  1. Great body work! Is the blue one from the Revell Victoria kit! Really nice work, all of it. Tim
  2. thanks, gents -- much appreciated! Tim
  3. It's got to be five years since I finished one, but this quarantine has given me the chance and the head space to get one that was almost done over the top... That 50 Olds Rocket kit is really good. Now to finish the others I have here, three are over the 80% mark! Just noticed...the hood does fit better; it must have slipped while I was shooting the pictures. Sure, I made mistakes that are readily evident up close, but they're all preventable by not losing track of the job and building to a finish from the beginning. Tim Ettenheim
  4. Here in Lower Manhattan, the streets are empty...whenever my wife and I step out for our daily walk, our first thought is "ah, Sunday morning"... but of course it isn't. Not quite tumbleweeds blowing down the streets yet, but as empty as I've seen the streets since 911. Tim
  5. No you're not...I must've had a Lindberg box in front of me when I typed that. It's the Monogram.
  6. Now, back to my 1) question: has anyone successfully ground off the back of the Lindberg 40 Ford kit grille to expose the ribs? Knowing the MCG part is out there is great, but I'd like that to be the fallback, not the primary solution. thanks! Tim
  7. D**n! Then I just bought the wrong one at NNL East this spring...my bad. I missed it. I'll put the Deluxe one up for trade here. Many thanks, Tim
  8. I'm building the Monogram 40 Ford Standard Coupe, and as usual, am preparing to open the grill to expose the radiator behind it. I'm looking for a replacement appropriate grill, with vertical ribs. I have the MCG detail kit, but that is for a Deluxe with the horizontal ribs in the PE part. 1) Has anyone here successfully ground off the back of the chromed part while keeping the ribs intact? I've had pretty good luck with other models. I do recognize that this will mean cutting out the support piece and building a support structure for the replacement grille. 2) Does anyone make a Standard grille? I usually want to make sure I have a spare before the attempt. thanks! Tim
  9. Before up-ending a container of any kind over wet paint, be sure to wipe it with a damp rag, else dust will fall off the bottom of the container right on to your model.
  10. Al, great job! Looks a lot shinier than any DS I've ever seen...but that's a compliment! Did you get the hydraulic lifter working? Tim
  11. which silver paint is that? Alclad? Great great build so far. Tim
  12. Gentlemen, many thanks -- I discovered a little bottle of Testors dark flat green, among the enamels I hardly ever use...and it's in good shape! Thanks Art! Tim
  13. thanks, guys. Sometimes it's so specific...and I don't see greens well, so asking was important. Appreciated. Tim
  14. I have Model Master acrylic 4736 interior green, 4849 RAF dark green, and 4729 Euro dark green -- will any of these be good for the engine block? I also have MCW intermediate green in lacquer. Turns out, nothing else even close! Any recommendations or suggestions gratefully solicited. I don't use cans except for non-body primer jobs or when a sealer is needed. Thanks! Tim
  15. I restore and repair vintage fountain pens...you can see them in my website, timsvintagepens.com . It's a nice counter to modeling, uses many of the same tools and skills but the result is more to an established result than a story I create and make real in a model. Tim
  16. Jim, I'm the NYC delegation to the TriState club Tom invited you to a few posts up...what part of town are you in? Tim
  17. on the dust -- if you're going to have a venting system for airbrushing, you could do a larger system for the dust and suck it out as well as possible. However, I can't imagine having a sufficiently dust-free environment to airbrush in there. 10x10 is probably too small for both hobbies, if storage is in there as well. I'm in 12x12, with my other hobby (i repair and restore vintage fountain pens) sharing the workbench, lighting, and many of the tools and solvents, and there's enough room because I only have 23 unbuilt kits. Some of my shelving is almost to the ceiling, and every available under counter space is used as well. There is also a desk and working setup, computer and television. But, the pens don't take up a lot of space. Fitting woodworking into 44 less sq ft seems a bit daunting. I'd go larger if you can.

Really nice build. I'm getting ready to start it myself -- any thoughts, suggestions about snags/problems you encountered? I'm considering removing the plastic piece behind the grill and adding a MCG grill. Figure I'll build a support from brass, would appreciate any thoughts you have on that. Many thanks in advance. Tim
  19. Brother Al, It looks great! Bring it next week? Tim
  20. Brother Al, looks nice! A lot nicer than the 66 I see in my 'hood periodically... Tim
  21. great work -- does Maskol work better than Micro Mask? Is it a different material? thanks another Tim
