  1. I use Mr Clean lemon scented kitchen floor cleaner. I pour some in a small glass container, add the parts, and wait over night. When I come back the parts are clean and the silver has completely disappeared. Then I put the Mr Clean back in it's container. No awful smells or bad chemicals to touch. Works great every time!
  2. There was a diecast of the van version by Spec Cast a long while back. All American did the pickup version and the station wagon. I think RMR may make this wagon today.
  3. I was checking out one of the websites that had popped up to compete with eBay. Those sites are always under funded and have zero traffic. I went to the toy/model section and there were a few new diecasts. Then I saw a model lot.. two kits, an original 1963 Nova convertible and the original issue Monogram Model A Woody Wagon. Price $10. for the pair!
  4. Cool build. I love the US Forces plates! When I lived in Germany from 1969-72 we had the green plates with silver lettering.I still have a pair of those tucked away. I guess the newer plates were done in black and white so they'd blend in better with the local plates.
  5. I am hoping to buy a 'real' spray booth in the near future. Maybe that would be a good family Christmas present to me! In the meantime, here's one I made and have been using for the past 20 years or so... It's basically a Tucker brand recycling bin that I bought because it was 24x24x24 tall. I tossed the lid. It has a bathroom fan in the back of it. The exhaust goes through a metal dryer vent that I place in the window when in use. I have the fan and the lights on one power strip so I use that to turn it on and off. I will pretty much leave it running the whole time I'm working in the model room to provide exhaust for any odors I'm generating. It keeps the smells from going the other direction and into the rest of the house. The photo is in my old house where the model room was a corner room. So I had a window on each of two walls. In that house, especially because I had kids home then, I'd crack open the other window and shut the door. That way I set up a cross ventilation that didn't involve the rest of the house. The inside of the booth was lined with newspaper. A lot of the paint on the paper were test sprays. I'd take the entire booth outside once a year (when I wasn't building much) taking it all apart and cleaning out everything. And I'd change the newspaper. Overall, may not be the safest apparatus, and I'm not telling you to copy this at all, but I've been using it 20 years without mishap. Oh, one important thing, I have always kept a fire extinguisher in the model room just in case.
  6. Here's a couple of inspiration pictures for you. I've had these kicking around for years. Thought it would make an interesting build...
  7. Hmmm.. mine came out a bit different... not exactly what's shown on the box!
  8. Here's my 1979 Fox Capri RS with a V8 and the TRX suspension / wheel package. It was one of the very first sold in our area. When we saw it we just had to have it. Paid dearly for it since it was nothing but trouble and one problem after another for the three years we owned it. Traded it in on a Nissan Stanza. But of course I do want to build a model of it. I believe I have all the parts in the same box. I was told that the kits didn't have the right wheel flares for the Capri. Do you know about this?
  9. Should be able to find a plastic one easy enough. The best one out there is the Lindberg '63 Plymouth / Dodge one. The Deora also has one as does the original Revell '62 Valiant and Lancer kits. I believe there were also 6s in an early Barracuda.
  10. My father was a life long photographer and lived for 35mm. He shot mostly slides and I have tons of old family photos due to his addiction. He died right as digital cameras were coming out. The month after he died, I got my first Sony FD83 camera for $800. I think he'd be wavering beyond being amazed at the digital technology and mourning the loss of his beloved film!
  11. I like the Buick Charlie. First I would see how that chassis cleans up and how much of that glue mess would be covered up by an exhaust system. Otherwise, I'd first look at the repops of the '62 Electra. And as you mentioned there are a number of Chevys of that era with that same style center wishbone chassis. Fit, both wheel base and body to chassis, will tell you what's best.
  12. Details, Details? That's a pretty cool buggy. Is it more or less in our scale? Materials made from, plastic or diecast? And where should we look for them? I'd like to have one just for my Jeep and dune buggy shelf.
  13. I was a late adopter. When the Panasonic VCR was on sale for $499, I jumped to get one. Of course all sold out, and waited weeks for them to honor the rain check. And this was as good as it got back then. Top loader, wired remote. Thought it couldn't get better than that! Before there were big video chains, you'd go to the mom and pop store and rent a move for $8.99 a night. They made you realize the move was worth $200 and you'd have to pay that if you lost it. Last piece I bought was a 13" color TV / DVD combo for $10 at the Good Will Store. That's the one in the model room.
  14. Back around 1982 I was working for a large engineering firm that had geared up for US Dept of Energy Alternative Fuel projects. One Friday, our government said, "Oops we changed our minds." and cancelled the funding so all those huge projects came to a screeching halt. They had people starting Monday that they couldn't reach to tell them they had no jobs!
  15. Congrats! Still you have a place to work on Monday. I've been out a while myself. Every so often I have something that appears to be working towards an offer that never comes. The last one was a consulting position that I was ideal for. The position was cancelled so nobody got it!
  16. Yes, check eBay for "Bandit" he has a lot of stuff listed there.
  17. Now that you mention it... the South African NNL gives bottles of whiskey away with the trophies! Different culture, that wouldn't go over too well here in the US
  18. there are those of us that have been into cars since before we could walk. It's not explainable, just something we noticed early in life that developed into a passion. My aunt used to tell me stories about when I was 2 years old, I made them follow the city bus in their car, stopping at each stop, and I'd watch the people get on and off. It's always been cars for me, I never developed much of an interest in sports, but my heart beats fast whenever I see a cool car! Here's a picture I drew when I was two or three. My grandmother was the great saver of all things and gave this to me when she was cleaning out her house. Kinda says it all!
  19. Here's the Fotki price schedule and what you get for the money... This is the one year price, I posted the multi-year discount schedule for the premium account earlier in this thread.
  20. Wow Rich! You are on fire! Three builds off the bench in record time.... can't wait to see what's next!
  21. Thanks! And as you may have figured, I'm all excited and trying to dream up a project to use 'em on!
  22. Make sure you get a shopping cart to push around. You'll need to fill it several times. Maybe many times.
  23. Finished up the decals today. And they fought me all the way. The checker stripes just love to curl up. Just try to line up the three pieces that make up each side! I thought it was me, but the phone number ones I made myself went on without quarrel, Now I will need to clear coat to seal them in so they don't pop off and hopefully to blend in the edges. I really fear this step! I did do some more work this evening. I made an ad teepee that will sit on the roof rack and I found a neat ad for Atlantic City Casinos since this is a New Jersey taxi. And I've painted a bunch of other small items. A short coming of this kit can be seen in the back view, The sides of the hatch are attached to the bottom edge of the tail lights in a very fragile and narrow bit. It's broke on both sides here, and on the other two kits I pulled out of my hoard. It will be okay once the tail lights are glued in place. Two things I noticed today. The rear slider track is indeed shown at the bottom of the rear side windows. Yea! And the downside is that I noticed that the front bumper doesn't include the license plate bracket (a big plastic thingie) for the 2 plate states. So I'll have to improvise. Or next time I'll do a PA vehicle.
  24. Rob, I'm still thinking about headlights. I was rummaging though my junk box and came across a pack of promotional golf tees. I don't play golf and they wound up in my shape box I cut one down to try it out, doesn't look half bad. See the other old headlight next to it for size reference. Yes, the lights are big, so your standard clear lens from my junk box was too small but ones from a 30s car would fit fine.
  25. Shipping? For that money he should be hand delivering it to your house!
