After a serious last minute thrash I actually made it to the starting line with my entry: "Plan Bee". Named so because my initial idea was getting too complicated,to the point that it was not going to be finished. I really wanted to finish this year, so I decided to regroup. Sticking with the '69 Super Bee that I had chosen for my birth year build, I decided to go the exact opposite direction and build a bare knuckle, old school street machine in the same vein as Hot Rod Magazines Crusher Camaro. If you look at the build thread you will see that the second build actually was a darker blue, but that got ruined and my finished build is actually a third body! Even though it was tense at times, I am glad it is done!
Details of the build:
Paint: Dupli-Color Medium Maui Blue, a GM color. Krylon Short Cuts Clear
Engine: kit 440 with Detail Master velocity stacks, valve covers from the AMT '49 Mercury, block hugger headers from Monogram '37 Ford sedan, resin distributor and plug wires added, electronic ignition from Monogram '37 Ford sedan.
Interior: Painted Tamiya NATO black, roll bar from Revell/Monogram '66 Malibu, shifter from Monogram Nascar kit, black flocking carpet added, dash and door panels detail painted.
Chassis: front suspension lowered and rear narrowed, scratch built frame connectors and driveshaft "loop", exhaust from Monogram '70 T/A Challenger.
Wheels and Tires: front tires are Monogram from the parts box and are older issue tires that are the same as the ones that come in the kit, but they are solid rubber/vinyl. I turned the smooth side out and added white letter tire decals from the SB kit. Backs are the larger street machine tires from a Monogram 1970 Chevelle kit with white letter decals added. Wheels are resin American 5 spoke mags, Modelhaus fronts and Drag City rears. Detail painted with Model Master Metalizer paints.
Other details: Mopar license plate on front bumper, Firebird Designs Pennsylvania license plate on the rear.

Certainly an improvement from the original! The pics are so good, it could easily be confused for a real car and not a model.

That's really cool! Great color, the engine detail and exhaust cut-outs are nicely done!

Ok, I'm still not done, but not giving up yet either! The car has changed yet again. The original body was a darker blue (as seen in previous posts) ,it had some mold line ghosting which I was not happy with, which was strike one. Then when I tried to apply the tail stripe decal it did not work and in the process of trying to remove it, I lifted a sizable chunk of paint from the trunk area. That body is now in scale model Valhalla and I was able to release a bit of misplaced aggression destroying it. I thought I was done, but as it turns out, I had a second older body, an original issue Monogram molded in blue. So, I was able to prep and paint the second body, this time in a lighter blue, which is what I originally wanted. I added the custom decals from the latest issue kit instead of the stock bumble bee strip that I had ruined on the other body. They are styled after the factory 1970 Super Bee stripes. I also decided to 86 the black steel wheels and replaced them with some resin American 5 spoke mags. The chassis still has the darker blue overspray, but I am not going to change that now. I am going to keep on going and try to get it done in time!

Nice work! Love the stance and engine details. It reminds me of a real one my dad's friend had when I was growing up.

"Plan Bee" update: The body is painted, a little darker than I expected, but looks good. The interior was painted Tamiya Nato Black with a semigloss clear coat. The roll bar is body color. I got a lot of other stuff painted and did a little detailing on things that were already dry. I added frame connectors and a drive shaft loop to the chassis and got it painted. The wheels are painted black and the white letter decals were put on the tires. They will need a coat of dullcote when they dry. The engine is painted red because I didn't have any orange. I will mask and paint the trans tomorrow. Still a long way to go, but a lot or progress today!

Got some work done on my entry. The stance is figured out and adjusted and some parts are being stripped, others are painted. The roll bar is fitted (taken from the new Revell '66 Malibu reissue). The body needs clean up and prep for primer, the basic engine is assembled but needs primer to see how much more clean up is needed due to the engine being split, leaving a seam in the middle of the oil pan and trans. That is a definite weak spot on older Monogram kits......I will have a few days off for Thanksgiving, so hopefully I can get it done in time. Still not 100% sure about the color, but I am leaning toward a Duplicolor spray paint I got at Ollie's dirt cheap a few years ago, it is pretty close to B5 Blue.

I'm not sure if anyone has noticed, but the price tag on the truck is 160k. I looked on the site and all their vehicles (gas or electric) range in price from just below that to 200k, more if options are added. So how many people can afford these, regardless of how it is powered?

Looks good! Nice job on the mods!

Excellent work! Looks great in that color and the wheels and stance look great!

Well, I am late to the party, but I am here! My original plan was a '69 Super Bee with a Hellcat engine, super low, a pro touring type car. I actually started cutting one up, but it did not go the way I wanted and needs way too much for me to finish on time. So, I am not giving up but there has been a change of plans.... A switch to an old school style build. The new plan is an A12 car on Steroids, Steel wheels, blown 440, big and little tires, some parts box additions. I am not sure of the color, but the first incarnation was going to be Petty blue with a black interior and stripe, so I may stick with that, I'm not sure yet. It will be pretty straight forward, but I really want to actually finish for once!

From my experience, Spotlight Hobbies has always been reliable and honest. The items I have bought were exactly as described, packed well and sent quickly. They have an excellent reputation for a reason.

Excellent model! Love the panel paint! Maybe the best build I have seen of this difficult kit!

That is the engine from the original Monogram '32 Ford "Sport" Coupe. It is bigger than 1/24, more like 1/22 or 1/20. It was issued in 1959 and a motorized version in 1960.

Great job! The paint is super and the over all look is very aggressive!

I recently got all 4 1/32 Atlantis funny cars, and they were all molded in blue. I was hoping to get at least a little variation in colors. I am thinking about getting a second set, is there any markings on the box or some way to tell the colors you are getting? I don't really care which color is on which car, I just didn't want them all to be the same.

I like choice #4, the dark gray/black ones. I think they work best with your mods.

I'm thinking full-fendered A-V8, just like one would have been built from '45 after the war through about '53, including the then-hot setup '34 X-member, 16" steel disc wheels, recapped slicks, 3-speed LaSalle or Packard gearbox behind a "full race" 8BA flathead, Halibrand 201 V8 quickchange (which would make it post-'48, I believe), '40 Ford "juice" brakes, and a dropped-and-filled front beam axle. Yeah, that'll work.
Is there a Packard transmission available in 1/25? I would love to have a few.....

I like it! You really captured the feel of the old drag cars.
