amt pete 359 tri-axle custom
bandit1 replied to bandit1's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
i hope and hint the word hope to be working on it soon! i want to try to get the frame back together and ill see where i go from there. but eventually this thread will end up being a wip! -
hi guys hey kurt i found the ol' girl... this is a custom triaxle pete 359 ertl/amt kit that i am building... well at least started on what 2 or so years ago? i had started to add a extra section of frame from a old partially built up and painted midnight express kit (had no decals) and then i went and started to modify the body to put dual air breathers on it (as you all know it was a single breather) by adding the extra breather whatever its called! (non trucker building model trucks )to the cab and then cutting the hood for the extra breather which i still need to clean up just a tad! and i traded off the kit engine for a 3406 cat... yeah a CAT guys... that i had started to assemble and mock into place... and then the worst thing happend!... had to pack everything up and move!... and then it was stuck in storage for a while... then well as i was going through everything to see what was there and what wasn't i spotted it and said oh heck yeah i know what i was doing with that and then well heres the pics after i finally broke her open and started to look to see what kind of damage and what not had happened so ill let the pics do the talking here sorta...! heres the decals! heres the wheels heres where i modified the hood ... the cab ...frame( it fell back apart!) comments and crticism welcomed!

man i guess im a modeling machine! i worked on it some more. here is where i modified the drive shaft that goes in b/w the two rear drive axles. it just looked to "plasticie!" heres the photos- heres the front shocks on! rear shocks- (probably is not the best pic!) heres the completed frame! just prior to paint... i think i gotta stop by the paint store first before i get any paint work done! dang it! by the way i need some help i looked at the possible engine swap for the 3406 but it looks like i wont beable to use it cause in a 1:1 the axle would come up and slam in to the oil pan on the very first bump and cause all kinds of engine issues! so is there another cat motor that would work minus the 3408? -

hey guys updates i fixed the axle! and did a little more work starting to install the cat 3406 just to see what kinda work will be needed and it looks like not a whole lot of mods to the mounts! maybe someone can get me a pic of how the mounts look for a 3406 in a 377 ae if thats possible so it would be more accurate! but i dont know i still may stick with the series 60! -

Dechroming parts
bandit1 replied to cdnmodman's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
actually fellows there is a product called "wesleys bleech wite" < i think thats how its spelled! its used to keep the white wall tires white! you can find it in any automotive parts stores just go in and ask for (pronounced) wesleys bleach white!~ heres a plus it wont harm the plastic anyway shape or form! and something even better if you go get "pantyhose"... yes i said it "pantyhose" you can use that as a filter and just reuse the stuff over and over and even over! -

hey great work so far i need to get on my dump project! question for you kurt- whats the best places (cheap & reliable) where you find all this evergreen at? also do you ever buy any of evil-bay??? i found my next project (inspired by this build!) i think i gotta parts wanted in the wanted section but i need parts from the 378 kit(mainly put dual breathers on the 377 kit and the spare drive wheels for my lift axle!) and i am going to pick up a 377 a/e kit (red one with the flags) and build a custom dumper my self now seeing that my 359 triaxle is going to have the alfab smoothside i will try to find the perfect dump body for the 377! again great work! cheers - bandit1!~
