Hey the challenge is still on. Toledo I put the 32 on the table and you put the 37 on the table. Last night I spent a bunch of time recessing one of the front 4 bar brackets into the frame and now I have to do the other side.

Most likely yes as one mod begets another and another......wonder why it take so long to finish anything

Got some work done on the new center section (K-member) of the frame. This will make painting and detailing the frame and underside of the body much easier. I used evergreen rod in the 2mm size to represent 2" tubing. To install the the upper center section pieces I drilled completely thru the frame in 4 places (in the first picture you can see the exit points). This allows for very strong glue joints especially since I'm was going from styrene to resin. The lower points were drilled half way thru in order to give a positive lock to the tubes. Where ever the tubes came together I used a file to give a fishmouth cut for a stronger joint. The trans mount is bolt in for easier installation of the engine and cause I thought that it looked cool. The whole assembly still need to be puttied and sanded but that is for another night.

A quick update. I started to work on the new x-member for the chassis last night. But then it was time to make dinner andlong storu short I cut off the tip of my thumb. Not much just a dime size chuck of so and you know what it wouldn't stop bleeding. Therefore seeing as how the whole opposable thumb thing makes it easier to model work has ground to a halt. But I did decide on a color combo (disclaimer color selection is subject to change, sorry no refunds), dark burnt orange with a brown interior. So while i heal i will look for just the right shade of orange.

Yep it's 1/25 based on the Revell kit. Maybe it is the angle of the picture that is making it look different

Who Makes Good Prechopped Deuce Bodies?
Taxdude replied to oldscool's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
For a 32- 3 window body try Replica and Miniatures Company of Maryland. His 3 window with PE windshield frame is very nice. -
I wish that I could tell you but all that I remember is that it was a duplicolor spray, i do remember that it was a ford color, decanted and airbrushed.

For the intake i was going for the look of an intake that might have been sold by a small speed shop advertising in the back of a early rod magazine. Needless to say the intake and the air cleaner were both scratch built. On the intake the hardest part was getting all 8 of the intake runners to line-up correctly on the plenum.

No it's a Ardun head conversion for the flathead.

The wheels were machined but Bob Dudek, pictures don't do them justice

This is my 53 Ford pick-up. It is the first model that i had finished in quite a while. I guess that I'll have to change my signature now.

OK so as a new years resolution for 2009 (yes last years resolution, but i'm as of right now still within the time parameters by a bit more than 6 hours) I set a goal of working on a relegated project. This is my 32 Hi-boy project that was started long ago and then put away and worked on a bit again and put away....etc. So I have pulled it out again and this time it will be completed before another project gets started. Originally it was going to be a fairly straight from the box build but that was soon abandoned. The body is from RMCoM as it had the Duvall windshield that i wanted. I have added a rolled pan to the rear of the body but otherwise it is as it came. The big changes have to do with the frame, suspension and engine. The frame that came with the body is the cleaned up version that RMCoM provides and it is very nice. And I started to use that. I did some additional work to get the interface between the rear of the frame and the kit wheel wells to line up. But if you have ever built the 32 you know that the floorboards that are incorporated with the chassis has this weird stop near the end of the transmission tunnel. So first order was to extend the tunnel and gap the floor boards to match. And this worked but it bugged me still. So i decide to separate the main section of the floorboards from the frame. This will allow for several improvements. I will now be able to built a custom K-member for the frame and it will also allow easier mounting of the suspension, engine and exhaust It will also make it easier to paint and detail. Speaking of the suspension it is going to be a completly scratchbuilt four-bar front and rear. Do you know how many heim joints you need to do a full 4-bar suspension, lots and when built up it will look like this. and here is the front axle. The Aluminum pieces on this build come from the very talented Bob Dudek, thanks Bob. The engine is the base kit block and heads but it will sport 4 Weber carbs and custom air cleaners. The headers have been shortened to keep them from hanging down under the frame and it will also have all of the pulleys scratch built. There are still a bunch of details to work out before the final mock-up build gets started. Once I like the way the mock-up looks I'll blow it apart and start painting and gluing. Color wise I haven't yet decided which way to go but ideas right now are: Midnight Blue/deep cinnamon red interior Burnt Orange/black interior Deep Maroon/brown interior I don't build quickly but updates will follow. Pat that is some great news. Now on to bigger and better news in two-naught-one-naught or however you Canadians say it.

I had a great time as always and a big thanks to everyone that works so hard to put this on for us. I have to say that I really liked the new venue. The combination of the NNL and the toy show in the same room made it much more enjoyable. Fred

1940's hotrod 1929 Ford Roadster ****UPDATED 7-18-09!****
Taxdude replied to Dennis Lacy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Ah i see your point and i guess that i wasn't clear. What I meant was a simplified straighter exhaust with Smitty mufflers, 20-22" mounted closer to the engine. Fred -

Dennis, Your build is very cool and i really like the way that you are laying out the build in steps. The only suggestion that I have is that your exhaust is to modern for the era. I think straight pipes would be more period correct, but that is just me. Fred Stuck in my recliner with a blown-up knee, I'm so bored -
Since F-1 are popping up all over i thought that I would share an older build of my F-1. The grill is made from Aluminum tubing. I made a buck in order to get all of the bars to bend the same amount. The Body has been cleaned up and the hood to cowl issue has been addressed. The chassis was sub-framed in order to get the front end down. In the bed I had to make small wheel tubs in order to get the tires to fit. I also use very thin maple planking for the bed. And the interior before it was buttoned up. The seat is a cut down unit from some pick-up kit, can't remember which one. The dash was smoothed and new gauges were installed. The engine is a GM crate motor cleaned up and installed Some in progress shot can be seen here. http://public.fotki.com/Wojodamus/50_ford_...0_ford_pick-up/ Fred

I did manage to get a better fit on the hood but it took adding strip plastic to the trailing edge and bottom edge. I also had to work on the cowl area. Here you can see where the plastic was added. It was a lot of sanding and fitting to get it right.

You hack.....I thought you were all about the low tech...you know making your own decals using only crayons (and not the box of 64 mine you) and paper towel.
-
Padded bomber seats...what are you building this ratrod for an old man?
-
Hadn't thought about that maybe a deep red stripe but it would have to be very thin. So how do you make an uber-thin stripe, 1/64 or so? Anyone?

OK it's been a while since I have finished anything and so I decided to pull out an older project to see if I could just get something done. So out of projectland comes the Willy's Hauler. Color wise I think that I leaning toward a two-tone Dark Graphite over Yellow that would run for both the hauler and the streamline go-cart. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
