  1. Lots of cool stuff! I wish I was there. I liked the 'toon Semi-Truck!!
  2. Le Car. Enough said.
  3. I noticed the 2 different sets of bumpers??? Euro and US ??? or different years???? The only thing I see that I don't groove on is lack of engine detail and decals for the beltline trim. The rest looks nice. I will get one to throw on the pile.
  4. I don't know if there is an official definition but I don't think the first 2 styles of Baracuda could be called Pony cars. I thought that just the Mustang/Cougar and Camaro/Firebird and later, the 70 on Baracuda and Challenger and AMX were. Everything else was a Muscle car.
  5. Well. I am a monkey's uncle! I could have sworn it was a 'Vette but I can see that the door length is too long for a Vette. The quarters sure look 'Vett-ish. The width of the car is definitely more Camaro than 'Vette.
  6. There's your problem!! Seriously, though, it sounds like a classic case of too much stick on the tape and not enough on the paint. Even though the Tamiya tape isn't that sticky for masking tape, it is still too much for what you are using it for. Try Scotch tap (the frosty kind) pressed on your hand once , pulled off and then stuck on your model. Bare-metal foil is good for masking window trim, too. For the paint, it almost sounds like you might have waited too long between primer and color? Lacquer does dry completely and becomes more brittle. I would have masked and sprayed the trim sooner but that isn't too critical. Even with all of my experience I still occasionally have a problem with pulling up paint. I think it is because a good model car paint job is thin and lacks strength. 1/1 paint jobs are a mile thick in comparison and hold up well. Good luck and try, try again.
  7. The "Starship" is obviously Corvette based. The doors and quarters are the giveaway. Cosma-ray was an MPC kit.
  8. I have a friend who owns a 1961 GMC Firetruck that has a gasoline V-12 in it which is 2 of the GMC V-6 engines siamesed together. It is a really cool engine. The only unique parts are the block, crank and cam. It has 4 heads, 2 intake manifolds, 2 distributors, etc. He found out that the resaon they developed this engine originally was that the car haulers needed more power and the dealers didn't like cleaning deisel soot off of the new cars that got delivered. He doesn't think that there were many made - only a few thousand. It would sure make a unique model subject - a V-12 car hauler!
  9. Or for those who are sober!!!!
  10. Don't forget the Eidai-Grip / Entex Carrera RSR Turbo. That was 1/8 and Silver.
  11. We could go to the extreme(which I only do to illutsrate a point) and deduct points because we did not injection mold our own parts! If we took that line of thinking out a ways only scratchbuilt models would get points. Painting is a part of model building and assembling. I won't buy the argument that it is something purchased just like P/E or machined parts. Parts is parts!
  12. Mark considers painting a model part of building it and the model must be built by the entrant. The idea was that even though only Russ was serious(nuts?) enough to buy the parts from Cody, as far as building the model went it was no different than if they were a production set of parts that were purchased through normal channels. The funny thing is that today we can buy all of the stuff that Russ had Cody machine for him. Actually we have more available now! I have spent about $200. on a Yamaha YZR and I am not done yet!(with buying stuff for it, not building!) I understand Mark's reasoning. I didn't agree with it completely. I understand your argument that if a painter will paint for anyone it shouldn't matter but I don't agree with that either. To me painting is a critical part of building and as Harry said a contest is to judge the skills of the builder as evidenced by the quality of the model entered.
  13. I think something that would help some of the "work by other than the builder" problems would be for contests to define their rules better. If it is allowed, so be it. If it is not allowed, so be it also! I think an open category would be a good idea, too. I would love to see collaborations by some really good builders out there. At GSL some years ago, controversy erupted because best in Show was Russ Schwenkler's amazing Tamiya racebike. It was a stunningly well done model and Russ clearly did a fantastic job on it but....... it had $1000. worth of custom machined parts by Cody Grayland on it!! It was allowed because theoretically Cody would have machined that same set of parts for anyone who paid for them and Russ did do all aspects of assembly. I don't know how a situation could get any grayer than that one. Mark G. is an attorney, of course, and trained to make things real gray so his services will be needed to sort it all out! Make no mistake that I think it was an excellent model and well deserving of the win. I think the rules need to catch up to what is happening out there. A contest like GSL should throw the doors open to anything. A local contest should be builder and entrant must be the same person. That's just my 2 Zlotys!!
  14. Palmer or Premier. Pyro never did a Karmann. I agree with VW Dave. Ditch it. It is beyond fugly. Make a Deal's Wheels out of it!!!
  15. Turbo too small!!!!
  16. Clever idea and well done!
  17. Hey Gary, That comment is just plain rude. (besides the fact we are all trying to leave politics out of the forum) I like small cars! I always have. I freely choose them. I have owned an original Mini. I thought this was the land of the free. I am free to pick small cars if I want them. My mother drives an XB and I think it is a great little vehicle. I would get one myself if I could afford one. Maybe in a few years when they hit the well-used market. I don't need to drive a pair of sofas on wheels to assert my manhood!
  18. Great job on the rivets! I have to get some of those. How about JB Weld for gluing the hinges? It's available at Auto parts stores. I have found it to be real grippy and easy to work and control. I will be using it shortly on the Model Car Garage piano hinges for my Wills Finecast T59. I will be gluing white metal hood halves on to the hinge!!! I will be posting that project soon.
  19. V-dubs? 2010? NNL South? I am so there.
  20. Cool model! I am glad it turned out for you. Funny cars make cool pro/mods.
  21. That camper is simply too cool! The Woodruff Special is pretty interesting. Notice that it had an inside rear view mirror!!
  22. I have a story similar to Jantrix'! I built one of the re-issued Monogram dragsters that Galaxy put out. I had all of the parts painted and decalled. As I was doing final assembly I couldn't find the flat plate that covers the top of the carbs. I looked everywhere! I simply could not find it anywhere! I gave it up for lost. No big deal, it's not a major component and the model still looked fine. 3 YEARS later I am going through some magazines and I find it stuck to the back page of one!!!! It's now well glued to the model.
  23. Outstanding start to this project! Your fabrication skills are excellent. I am a major Bugatti enthusiast and also love this car. The car you saw at Monterey was a re-creation with a lot of original Bugatti components but a very authentic one. One of the originals does survive in slightly modified form in the museum in Mulhouse, France. Your plastic wheels should look OK in black BUT.... Machined Aluminum Specialties did some photoetch "Duesenberg" wire wheel sets that were not very accurate for a Duesey but the turned rims fit like a glove in the Bugatti tires. You might need to narrow the rims and put a spacer behind the hub to get the right look for these wheels but that is easily done. Some really nice and accurate wheels would be the crowning touch for a great model. Congrats on a great project and I will be watching the progress eagerly.
  24. Yahoo! Mountain Dew! I like the beverage theme you have going here and by the way, the models look real nice!
