  1. I will let the Monogram original Little T box do the talking!! The date on the box is 1964. It is the glued style box which is a little older than RatRod's box.
  2. You can add him to your "ignore users" list yourself. Actually, I would just let it slide. He was making fun of you and you did walk right into it. Shake it off and dive back in.
  3. Actually the Mercedes is the only one that is too big. All of the other Monogram classics are scaled well. I think they enlarged it to use the same tires as the Deusenberg and others in the series. A 500/540K is not a large car and in Monogram's world it is almost as long as the Deusey!!!! A Deusenberg is LARGE! If you run across a Jo-Han mercedes compare it the Monogram Have fun cutting it up! That is what it is for!
  4. I would be up for that! Nice build/resto! I have a glue bomb of this one which I would like to redo some day maybe with the cylindrical tank out back instead of the PU box. It originally came with 3 options for the back end -PU box, chrome cylindrical tank and turtle deck!
  5. I don't think so. We have 2 clubs here in Mpls/St. Paul and while there is a little bit of rivalry between clubs because of different personalities and interests, most model builders can find a home in one or both of them and be very welcome there! We have one NNL put on by both clubs every year and it is very welcoming to all non-club members. I think the situation that Floridaboy describes is the exception rather than the rule. Just about everywhere I have gone in the country I have found model car builders to be very friendly, welcoming, and open - including California!
  6. That is the Monogram 540K and in silver plastic that would be the 70s release of it. It is large, probably about 1/22 scale in reality. Have fun with it!
  7. I don't know of a resin one but the Tamiya kit has a good styrene one and the upcoming AMT/Round 3 Meyers Manx will have a very nice one too. How about a Fujimi Porsche 356 motor for a little spice in your buggy? The Testors boxed ones don't go for too much on Ebay.
  8. You can't have too many supplies for model building!
  9. Lock this thread already, Man! It is going off topic!! It's off the reservation!
  10. Very nicely done. I like it!
  11. Not due! Anything auto-related, especially racing is of plenty of interest to model builders, MR. TOPIC POLICEMAN!!!!! p.s. all in good fun!
  12. I am not a big fan of rat rods. They seem to be lazy efforts and kind of half-assed in my opinion with some exceptions of course. I do like the spirit of them however. This isn't a rat rod of course because the craftsmanship is obviously too nice but it captures some of more fun qualities of the rat rods. I love the mix of 20s and 50s design on this one. Hot Rod on Ebay
  13. My pet peeve is having more cool kits, great decal sets, detailing kits, P/E, etc than I can possibly have time to build them in. Tim Boyd has said that we are living in the "New Golden Age of Model Cars" and I agree with him 100%. We have been experiencing an embarassment of riches since the 90s began in everything related to model cars with the exception of cheap plastic kits. My second pet peeve is listening to all of the carping and bellyaching about this and that feature on a kit. Are we model car builders or are we whiny wimps?
  14. Jean Todt can sure run a motorsports team but we will see how well he can herd cats now. But Ecclestone is still around. And did you see that list of FIA senators and board members. Why are people from Ecuador and Tanzania on it??????
  15. Who's that funny looking decal maker at dinner with you??
  16. Little known fact: The Zinger dune buggy has an approximately 1/20 Boss 429 motor for those who may need one!!! Really! I will be liking the Meyers Manx. It has an excellent VW motor and trans for use in Revell Dune Buggies which have a terrible VW motor as do their Beetles. I smell transplant! I will have to get a Bugaboo but that is for nostalgia. I built one as a youth. By the time it comes out though, I may change my mind. I am still Jonesing for the Tommy Ivo FED and the Model T double kit. I already have enough double dragster parts and a Blueprinter of that and haven't built any of them!!!!! So many cool kits and precious little time!!!
  17. Nice model. Those AMR kits are a pleasure (most of the time) to build. They seem to have the best fitting vac-forms in the industry.
  18. I actually know Joel and the Geo Metro Convert master is at Norm Weber's house! It has been there for years and it doesn't sound like it will be produced.
  19. They were all Japanese and from the 70s as far as I know. My guess is that there weren't too many. Entex sold some of them over here and were mostly sports or sports racing cars. I had a 1/28 Porsche 935/78 protoype at one time. It was the only kit ever made of that version of that car in plastic. Keep on searching on Ebay and you will probably find a bunch of them over time and I would venture that you wouldn't have to pay much for them.
  20. You and Gregg are masters of this universe and you guys should do what YOU want to do. If you try to please everyone you will not please anyone so you guys should just please yourselves and it will all sort itself out. Definition of too off-topic? Like the Supreme Court justice said. "I can't define pornography but I sure know it when I see it"! You guys do a good job of running this forum. Dealing with humans is messy stuff and you do a commendable job.
  21. Cool Ts, Terry! There is something very appealing about Ts. You can do anything with them. They are a great canvas for anyone to paint on to express themselves.
  22. The Lindberg is the old Pyro kit originally and it is a little lacking in finesse. I expected to see something severely pro-streeted from you!!! I like seeing it done mildly street-rodded. Those Continentals are such cool cars. Looking forward to seeing you finish this one. There is a guy in Iowa who drives around in the coupe version of this Lincoln but it has a 427 SOHC motor in it. That thing really rumbles when it cruises past. It is 100% stock otherwise. Parked at the curb you would have no idea whats under the hood.
  23. To quote Steve Martin (no relation although my brother sort of resembles him), "Excuuuuuuuse me!" I think most of us, being typical humans, got the jist of the poll and people's comments and did not read and absorb the precise language of it. What I have liked about this forum is that people are pretty free to say what they want and nothing gets deleted. It is quite refreshing, actually. You even leave the locked threads in place! I did think that the poll and subsequent comments in that thread indicated people's desires to cease with the politics and religion. If this forum was strictly limited to just model cars I would be quite bored with it. Since AMT did release a Bonnie and Clyde themed version of the 32 Ford back when the Faye Dunaway/Warren Beatty movie came out I would say this thread is model related!!!
  24. I thought it was no politics and religion. I see nothing wrong with this post.
  25. I remember that one. I tried to get one but his production run was sold out. Ron Andrews of RMR is supposed to be coming out with one. I need one for my Sox and Martin hauler.
