That's a huge improvement! Those original wheels just weren't right. I think polished Americans would look great on anything, perfect choice!

They look awesome! Very nice work, I'm sure it will be a great seller!
-
Very nice build! I'm all about factory stock Mopars!
-
I like it! I also vote for red wheels! I forgot about the decals we talked about, I'll work on something in the next few days for ya.

whitch comes first

I've done it both ways, I kind of like the look of it when cleared. -
I started my own resin "company"

Glad ya like em, thanks again for lending me those parts! Those rear ends are pretty rough, casting in 1 piece was a mistake, but I already glued the master together, so in resin it definately requires some finish work. That'd why I haven't added it to the site, not pumped about the quality. -
1970 Challenger Convertible, Slant 6 Build
ian ashton replied to ian ashton's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Slowly but surely, slowly but surely! I ordered Keith Mark's decals for the '70 Challenger RT so I could use the window cranks, Challenger scripts, and gauges. They arrived yesterday and I couldn't wait to get back into this project. His work is so nice. So, a few pics of my nearly complete interior: Gauges and Challenger script on the dash (I decided to keep the RT dash, just because the gauge decals were so nice!) Window cranks: Seats in: Almost done, just need to put the shifter in: I'm hoping to get the first coat of paint on the body and hood today, hopefully progress will be much faster now that the holiday is over -
Ah I didn't even notice that! Funny, I have one old and one new style in my boat, they match decent enough, haha.
-
ScaleDreams.com also sells them in resin.

What are your Projects for 2011
ian ashton replied to Clay's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Once my Slant 6 Challenger is done I'm starting on converting a '71 Johan Cuda to a '70 convertible, then a Hang 10 Dart, then maybe a '68 GTX convertible, or possibly Johan Superbird. After that I'm not sure, maybe another '70 Cuda convertible. Also doing a '10 Mr Norms Challenger / Cuda convertible conversion in there somewhere. -
I like it. It really reminds me of the Carrera GT

Are you a "scale snob?"
ian ashton replied to ian ashton's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I guess the subject matter point plays into it a lot. I'm big on Mopars, and basically everything I'd want has been done or can be converted, mostly any variation of 70 & 71 e bodies, 68-70 b bodies. The "to build" list I have of just those is getting pretty long, haha. -
Looks like you are off to a nice start! Are you going to build factory stock, or more of a street machine?
-
I'm not sure why, but I refuse to build anything that's 1:24, I only want 1:25. Maybe it's because I want them all to be proportionate in the shelf, or maybe I'm just weird (clearly). I just feel like the 1:24 (mostly older RM kits) are too toyish or something. Does anyone else share my sickness?

My dad and I have run the Mopar Nats model car contest for the last 10 or so years, maybe more. Always a great show! Very nice build, what do you have planned for 2011?

Coming soon to the site is an 8 3/4 rear end, and dog dish hub caps. -

I'm glad you like 'em! If I can find a good source for 15's I'll make them, I don't think I'm good enough to scratch them yet. The steelies from the Revell '68 Charger kit are the exact same size as the steelies from the Lindberg kits. "style 1" is Lindberg, "style 2" is Revell, which are both 14". -
It's just an AMT '69 GTX convert with the GTX emblems sanded off. The hood is resin from eBay seller "lots-stuff-4-sale"

I still have to add a turn down at the end of the exhaust also, but being a small block the car would have been factory single exhaust It's definitely missing some small details, I'll add the radiator hoses and exhaust turn down at some point. Also gotta fix that tire

Very nice! You'll develop your skills over time, you seem to be ahead of the average 11 year old for sure! A great sidebar is that building models will build much more character than playing video games! Keep up the great work!

1970 Challenger Convertible, Slant 6 Build
ian ashton replied to ian ashton's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I finally got a good method worked out for casting the 8 3/4 rear end, so with my drum brake wheel backs, and some Scenes Unlimited internal drum hardware I will finally be able to wrap up the suspension. I am SO pumped about these parts from Scenes Unlimited, ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. -
Here's the start of your project

Looks great! My dad has this exact car, I also built the kit for him, looks just like yours!
