  1. Thanks everyone
  2. I guess this is how it works, the build is covered in “ Work in Progress “ here it is, finished for now.
  3. I think they came on a Slixx quarter panel decal set, I’ll do some checking.
  4. My brother in law worked for Southwestern Bell and would give me the scraps, That’s where this came from. I’ve even wondered about armature wire and painting it, but that’s a lot of trouble. I’ll do some shopping.
  5. Oh wow, Im glad you guys are OK. Thanks, for the good word, it turned out well, I’m usually my own worst critic. It’s something different. I’m waiting on my daughter to edit the final pics for the under glass.
  6. Very cool project, I’m following
  7. I agree, IMHO probably the coolest AMC pro stock ever built!
  8. When I was a little kid growing up in south St. Louis, the city block we lived on boarderd, South Kingshighway. There were several new car dealers on this street, one of which was Ben Lindenbusch American Motors. I used to hang out at at the service entrance after hours as they had two Red White and Blue Super Stock AMX’s that they would work on and race on the weekends. This created a fondness for the AMC cars I still have to this day. One of my build list project’s is the Shirley Shahan’s Hornet Pro Stock. I acquired a Johan Hornet Funny Car that had been started many years ago. The kit can only be built as a Funny Car, the hood is molded shut, no stock interior or chassis pan. The body was painted with lacquer and its crazed the plastic. So armed with the body and an article from the December 1971 edition of Hot Rod magazine I’m going to attempt to build Shirley’s 71 Hornet
  9. Is this the wire your talking about?
  10. Wow very accurate, very nice work!
  11. Very cool!
  12. Very nice work it looks great!
  13. As with any build I took some liberties, according to my research Cross &Reher built their own drive shaft loop, and traction bars. These were painted black on the 1-1 car, but I liked a little color.
  14. I need to come up with smaller plug wires and a successful way doing fuel lines. Sadly this one as well as my California Flash are missing them.
  15. I’m calling this finished for now. I tried lettering the classification and numbers for the windows with little success, I’ll keep trying and maybe I will get something acceptable someday. It’s come a long way from where it started.
  16. Thanks , Jason and Tim, I appreciate your comments.
  17. Coming along, I’ll be following
  18. Quick up date, just a few details left
  19. Thanks guys, it’s getting there, it has its issues
  20. Final assembly....... so far so good, stance Is good, fender aprons fit well. The parts pile is getting smaller.
  21. Interior complete, without any interior pics, I had to take some liberty . The original car was a 6 cylinder, probably had a bench seat. The magazine article stated they swapped the front suspension from a 66 Mustang with five lugs and larger brakes. Since they were still in college at this time, with limited funds, I assumed they may have opted for a pair of Mustang buckets and removed the bench seat. The rules stated any stock style bucket seats were acceptable, so that’s what I went with. Some of my research showed what appears to be a bolt in Lakewood roll bar. In later pictures it appears a 4 or 6 point roll bar is installed, but I’m doing the earlier version, that closely depicts their first NHRA Winter National event win.
  22. I remember seeing these At the dealership when they came out, you did an excellent job on it. I think it might look better than the real one did.
  23. That came out very nice, I love the color combination, wheels and the stance is spot on! Very nice!
