Candy and Transparent Paints
Modelmartin replied to hookedonplastics's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
It sounds like your coats of paint are too heavy. Build up with several very light coats and let dry thoroughly and then hit it with a wet coat (just wet enough to gloss) that isn't too heavy. -
Any old fool can start a model. It takes a real builder to finish one!

What do you mean? That sounds like moral relativism! Where are the values? The world is going to ruin.

Very Cool model! Carlo Abarth was born as Karl in Austria and the Isetta started life in Italy as the ISO before BMW bought it. It is a perfect match of tuner and manufacturer - both German/Italian hybrids! The Messerschmidt should be built as a AMG or Alpina or even Gembella!

Great work. I really appreciate that you went to all of the effort to get the stance correct and to make accurate tinwork. It looks great! Too many people slap on paint and decals and do not bother with accuracy. Kudos to you!

In Frankenmuth, Michigan they have a Christmas Superstore that is open year around! The place is as big as a K-mart! It is truly frightening!

Morally illegal? Say what? Corporations? I suggest model building!

I see too many customs and modified bodies where the window detail is just sanded off and it looks awful. Used bars of soap have more surface detail! Interiors and chassis shot with flat black throughout. Ugly and unrealistic. Poor fitting windows. It does not take much to get kit windows to look better. Roll cages that don't fit. A scale 6 inch gap between roof and cage looks awful. Attention to detail and clean building. I have seen out of the box models that looked far better than heavily kit-bashed and semi-scratch built models because the builder paid attention! Personal opinion here but I have to roll my eyes every time I hear the excuse that someone just builds for fun or for themselves. Give me a break! Why do some even say that? It is so stupid. Just build to the level that you are capable of and desire to build to and let it be. As several have pointed out on this thread, those of us who build extremely detailed models are having fun too. We build for ourselves, too! Get a jackhammer and dislodge that chip off of the shoulder!

LOL ! Conservatives and libertarians decry any government interference in public life............until it's a cause they want legislated.

Scott, There is one in Woodbury off of Woodbury drive - right next to Sam's club. Talk about two places you would NEVER find me in!!

Has there ever been any hobby related enterprise with this much bad juju ever????? I am still amazed even after the most epic thread ever back in 2007 right on this board. 7 more years since then- WOW!

I just don't see the 3D printing thing becoming "household". The technically adept will adopt it and use it but most people are not that adept at using CAD or CAM programs, scanning, getting different pieces of hardware and software to work with each other. Also, I don't think the finished products will be as good as molded products. They won't have the same integrity. It may be fine for Christmas ornaments and knick-knacks but not a lot else. It isn't the "light bulb". The advantages of the light bulb were quite obvious. It is more like the "paperless office" and everyone working online from home. Great idea but probably won't happen for most people. It does however remind me of Steve Jobs mom - "Why would I ever need a computer in my home?" Speaking of the light bulb - did you know that the first electrical generating plant only operated at night? The only electrical devices were lights and you only needed them at night. The future is unpredictable.

My mind is officially blown. I am pretty jaded and have seen a lot of great kits over the years but this one is pretty impressive. I am looking forward to your under glass pics. Great job!

But Harry, does the derailleur work? MPC did make an 1/8 scale Sting Ray kit and a Continental road bike. My best buddy in Junior High school had a paper route and bought an Apple Krate. I was so jealous. I had a hand me down 20" bike. My parents got me some high rise handlebars but they said no to a banana seat. I was so deprived!!!!

Rommel's Rod sells for $ 1 million +
Modelmartin replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh come on now, Scott! All of this talk about PC police is just silly! Has anyone ever even suggested that Rommel's Rod be banned from production? The very fact that they made new tooling to bring it back suggests otherwise. Despite what some folks think this is a very free country. There is no such thing as PC Police despite what some people on this board and elsewhere imagine. There is a heightened awareness of being nice to more people, though! -

You probably have not noticed because few do, but Native Americans have been protesting the derogatory sports team names and other racist representations of Native Americans since at least the 1970s. Of course Fox News was not around then so you would not have heard about it!!! -

The issue has been around a lot longer than Harry Reid has been in office. Society's sensibilities change over time. The N-word used to be acceptable at one time. There are lots of things that once were acceptable but are not now. We have evolved. To quote that great humanitarian and philosopher Rodney King - " Can't we all just get along".
