garbage truck
SpreadAxle replied to modeltrucker's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Click on the link, and you will see a B Model Mack garbage truck built by Frank Rich. He did a Paystar in the same colors as this truck. http://www.basketsbythebrowns.com/tcm/July%20Gal/july08gallery.htm -
I'm excited to see this kit return :-*. My absolute favorite 1:1 truck is the KW W900 Aerodyne with the original roofline of the Aerodyne sleeper. Available on the real thing until 1996/7. After that, the Aerodyne II was the only version available. If you're like me, the lack of an exterior sunvisor in this kit is disappointing. With the Snap Pete 359, the problem is easily cured by using the Revell of Germany visor, and sanding the mating surfaces between cab and visor down a little. Practically a perfect fit. Not so easy with the KW. This isn't really a how-to, just a comparison for reference. You will see 3 visors. The red one is from an AMT KW W925. The white one is by The Back Yard Shed, available from SourKraut's Model Truck Parts. The light grey one is from the 1/24 Revell of Germany Kenworth Dump Truck kit. The Snap KW cab you will see is silver. That is the original 1982 issue of the kit. I absolutely love the stripes in this kit. I just wish I could get them in differnt colors. The red and orange with the black outline does look nice though. First, I'll show a discovery. The Back Yard Shed visor is a resin copy of the Revell of Germany visor. 1/24 is the scale. Nothing wrong with that, as it saves buying a $50 kit for it. The size is the same, and they both have the 3 notches on the rear edges. Here they are for comparison. Now for the comparison between the AMT(red) and Back Yard Shed/Revell of Germany visor against the cab of the original Monogram 1/25 KW W900 Aerodyne snap kit. Top of visors: Bottom of visors: Here they are together: AMT visor: AMT again: BYS/ROG: The AMT visor is almost wide enough by itself. It looks like if it were widened, it would slip right into place. The BYS/ROG visor, is narrower. You may be asking, how is a 1/24 scale visor narrower than a 1/25?? The next pic will explain. You will see that the 1/24 scale cab has a notch in the corner where the visor would go. If the cab is notched, either might fit. It will be awhile b4 I build mine. I will experiment with both to see which fits best and looks nicest when the time comes. I hope this helps. I don't have a definate solution yet, but this gives some ideas, and lets you know what you'll be dealing with.

So the yellow Pete represents the last 359 built? Cool idea. I always wondered what it looked like. -

Outstanding work as usual, Tim. -
Beside the infamous Iowa 80 truckstop is the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum. The trucks on display are mostly from the Bill Moon collection. The late Bill Moon was the founder of the Iowa 80 truckstop. However, other collectors do display their trucks on loan to the museum. The trucks on display are periodically rotated. I have been to the museum twice this year. I know some of you may never get to see it, so I thought I would share the trucks with you. There is a theater, playing old truck documentary films, and a gift shop. Admission is free, but they do take donations. If you plan to go, it's in Walcott, IA. I 80, exit 284. It's just north of the truck entry/exit drive to the Iowa 80 TA truckstop. I hope you enjoy the pix. Click the link below the pix. 1922 White Model 15 Click here to see my album. http://s206.photobucket.com/albums/bb174/f...cking%20museum/

I think part of the mold's fate was hot temps. in the building where it was kept. During the strike, the clay model was left unattended and melted partially. At least, that's part of how I heard it. I had an article regarding this somewhere. I'll post when I find it. Here is a pic of the 2001 Mack garbage truck I hauled from Brooklyn, NY to Bay St Louis, Miss. I took lots of pix as promised. The compactor body is made by Heil. As soon as I get all the pix in the album, I'll post a link. In the pic, it's on my trailer. It just barely fit, too. -

Italeri dumper trailer
SpreadAxle replied to steven's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Regarding the Super Singles, more and more flatbed fleets are using them, too. However, they're still not trusted yet by many. The crash bars are a cool idea, but that adds weight. I would imagine that they are of a heavier construction. Most fleets would avoid installing them for fear of losing any hauling capacity in terms of weight, although the safety directors would love them. -
2010 ??? Kenworth Daylight Day Cab

Really? That's cool. I'll be keeping an eye out for that. I've been hoping someone would do the KW locks. -
Italeri dumper trailer

Not a stupid question at all. For those of us who build American trucks, it just means making the trailer appear more like what you would find on an American highway. This trailer is of European design. Although I think the dumpbox could be used and modfied with a different susp and framework to represent something you might see here in the States. It is a cool looking kit. I've been wanting to try my hand at a European truck, and I definately would use this trailer with it. -
Freightliner cab over

You're doing a damned fine job on this cab. I've wanted to build this version of the Freightshaker COE with the square headlights. Nice work -
Snap 359-in Progress

I knew I forgot something. Yes, I have a sleeper for the RevellAG 359. I have the silver one from the recent re-issue, but it's at home. Next time I get home, I'll send it your way. Pm me your address when you get a chance. The grille spars are strong enough. Thanks for the compliments everyone. The main color on this will be a dark metallic gray. JimB:I know you had an idea of doing a V8 detroit in a Snap Pete kit. Here's 2 pix you might like from an '84 daycab 359. -

I haven't done much of anything to this one in over a month. I'm trying to perfect my bodywork techniques. To review, I'm keeping it to a single air cleaner, just moved to the driver's side. Also, I filled in the tab holes on the cab and sleeper. I'm just happy to be in the primer stage with it. -
Very realistic.
