  1. I messed up somewhere because the tongue of the dolly doesn't line up with the hook on the rear of the lead trlr. Also, I have to play with the axles a little on the lead trailer. The front tires don't touch the ground when hooked up to the tractor. Thanks for all the compliments. Tim, the pix on your site were the inspiration for the camera angles. I'm working on a roadway display like you use, although it's smaller. I'll be glad to get it done.
  2. You guys would know the answer to this one probably. I thought of this thread when I remembered a project idea I wanted to tackle. Ok, here goes. I know the GMC General had a flattop sleeper that was around 60". It looks like the AMT kit sleeper stretched. I saw some mid-80s generals in the Truck paper for sale years ago that had one. Anyone know what year this was introduced? I was wondering if any Bisons would have had one, or if the Bison was gone by then? I've been looking, but am not having much luck. Last pix I saw of a General equipped with this sleeper was like 15 yrs ago. It's not the standup like the Smoky and the Bandit 2 truck, just the regular flattop.
  3. LOL. Believe it or not, I pulled a reefer for 8 years BEFORE going to flatbed work! I loved it, and miss it sometimes. However, I got tired of the games, the stress, and the overall garbage that reefer divers put up with. It may be more physical, but the people I have dealt with pulling flatbeds have almost always been nicer. The drivers are definately a more close-knit group. Good luck at Western if you go. You'll look good going down the road.
  4. Outstanding work, Les. You have a 1:1 Pete sitting outside for reference don't you. I like the engine wiring.
  5. Just playing with the camera. I really need to finish that pup trailer. The main thing I need to correct is ride height. Then, I can get back to the finishing touches.
  6. About time on that KW. My favorite truck in my favorite color. As to the Mack, great load for a dropdeck.
  7. The last post that includes pix shows my most recent progress.
  8. Now these should be helpful. In the '80s, it seems that AMT/ERTL/Matchbox made their instruction sheets in a way that they fit nicely in a 3 ring binder. Each has a nice line drawing of the truck's right side on the cover. So I scanned and cropped these pix. They should be actual size(in comparison to the plastic cab/hood/sleeper) Just print, and draw your stripe patterns. As far as the stripes shown in the pix, they are the kit stripes for each kit . They could be edited out. Here is the KW W925 The Midnight Express Pete 359 The AMT GMC General
  9. It looks strange as a daycab. I've seen a few . I do think it looks better with a van/reefer in tow.
  10. I stand corrected. I thought it was commercial only, but wasn't sure, that's why my response was as general as it was.
  11. I had to visit the link again. Thanks for sharing, Kurt. Did you have a favorite?
  12. It's not commercial only. But it is mostly what you will see here. Here's two of mine. You'll see 18 wheelers, heavy equipment, fire trucks, pickups, light commercial vehicles, vans, etc. A nice mix, but as for me, I usually build what you see in a truckstop parking lot. Of course, I'm a trucker myself. So go on, post what you have. Let's see those trucks, and welcome aboard.
  13. Very cool project. Good luck with it.
  14. It's been awhile since I've hauled this, but the shiny steel bars I used to carry were often drenched with motor oil to prevent rust in transit. It worked, and made a nice mess, too/ LOL
  15. Here are a few pages on hauling coils. Helpful since the Fruehauf flatbed kit comes with 3 coils. Not all coils are tarped, so it won't be inaccurate to display untarped coils in transit. But sometimes I am asked to tarp rusty coils, which is VERY IRRITATING!! > Anyhoo, here's "lesson 2", LOL.
  16. Due to the fact that I pulll a flatbed trailer, I was asked long ago to take pix of the loads I haul for reference by a member on this forum(I can't remember who). I've been doing so. Over time I will post them. I decided that since the AMT Fruehauf flatbed is being re-released, it might be a good idea to get started on this thread. I like to display my flatbeds loaded. This should give you some ideas. Here is the cargo securement chapter of the company manual for my carrier. We mainly haul building materials, but we haul machiery, steel, vehicles and other things. I'll start with the text. The text includes some terminology, and a list of tie down requirements. As I dig through my pix, I will post pix of loads I have pulled, so you get a sense of how it's done.
  17. I took a closer look. Nice ob on the brake details, and the opening doors.
  18. Outstanding work, Jerry. Very nice.
  19. Very nice builds Tim. You said the blue one is for Paccar Technology center. Is it a test unit of some sort? Anyway, nice job on both.
