I'm with Kenny on this one. It's hard to miss the masterful work of Gerald Wingrove. But I also have to disagree with Tim - I think it looks perfect!

Well, my Sport Suburban is still in the shop, so I guess I'm out of it for this year. Hopefully, I'll be able to get my act together for next year's event. I might still make the starting line for the "Gumball rally" CBP, though...

I'm a frustrated singer. I love to sing at church, and people ask me regularly why I'm not in the choir (I work evenings, so I can't make it to rehearsals on Thursday night). Whenever I can, I like to sing karaoke, everything from hard classic rock ("Born To Be Wild), to the oldies (anything by Roy Orbison), and I like to challenge myself with the hard ones - Things like "Kara Mia", "The Wicked Game", and "Tuesday Afternoon". I once sang the National Anthem at a minor-league baseball game.

My first 'almost' new car was a 12,000-mile 5-speed '89 Beretta GT bought in September of 1990. I had a lot of fun with that car, lots of great memories. It gave me a decade of good service. I have 2 original kits and I'll be building a replica of my car some day... when I get around to it! Mine had the standard steel wheels, so I'll have to fudge it a little bit since the kit didn't come with them.

Amen and hallelujah, brother! I have a Victory Red 2006 Cobalt SS coupe, my first and only brand-new car, and would love to be able to build a model of it.

The Cars of Rock 'n' Roll and Country Music
CorvairJim replied to CorvairJim's topic in Community Builds
Just let me know when you're ready to pull the trigger, Rob, and I'll add your new one to the list. -
After a while and a couple dozen models listed, I guess it just got hard for me to keep track of all of them!
-
The '50 Olds has just gone from "well, maybe some day" to "Gotta get it!" I hadn't thought about this transformation, but I've always liked the 40's-50's GM fastbacks. I'll be following this one!

The Cars of Rock 'n' Roll and Country Music

She's a beauty, Nick! I'm glad to see that this CBP hasn't been forgotten. One I get a couple of my other CBP commitments finished, I plan to do up some more for this'n too. -
That "Litle Deuce Coupe" could have been entered in the "Cars Of Rock 'n' Roll" CBP too. It came out beautifully! (Oh, that's right - you DID have it there too! Oops... My bad!)

Real or Model #205 FINISHED!
CorvairJim replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I'm going with REAL too, athough I think it'll really look better once they get a shiny coat of color over the bare primer. Show it to us again once it's finished! -
I'd like to know where he found the kahunas to help him out... My guess would be Hawaii, since that's where all the big Kahunas seem to hang out. Whatever the case and wherever they came from, they must have pretty big cojones to try that work this late in the game!

I decided to just ride it out with the "New & Improved" Photobucket since, as Harry said, we probably won't have the option for long anyhow. Oh, and I DO know what the mystery minivan is. I think it's pretty good looking... for a minivan!
-
I'll take the Tucker, the Packard, and that flat-out beautiful Lagonda!
-
I haven't had time to do ANY work on my Plymouth over the past few months... or any other model, for that matter. I wish my chassis were at this point. It's getting down to crunch time and I have two transcontinental race CBP's to finish builds for!

Well, I have to agree with everything, up to a point... George W. was certainly a brighter bulb than a couple of other recent occupants of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue that I could mention, except that I'd probably get warned about it!! (On the other hand, If George W. can be mentioned without sanction, I don't see why it should make any difference if I mentioned William J. or Barack H. by name... )

New 1:1 Hot Wheels Camaro
CorvairJim replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's like everything else in life: It's worth exactly what it's worth to you. If the dealer won't sell it to you at the price you offer, don't buy it. Someone else will. Limited collector's edition cars always bring the customers running, and many of these cars will end up stashed in climate-controlled garages under car covers, never to be really enjoyed by their owners, waiting for their price to skyrocket in the collector's market in a couple of decades. Well, we all know what comes of that, what with 1976 Eldorado convertibles, 1978 Indy Pace Car and 1989 ZR-1 Corvettes! -
Simply gorgeous... but somebody shaved your "Fuzzy Dice" - They aren't fuzzy anymore!

I agree completely with both parts of the above quote. I think I would have tried to take the stripe back to the trailing edge of the quarter window, the same way Dodge did on the original coupe. Still, it's a great looking wagon... Gotta love a fast longroof! (Kinda reminds me of the 12-second, daily-driven, '73 Chevelle Laguna wagon I used to own!)

Real or Model #204 FINISHED!
CorvairJim replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Gotta love a vintage Ferrari! Model or 1:1, they're usually among the best-looking cars in the neighborhood... OK, not GENERALLY AMONG them! An early 60's 250 GT SWB is naturally no exception. I say this is the real deal, but I've been wrong before. I guess we'll find out on riday! -
Name those plates!
CorvairJim replied to jcbigpaw's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
More on Jim Rockford's plate, 853 OKG: The numbers "853" refer to the date of his first credited film (August of 1953), the letters "OK" refer to his home state of Oklahoma and the "G", well, that's his last initial! -
Youthfullness

Age is only a number... and I have a granddaughter who's getting w-a-y too close to 16! -
Phantom 70 Challenger T/A Wagon..FINISHED
CorvairJim replied to Space Cowboy's topic in WIP: Model Cars
This is what the 2000's Dodge Magnum would have looked like back in the 70's. -
Holy cripes! Those rear steelies are awesome! They just convey the entire no-nonsense attitude of the car. One question: How do you propose to get a pry bar in there to pop those hubcaps off when the time comes to change the tires??? Just blowin' smoke - the model is FANTASTIC!

Real or Model #203 FINISHED!
CorvairJim replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
A couple of good points have been made, like the quality of the color photography. For me, it's the perspective of the photo, it just looks off, like the car is raised above the level of the others. It also appears to scale out just a tad bit smaller than the others to me. Also, if the shot does date to the mid-50's, when the Futura was on the car show circuit, wouldn't it have been surrounded by other dream cars of the era and new production models, not classics and a sprint car? Finally, is that a 1970's-80's vintage bumper I see peeking into the frame at the far left at about the level of the Futura's driver's side headlight? Nice try, Harry...It's a well-done MODEL.
