'54 Chevoldsmollac custom...mystery frame, Aug.26
BKcustoms replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Interesting, I can't wait to see how this turns out! -
Start at the base of the flames and work towards the top, the base should have more color than the tips since it would be the hottest part.

lifted chevy !

Wow! You've made some serious progress on this since the last time I saw it! Will you be bringing it to the show in May? -
I like the idea of the Cannonball 2000 since we haven't done a modern one yet but I also like the Euro theme, that could turn out pretty interesting also.
-
I think that helped the lines a lot, The only thing I'd suggest is maybe rounding peak above the headlights just a little bit like the picture of the black merc you posted so it follows the curve of the hood a little better. Either way I like where this is going and I can't wait to see the end result!

Thanks guys! Bill, I'll be bringing both of these along with my merc speedster in May. The motor is now done, pics this weekend. (school decided to block photobucket so I can only upload pics when I'm at my dad's house)

Pro Touring/ Low Rod Cadillac updated 1/27/13
BKcustoms replied to BKcustoms's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I've been working on it slowly, it's taking a while since I'm scratchbuilding almost everything except the body and engine. Right now I'm trying to figure out the best way to make the floor and engine bay, I'll have an update sometime in the near future. -
Looks good, How about flat black with a testors lime ice lacquer roof?
-
Thanks for the comments guys, I appreciate it. I started work on the rear suspension and chassis. This was my first attempt at making an airride setup, it's not perfect but I think it'll look fine once it's painted and detailed. the bars are brass tube I had laying around with dirtmodeler rod ends and suspension brackets and the bags are "machined" from scrap plastic on my dremel. I still need to add the link from the top of the axle to the frame that keeps the axle centered but the floor needs to be notched before it'll fit so I'm waiting to do that. I also started to cut down a set of GTO seats. Let me know what you think! Billy

Nascar Craftsman Trucks - Eldora Speedway on DIRT 20132
BKcustoms replied to hooterville75's topic in WIP: NASCAR
Same here, I have very little interest in NASCAR, but I'm a huge fan of dirt cars. (probably because my dad's house is like 5 minutes away from the local dirt track lol) -
Awesome work guys! Well I am sad to say I will have to withdraw from the race due to some paint flaking off the body. The polishing cloth caught an edge while polishing and chipped it quite badly and I want to do it right so it will get a repaint instead of just touched up. It will get finished soon, just not in the next day.

Good idea I had not even thought about a name yet. I'm not sure what to do with the headlights and grill yet, I'm thinking about 53 corvette ones and a 60 corvette grill or maybe Porsche style headlights angled back at the top with a stock grill.

I did some painting last night on the Impala I'll have pics this weekend, I think I'll be able to make it to the starting line...

Well I finally got around to putting an SBC in my 1:1 Regal, I started many builds and only finished a few (no surprise there lol), went to a few contests where I got to meet a couple of MCM members, and I won my class in 2 of the contests. It's been a good last year ever lol!

Chopped '50 Olds fastback: Jus' a lil' closer...Oct.1
BKcustoms replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
This is turning out really nice! Your cuts are much cleaner than mine were lol. I can't wait to see the chop, it seems like it would be difficult to chop a fastback and keep the flow of the lines intact but I'm sure you'll pull it off perfectly. -
Hmm, I like the idea of blue. Maybe something like GM Jetstream Blue with a modern dark gray interior.
-
Lookin good, I never would've thought an Impala rear would look so good on a Merc but it definitely does! What's the plan for the running gear? I think a modern powerplant of some kind would be right at home in this.

attaching resin scoop to styrene hood?
BKcustoms replied to tjones87's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Super glue or 2 part epoxy will work, just make sure to scuff the bonding area if you use epoxy so it sticks better. -
Thanks guys! John, originally I was going to do a bare aluminum finish kinda like an old airplane but after looking at it more I think it needs to have an actual paint color. I want something that isn't too common but I'm not sure what. Any suggestions?
-
Thanks for the compliment John, I really appreciate it! Erik, I've been following your merc from the start and it is part of what gave me the push to try out so many new things on this. And I have a plan in mind to make the wheels fit the car a little better, I just need to do some photoshops to see if it'll look right..

I had a day off school a few years back and for whatever reason I ended up going to work with my dad that day (He does body and paint work for a restoration/hot rod shop) and after hanging around and learning the trade I've been hired full time during the summer and part time during the school year working there. I guess you could say I kinda "fell" into getting my dream job since it pretty much happened by chance.
-
You're doing an awesome job on this! I really like the color and the wood looks great.
-
Thanks Bill! this is the first build where I've just made it up as I went and I'm having a ton of fun with it. I managed to get the rear wheel openings roughed in, I cut both of them out with 1/4 inch of plastic behind them and then just swapped the left for the right and right for left to end up with both sides moved back 1/4 inch.

Mickey Thompson's Challenger One. Still alive, Feb. 8
BKcustoms replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That looks great without the scoops, The lines flow so much better now.
