Model Cars Magazine #154
RickRollerLT1 replied to TOYCARTEC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Still didn't get it yet... When does everybody usally get theirs? -
Oh I forgot, I heard Simple Green sometimes works and soemtimes dosen't... I think it only takes off certan types of paint and might leave a residue thats really hard to get off. Yeah it's safer, but I never tried it and I don't know how long it takes to remove paint

DOT-3 brake fluid will take it off in a flash! The Testors Lacquers are almost like the enamals in terms of softness (not in quality, as the lacquers are much better if you have a LIGHT TOTCH and a good base coat), so if it takes off the enamals, it should take of the lacquers. As you probably know, Brake fluid is VERY DANGERIOUS to to work with; so take extreme caution and were eye and hand protection, and use it outside. One more thing for the lacquers, If you apply it over a bare unprimed body, you might get problems (Like BUBBLES, CRAZING, and who knows what)). So I reccomend primeing your body with your best brand of primer that ya use, followed by your base color coat so the final color has something to bite onto and so it dosen't bleed through, and then attack it with the Lacquers color of your choice! Hope this helps...

Forgot to mention this kit was AMT, but I figured everyone remembered the rides name amt kits used to carry. Yeah, I know they screwed up even more by calling it "Woodie" rather than "Panel van"... though the whole thing had itty and bland lowridur wheels and they molded in the wheel wells on ALL the fenders, making it look like a land spped car rather than a lowrider (on mine anyways,)
-
This is the "Rides" kit which was a major disaster (though not as bad as the lindberger coupe). I kept the headlights, but opened up the wheel wells because they were all molded in; and I made them wider so they would accumulate larger rollers i'd be putting on anyway. Added the "slammin' hammer" decals from the revell-o-gram '41 Chevy pick-up, some stripe decals on the fenders from a GTO street machine kit, and the "Ford deluxe" lettering form the Lindberger kit. I shoehorned a HEMI in the bay' (was kinda a tight squeze) and used dual exhaust, I added an El camino suspension up front and a Mustang in the rear... Wheels are X-mods on the custom tires form the '86 Monte Carlo Interior had the kits custom 'Stang seats and dashbord. I did a 2-tone paint being the boby & fenders are seprate pieces; the top is Testors Star-spangled blue and the bottom is dutch boy sliver polished into a stardust aluminum metalic... Both are toped with future and lightly buffed. Enjoy!

Thatz lookin real cool stew! Saw it on the other fourm in it's WIP stage, so when I just saw this, I regnized this was the one you had a while back. Again, nice one brotha!!!
-
That... Looks.... AWESOME!!!! Like it alot! It's pro-touring, street car, wicked custom, hi-po, cool and badaz!!!

isn't there a new issue of the '63 Impy that just came out a few days ago? Because if your kit (if it's the revell one) is missing some important parts, you could pick it up or track down the donks issues for even cheaper.
-
The most recent issue is the "Rides" '40 Ford woody (miss-named, it really the panel van), which has a Pontaic 421 that looks like it was based off of the flathead. I'd would've parted it out with ya'll, but I gave it away with a whole buncha other parts at last months meeting... maybe someone else has one thats sitting in there parts boxes.

Next is the '32 ford Phantom Vicky. 2nd OOB build from an amt kit. Of course the windsheld wasa PAIN as it was warped and torqued to da bone!! Also left out the top because that was warped too and had a crack in it... same went for the hood but that had a huge piece that wasn't filled in!! Paint is colorplace (Wal-mart) green, polished and toped with future. The nicest part of thw kit is the DOHC 'Stanger motor; lightly customzied with an air intake and a wonky exhaust system: [Forgot to mention the paint on the '37 pick up is Testors Purplelishous Lacquer with future on top, hee, hee]
-
Hey guys, sorry if I haven't been around with builds as much lately... Was busy workin' on these little ol gremlems. The '37 Ford Pick Up is the Revell kit, customized to my likeing. As the pic says, it has a C6 suspension up front and what believes to be a Monte carlo rear in the back. Of course it has disc brakes all around on cool low-pro tires/wheels. It sports the kits optional dual exhaust system that the Carbed chevy LT1 (which you'll see in the pics) fumes exit through. Finaly the motor!

Had it a month ago (really sucked), but suprisingly it went away in a few hours (after lotsa pukin') Sorry to hear about your problems Longbox... wish you and your faimly members/relitives the best!!

sjordan, what I ment buy the lady being kind was that she was really helpfull and nice... Not like the time my dad called nintendo customer service around dec '09, and they kept telling him that the system is broken if the (wii sports) disc dosen't work. He was REALLY mad at them because even we figured out it was the disc not the system (we tried GC games and New SMB wii, and they worked), but they kept saying the unit was falty and it would take alomst a month to replace (eventuly he spoke to another person and everything worked out). Anyways, didn't get me mag yet; suspect it the krazy weather we've been havin'! Hopefully it comes by the next week or so... -

I got one of the free subscriptions thingies when I won at the L.I.A.R.S show back in November... Mailed it out 6 days later though I would be getting it, but then found out the month issues are totaly out of order. Called GBP (the MCM service number) and they said I would start out with the November issue (which comes out around mid-late january). ...well, it's february. WERE'S MAH MAG!! So then I called them yesterday, and they said it's been mailed out last week... The kind lady on the phone said "You should be getting it by the end of this week". If it dosen't arrive, the good news is they will send out another on if I call them. Lets hope of the best... -

Paint Strippers - What to Use?
RickRollerLT1 replied to pbj59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I heard this stuff works wonders with stripping paint and chrome. How long does it take to work? and does it remove all paints or certan ones? -
From my experirnce I allways use a primer (mainly sears "quick 'n easy" gray primer (I don't sand because the primer is so smooth and easy to work with) beacuse the Krylon WILL craze or sometimes, melt the plastic. I find using the sears primer, then the wal-mart paint, then the krylon works the best(it sticks better and is smother by doing this). One more thing... DO NOT use any form of Krylon clear (standard of crystal clear), because I tried it once and it went through the paint on a spare kit body, and it crazed the whole thing!! (waited almost a week and the paint was super dry) I highly reccomend useing future as a clear coat because you can apply it any way and if you get runs, the more coats you apply may hide it. However, if you apply it too early (depending on the paint and how long it takes to dry) it will form "Spider cracks"... I reccomend waiting about 3 days to 2 weeks (again depending on the paint and it's drying times).

Those are what came with the kits. And the "Drooping" wipers I believe are I've seen on some 1:1s (it's what was shown on the box, I don't think it came with other windsheld wiper options) Glad u like it!!

Group shots with my '37 sedan you've probably seen:

Ah well, I'll make a new post in the 'Glass section... But should I lock this one or delete it?
-
It's all done!! Just need to get the pics up. One question, Can I move this topic to the "Under Glass" section once I get the finished pics up? Or is that the moderators job?

DOT-3 Brake Fluid should work if you give it about 2 days to a week to totaly soften the paint into butter.
