  1. Sorry Harry, unfortunately fuel can't be made out of thin air. Most all synthetic fuels came from coal, crude oil, or natural gas. As stated previously, you lose energy when you take one substance and change it to another so synthetic fuels as an alternative to gasoline is really not practical. In regards to electric cars, the one major hurdle to overcome is that of batteries. Currently they are quite expensive and made of limited resource materials, however I believe it is only a matter of time before we find a better way. As far as recharging stations, I believe Tesla may have the right idea, though being able to charge anywhere with an outlet is quite convenient. Perhaps workplaces can find ways to implement charging stations that work like parking meters so you can simply put "x" amount of dollars into a meter and let your car charge while you shop, eat, or go to work. There would be problems to work around though. Just food for thought.
  2. Have you seen new car prices? I don't know the specifics of this model, but Telsa's current model has 0-60 of 3.7 seconds, 250 mile range, and is very luxurious both inside and out. For what you get, I would say it's very affordable.
  3. They do make synthetic fuels however they are not economical. As far as I'm concerned electricity is the future of transportation. There are many more ways of creating electricity than we have now and even things such as solar and wind power are becoming more and more efficient and reliable. Sure right now they may not be too great but technology is improving at a dramatic rate. While I may be a fan of older cars, I know gasoline is on its way out and am willing to accept that fact. Who knows, maybe one day I will convert my Corvair to electric
  4. The reason why I haven't been building, my daily driver 1966 Corvair Monza, 110 hp and 4-speed. To do list: - Build engine - Custom interior - Custom spoilers and bodywork - Rebuild just about everything - Paint and powdercoating Lots of work but definitely worth it '37 Ford Pickup- S10 frame with built 4.3L, extended cab, custom bed and interior '79 Jeep J10- long term project, going to have 35's, coilover suspension, built 360 V8, possibly extended cab and shortened bed
  5. I use embossing powder from Hobby Lobby. They don't specifically have flocking.
  6. From what I can find, it seems it was caused by the pedal physically getting stuck, not electronic.
  7. Part of the problem with critiquing cars and trucks is that nothing is necessarily set in stone. Unless you're making a replica of a specific car, there is often no right or wrong way of doing it, so long as you're not trying to break the laws of physics. If you do need a little help figuring something out or making sure you do things right, don't be afraid to ask. Those of us more versed in certain subjects are more than happy to help out.
  8. Now it makes sense Most of us car modelers just like seeing what's being made and not critiquing every detail. I can see how you would be worried, coming from military modeling, but here you can build how you like.
  9. Unless you're building it for a contest, don't worry. In my personal experience the people on this forum are very forgiving of mistakes. Like you said, real police cars are all slightly different, so as long as it looks similar nobody should say anything.
  10. I've always wanted to see this truck done up, but never got around to it. Doing good work so far, good luck.
  11. I guess I need to update this. I've been working on and off with this. The real truck is nearly complete aside from the interior. With luck it should be done this summer. The model will follow suite once I fix a few problems. Sorry for the wait.
  12. Thanks everybody. This is definitely my favorite era of trucks too Dave.
  13. Started back up on this today. I rigged up part of the turbo system already using some bent exhaust pieces. The engine will be nowhere near perfect since this is a first for me. It will just be a low detail look alike diesel engine. I will upload pics in a little while.
  14. I made this as a replica of my mom's truck she used to have. I had to use two kits: 1972 GMC Stepside and 1972 Chevy Fleetside. There were a few details I didn't get quite right, but this was just a quick build so I'm not worried about it.
  15. Sorry about the lack of progress guys. I've been working on my 1:1 truck every day.
  16. Got the turbo in the mail so I will be starting work on the engine.
  17. I have been gathering reference pics of 7.3 powerstroke engines and believe i can replicate one. Right now Im waiting on a turbo to arrive in the mail. Once it gets here I will start on the engine.
  18. Amazing work Bill.
  19. Got the body primered but it still needs a little more work.
  20. Thanks Gluhead. I've nearly got the cab finished, just need to do a little more smoothing.
  21. And that's why Im going to convert the engine to a diesel. I believe it can be done by simply running a turbo setup and modifying the fuel and electrical systems to resemble that of a diesel. I guess we will see if it works.
