Great story! -
What do you think .....? (I am kinda stuck...)

I would look for a blower off of a smaller scale car possibly 1/16 or 1/20. Same thing with carbs and injecter scoops, etc. Hope this helps. -
Build for yourself-FIRST!
Modelmartin replied to raymanz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree with the sentiment. The interesting thing is the differnt reasons people have for deciding what to build for themselves. Some like to impress others and build what the crowd is doing and some are rugged individualists who build what they want no matter how much everyone else ignores it. Some build very casually and others build very serious, involved projects. There are a thousand different reasons for building models and they are all good. -
That is a very nice model of a very cool car. I always wanted to see that conversion done. Bravo!

What kind of tires are these?
Modelmartin replied to mountaindewd's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Modelhaus makes excellent vintage bigs, littles, and pie crust slicks and all can be orered with one or both sides as whitewalls. These are the Cat's pajamas and highly recommended. -
Nice looking work so far. Check out Norm Veber's (Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland) wood wheels in 1/24th. He duplicates the real wheel more closely by laminating chunks of wood together so when it is turned you can see the different pieces that make up the rim. Wood wheels aren't usually made from one big piece. The grain should run more or less around the wheel rather than across it on two sides.

That's cool that you still have them and they do look pretty good. I have few models from the Nixon and Gerald Ford Eras still! Nixon 68-74 Ford 74-76 For those born later than us middle aged types!

That looks like a big block Chevy but those headers would have to be scratchbuilt.

Pau, what does this mean please.

We need to have a Hawaiian glossary to refer to! -
Joe Amato`s "Superman" T/F dragster

Nice job! The weathering on the frame makes it look like a Garlis car! How were the decals to apply? I have that kit and would like to build it someday. -
Resin is a general term for a liquid plastic that can be cast. It is usually a two part mixture of plastic and hardener. It is used to cast model cars and parts. The only dumb question is the one that isn't asked.

I built one of these when they came out and I didn't think it went together too badly. It did take a lot of skill. The problem came about 5 years later. The door skins, fenders and hood were all warped and coming off of the model!! I think the paint combined with the very thin plastic that Heller molds was a bad combo. Good luck on yours. It is a cool model when done.

How do you BMF the doorlocks, can't make circle..
Modelmartin replied to bigmikevee's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Something I used to do is find a really small straight pin and drill a hole where the lock is and glue in the pinhead. It's already chrome and will not fall off! -
What John just said!

No. That's it as far as I know. The rest is supposed to be from a Fujimi 356. I have mine started withan opening engine cover and front trunk lid. It actually works out pretty well but you can't be afraid to trim! A lot. I don't know if Guido later did a curbside. He did that with some of the other kits he sold.

Am I missing something here?
Modelmartin replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My final thoughts on the subject are this - over the years the model company support has come and gone many times only to break our hearts! The longest running shows are put on by model builders themselves. GSL started in 1980. The NNL concept began about then and the Toledo NNL started in 1980 also. That is a lot of stability. There are many shows going on 10, 20 or more years now. Stability is essential to any growth of the hobby and unfortunately the model companies for many reasons can't provide that when it comes to support for the show scene. How many times have each company changed hands since GSL started? A lot! I would rather have slow, steady growth of the hobby based on enthusiasts work and participation. We will always accept any model company support but I wouldn't pursue it. It's not reliable. -
I think all they had in the shop was a brake and a roller!

Come on, Ken! I was trying to get Harry to come out and play with us and now you are discouraging him!! Besides, I don't know what contests you have been to but it doesn't sound like any I have been to. There is always a little bit of discontent but there always is in any group of humans! 99% of of people going to model shows are just fine! -

What I am referring to is your prideful insistence that you have not nor will you ever enter a contest. That is "all about you". Entering a contest to me is supporting the people who put it on. Insisting on not entering a contest or going to an NNL is very selfish. You talk of promoting the hobby but what better way is there than to go out and participate in it in the real world. You have a great presence on this forum and you may be the most famous model builder that nobody has ever met in person but I think you need to crawl out from behind the keyboard and help promote the hobby in person. -

We just concluded our NNL North show and we had a big display from Round 2 that they very generously sent us. It included lots of catalogs, kits and display posters. We have had donations from Revellogram and AMT/ERTL in the past. They do get out there after a fashion. The Round Two donation this year was very impressive. These guys already do what you suggested. There is no need to call it the Round Two NNL North!!! I also think there are problems with naming a contest after a model company. I think people are sick of the corpor-izing of America. Name changes of shows cause continuity problems. Then there is the turf thing. The show is put on by the local organizers and they rightfuly don't want to be sold out. I don't get why you think I am a Luddite just because I don't like your ideas. Am I calling you a corporate whore? -

I think the big problem with all of this talk is who is going to run it? Who is going to plan, organize, run, and promote it? It takes a lot of work from a lot of people whether it is a photo contest or a series of local contests or a true national scope contest. Mark Gustavson and MANY others put in a lot of hours and cash to make GSL happen. The Kansas City guys put in a ton of time and effort to make the Heartland Classic come off each year and it is a fine contest. There are already many contests around the country that deserve our support. That includes IPMS Regionals and Nationals. They are great events. At this point in time and considering the realities we all face, it is silly to talk of a new contest series of unknwn sponsorship, scope, and organization. It is especially silly when the proposers aren't willing to do the work. I have seen dozens of people come and go at clubs, etc. who have a lot of great ideas for other people to do the work on! Mike Siegman and a number of others ran the NAMCC for three years. It started in Chicago and moved to Detroit for the second and third years. Mike would have to confirm but I think he just burned out on it and he has a life to live, or at least he did! I made it to the first one and thought it was a great event. By the way, many of the contests that Car Model Mag ran in the sixties and seventies were photo contests. With digital photography now it makes photo contests a whole lot easier to participate in. I don't want to be the rain on this parade but let's support the contests that already exist! You too, Harry! It isn't all about you. Enter the contest for the sake of the people who run it. Enter to support and promote the hobby. Your models will inspire other people. Other people's models will inspire you. It's all good so get off your weird high horse and enter or particpate in a contest or NNL. -
Too Easy!

Ok! Those last 2 replies were hilarious! The question was about Tony Nancy's 22 JR Dragster which was a nationally known dragster that Revell made a kit of - not jr dragsters. An easy mistake to make if you aren't reading very carefully. The chute lines usually attached to the lower rear most part of the frame. Typically there is a steel ring that the lines attach to and the ring is attached to some sort of a bracket welded or bolted to the frame. The 22 Jr has a full body so I would not worry about thow accurate it is. Buck up on your proofreading, son.
