GAZ... Yeah, that's just about what the sound I made when I first saw the photo sounded like. Is that "VOLGA" or "VULGAR"? Let's just leave it that I won't be "Russian" out to buy one any time soon...

The Cars of Rock 'n' Roll and Country Music

Nick, it's gorgeous so far. But then, I've come to expect that from your builds. I like my hot rods nice and shiny. -
Real or Model #202 FINISHED!
CorvairJim replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Something about it says that it's thge real thing, specifically posed for a Goodyear advertisement. Check out the tires: the way the lettering on the tires is lined up and the complete lack of wear on the treads. Those tires look just too good to be a model to me. Besides, most modelers would have a number and driver's name on the car. -
Decided you wanted ths one to be faster, huh? The first one looks good, but the new one can't help but be better with CORVAIR POWER! Seriously, it speaks well for any kit to have someone want to buiild a second one so soon after completing the first. I like the retro vibe the whitewalls give it.

I agree with both the locomotive/cow catcher and "Cruella DeVille" analogies. Here's my thought on it's looks: They say that an Edsel looked like "an Oldsmobile sucking a lemon"... Take a good look at the grille - Could it also be said that the front end of this car looks like a 30's-era BMW sucking a lemon?

I knew the Saab that you posted right off when I first saw it this afternoon, but the public computer I was on kept timing out when I tried to respond. I was really surprised to log on this evening to find a DIFFERENT Mystery car posted! That's OK though, since I knew what this one was right away too!

One very different ebay auction listing

My guess would be "Mint Green"... -
Looks awful... awful good! I think it may need a little more (Joe) dirt on the windshield, though...

Revell/GearZ contest prizes
CorvairJim replied to dimebolt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
HOLY SWAG, BATMAN! One word: WOW!!! Congratuations, Casey. I am SO there next year! I know I don't have a chance, since my skills aren't nearly of the caliber that I see shown by many of the guys on this website and others, but the only way to know for certain that I WON'T win is not to enter. I need to find out the particulars of the contest and get cracking. It takes me too long to get a model finished... -

Army: We want 100,000 more just like it

"EPIC FAIL!!!" -
Have I got a bunch of new tools that I'd want to put into production... and I bet you can guess what they are! "Early Model" (1960-64) Corvair Club Coupe, with a convertible option (1964 Monza Spyder shown): 1961-62 Corvair Station Wagon (1961 700-Series "Lakewood" shown): 1961-65 Corvair Greenbrier Sport Wagon (1965 model shown): "Late Model" (1965-69) Corvair Sport Coupe, with a convertible option (My own former 1966 Monza shown): And finally, one for those of us who are diehard "Longroof" fans, a 1969 Chevy Kingswood Estate: I also like suggestions #3, 4 (with the Monte Carlo too!), and 6 above, in addition to the Laguna Type S-3 and the Mirada (I'd also like to see an earlier Cordoba)

I have the Caravan kit, but I could never figure out why the heck I bought the thing! THIS is the reason! I'm inspired now to do something along the same lines, but crossbreeding it with a Viper - keeping it all American. As much as others seem to have liked your Photoshopped sliced and diced version with it's sleeker nose, I think using the body full-height is the way to go on this. Otherwise, it comes off too much as a GTO "Bread Van" for the new millenium. This way it's clear what it's roots are.

I knew I had seen it before and I was pretty certain it was German. I couldn't remember the manufacturer. And I STILL think it looks better than the Airflow... Now check out their sleek Trumpf model from the same era. Nice job, Harry.

I like how a "nothing", cheapo kit that you don't think you'll ever do anything with can turn into something so great!
-
I just need to spend less time on line talking about models, etc. and more time in my workroom BUILDING them!
-
Clearly inspired by (and a bunch better looking than) the Chrysler/Imperial/DeSoto Airflows from the 1930's. I'll have to do a bit of research this evening and get back to you on it.

What a great Nova! As you can probably tell from my photo to the left of this post, I'm partial to Lemonwood Yellow on 1966 Chevys. Where did you find such a close match? I'd like to get my hands on some so that I can replicate the car in the photo, the best Corvair I ever owned.

Sweet! You pretty much nailed the 1966 Madeira Maroon paint. I noticed you couldn't resist upgrading your old ride to the 140 horse engine from the 110 you say the 1:1 car had. While my first car wasn't a Corvair, I did build my first Corvair within the past year. I restored a badly damaged 1965 Corsa coupe annual into the '65 Monza 110 that got me started on the path to total Corvair addiction! Here's a link to it's "Under Glass" thread if you're interested: http://www.modelcars...=+1965 +corvair

One other thing I noticed: What good is a bumper jack without bumpers?

This is the first that I've heard about your loss. My thoughts and prayers go out for you. As others have mentioned, I too have grown kids along with 6 grandchildren, and I cannot begin to imagine the horrible feelings you must have at this moment. All I can say is to open your heart to God, let Him have your hurt and pain. Please know that you have plenty of friends here on HobbyTalk who are here for you any time you need us. God Bless you, my friend, in your time of loss and sorrow. -
The Del Ray looks like a great project. having seen what you did with your dad's '59, I have no doubts that the '58 will turn out at least as well. As it is, you just showed me pics of two of my favorite years of full-size Chevy. Love 'em both! Here'a my '58 Chevy story: My dad had a turquoise over white over turquoise 348/Turboglide '58 Bel Air Sport Sedan (4-door pillarless hardtop) when he and my mom were first married. My mom was used to driving the straight-6/3-on-the-tree '57 Chevy 150 4-door sedan that she co-owned with her mother. That car was actually more powerful than any car that she had owned up to that point, having had a pair of Willys Jeep station wagons while she was serving in the Women's Army Corps band in the early 50's. According to my dad, when she tried to drive the Bel Air, she couldn't get it off the line without leaving twin lines of rubber at least 20' long! After a couple of months of this, he traded his baby in on a brand-spanking-new-for 1960 Corvair 700-Series sedan... And no, that's NOT where my love of Corvairs came from. Turns out they both disliked the car and traded it in on a '62 Biscayne 2-door sedan before I was born!

Great color, the stance is right, the wheels are perfect for it. I have a few of these Pro Modeler 57's that I got for cheap when Toys R Us got out of models the first time around... I gotta build one of 'em some day!

Sunny Side Classic (Revell 56 Del Ray)--How Do You Want Your Eggs?
CorvairJim replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Model Cars
Crazy Jim? CORVAIR JIM loves this! Now all you need is a scrapple sandwich to serve with your fried egg!
