Randall, Nice Nova! I really like that paint job. Doc, I think I figured out the reason for the spatter, The white I was using was DuPont Toner that didnt have any balancer or binder in it and that was the only color that was causing spatter. the blue was having no problems at all and the only difference is it did have balancer and binder in it since it was a factory color that I mixed at work.

I like the idea of a 502, I might try to convert one of the big blocks I have laying around to resemble a 502.

Snowball 2 has landed made it safely to Missouri! I have decided to tackle the engine for our project, i 'm thinking a 69 corvette 427 or maybe a 454. Would anyone object to using blue as the engine accent color? Heres Snowball as I received it. (sorry for the dark pics my camera was having trouble adjusting to the light for some reason)

Snap On airbrush problems
BKcustoms replied to BKcustoms's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks guys, I will see if the seal on the valve is loose and if I cant figure it out I will talk to the Snap On dealer that comes by work on friday and see what he says. -
My dad got me a Snap On BF105 (Badger 105) dual action airbrush for my birthday in October and it has worked flawlessly up until last weekend when the air valve on the airbrush stopped working several times. What I'm wondering is if it is an easy fix that I just don't know about? I really don't want to send it in for repairs since I use it alot but if i have to I will.

Can you sand out dust in candy paint
BKcustoms replied to hotrod59f100's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I haven't tried it but I've heard as long as you sand very lightly with high grit paper and sand the entire body evenly you should be fine. -

Tanks a bunch guys! James, I use a Snap On BF105 gravity feed airbrush. I believe it is the same thing as a Badger 105. I posted a tutorial in the tips/tricks section http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=59272&pid=708304&st=0&#entry708304 -
This is by no means the only way of painting realistic flames, but I've found that it can be done very quickly with this technique. First the body was sprayed in its main color, DuPont Tectic Gray pearl basecoat. Now it's time to spray white using a flame stencil everywhere you want the flames. Now spray a transparent color (I used over reduced Intense Blue) over the white areas. Next use the flame stencil to highlight the curves of the flames with some more white. After adding the highlights spray another light coat of color over the flames. Next add one more round of highlights to pick out a couple more curves. Now spray an extremely light coat of color over the flames one more time and you're done! Thanks for looking! Feel free to ask any questions you may have. Billy

I've been wanting to test out my airbrush for something a little more precise than painting entire bodies and I finally decided to try some colored Real Fire on a NASCAR body I was working on. I drew out a rough idea of where I wanted the flames in white basecoat using a homemade stencil and then shot a coat of over reduced (for transparency) Laser red and Intense blue over the white areas. then I went through and added highlights and more color over and over until I had the depth I wanted. I can do a step by step tutorial if anyone would be interested. Let me know what you think! Billy

Update! I decided to remove the skirts because they seemed to interrupt the "flow" of the car's lines, and I have started started to modify the chassis to accept the wheels/tires and flathead from a Revell 48 ford custom kit. the grill is also from the 48 ford. thanks for looking! all comments and suggestions welcome. Billy

Wow! that front end turned out fantastic! Now I need to figure out what piece of the build to tackle, I had originally wanted to paint it but it seems to early for that so maybe I'll do some suspension work...

Thanks! I'm still trying to figure out what taillights to use, I'm kinda leaning towards the stock 57 chevy ones but I kinda want something a little more custom so i might end up scratchbuilding some.

Chevy paint color help.
BKcustoms replied to Austin T's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If you go to an auto parts store they might have a dupli color spray can of it, or if you have an airbrush you could go to an automotive paint store and have them mix the exact color you need. -
I havent personally used it, but the pack at my LHS looked really reflective and shiny kind of like a darker version of chrome. I would suggest using a black sharpie marker or a testors paint marker for black window trim, both methods have worked well for me in the past.

I was cleaning my workbench a few days ago and came across a Revell 49 Mercury that had been shelved because of paint issues and an old Monogram 57 chevy body that had been heavily damaged when I accidentally dropped it while trying to put BMF on it. After a while I started thinking I haven't seen many finned Mercurys and after some cutting and sanding I ended up with this..... plans are flathead power, whitewalls, and some kind of fade paint job. Let me know what you think! all comments/suggestions welcome. Billy

Nice build, I like the way you did the 2 tone with the chrome to separate colors.

Great progress! I believe the name came from it being a GM f-body, not because of the "F" word though

If you scroll down to the very bottom of the screen on a smart phone there will be a "full version" icon that will let you view the forum in the regular computer format instead of the annoying smartphone version. -
