  1. Thanks for the offer Tom, I think the cab is nearly complete though. I'm still working on smoothing everything out and should have pictures tonight if all goes well.
  2. Thank you all for the continuing support, it really helps knowing you're all here for me.
  3. If you don't want to spend money, try making one. Doesn't look too hard:http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=52279&hl=%2Bcowl+%2Bhood
  4. The Revell '37 Ford pickup has those.
  5. Not necessarily. A resin body is good if you don't want to do the work of chopping the top or modding the body. When someone chops a car body or does some other mods, they will make a copy of the body in resin and sell it. Or if there is a rare part that someone wants to copy, they will make a mold of it and cast it in resin. As a matter of fact, resin bodies are bad to do mods on from what I understand. I've never used a resin body, but I've heard that they are more brittle than kit bodies.
  6. Wow, you have convinced me to buy one of these. This is quite impressive, I know I won't be able to do as great of a job as you did.
  7. If I can't get the airbrushing down, I'll try your idea. I didn't get much done today, but I did start work on the trim. I decided to use rolled-up putty instead of half rod styrene since I would have to order it online. So far it's working fine, I just have to wait for it to dry so I can start smoothing it out.
  8. Resin is merely the material in which the parts are cast. With a resin body, yes, you do need a donor kit of a similar vehicle. Sometimes, you can find whole resin kits, but they are typically expensive. Resin parts are just copies basically. Parts are cast from resin because it does not have to be melted like styrene does.
  9. That looks pretty sweet. All the little details like the engine wiring and chain makes it really stand out.
  10. Thanks Shane. Got the cab as far done as possible. I've never been too great at bodywork, so it's not perfect. Also extended the frame and steps, or whatever those are called. I still need to modify the frame more to make everything fit. I was unable to find any spray paint in close color to this so I guess I'm gonna have to learn how to use an airbrush and hope there is some paint left over from the truck.
  11. Cool, I need to try that some time.
  12. What did you do for the flames? Did you mask off the flames and clear the rest of the body? It looks pretty sweet.
  13. Started chopping up the cab and got this far last night: Then this morning I started filling in the gap with strip styrene: This is where it stands so far. I will keep working on it and hopefully get the cab finished today assuming nothing gets messed up. And so everybody knows, this thread will mostly be dedicated to the model build, but I will be including updates on the 1:1 once I start working on it.
  14. Thanks, I just hope I can pull off the extended cab, it's the first one I've done.
  15. Yep, S10 frame and ol' 4.3 V6 carb'd with a big cam. My dad did everything on the truck from the engine to the paint. I just hope I can find a spray can that is close in color to this. I'm up here in Pendleton, we hold a car show every year. I'm hoping I can get the truck done for the next car show.
  16. Thank you all, I'm fortunate to have friends like you guys.
  17. Because of recent events, I have decided to halt all other projects and begin this one. I have been gathering parts for the last few months but have been waiting to start the model until the actual truck got finished. Obviously, that will not be happening for a while. My dad told me that I would get the truck if something ever happened to him, but I wasn't expecting it to be this soon. I do not know if I will end up getting the truck after all is said and done, but if I do, I plan on finishing where he left off. It will be built as a memorial to my dad and grandpa who started working on the truck many years ago. I have a Syclone, Waverider S10, and '37 Ford Pickup that will be used for this project. I don't have the best pictures of the truck, these were all taken by my dad with his cellphone. I do not have any pictures of the truck before the cab was extended. I will begin on extending the cab tomorrow but it may take a while because this will be the first time.
  18. Thank you all for the support, it means alot to me.
  19. http://www.wthr.com/...ng-in-pendleton Last night Jim Kenneth Bailey fired shots on Water Street in Pendleton, IN. Two police officers were injured by the man and a police K9 was killed. Also, an innocent civilian was shot and killed while driving down the road. He was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Bailey was later found dead of a self-inflicted shot after a 7 hour man hunt. That innocent man who was shot last night was my father. Right now, my family is trying to deal with the loss of someone so near and dear to our hearts. All I ask is that you keep my family in your thoughts and prayers in this difficult time. I will not let this negatively affect my life, that's not what he would have wanted. I will probably not be modeling too much for a while as I try to deal with the problems in my life. I will also be working on his 1937 Ford Pickup. When it's finished, the truck will be dedicated in loving memory to my father and grandfather who both have worked on this truck. Thank you all for taking the time to read this, and please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
  20. Man, that's lookin sharp. Can't wait to see what you do for the paint.
  21. Thanks, this is probably one of my favorite vehicles and I was lucky to find the kit. I really wish it would be reissued so I can get another. Thanks for the kind words Chuck.
  22. Not sure if you know yet, but you can use o-rings for the airbags. I got a 10 pack the other day for $2. They are 9/32" outer diameter, 5/32" inner diameter, and 1/16" thickness. They look pretty real: And as for the frame, I found these tutorials: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=42482&hl=frame http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=42483&hl=frame Good luck with the build.
  23. That's why smaller, newer companies charge so much for their kits. But bigger companies like Revell have already sold enough kits to make up for their start up cost. That's why kits don't need to be as expensive as they are. They should actually get cheaper as they go along, but the model companies are taking advantage of the fact that we are willing to spend as much as we do. It doesn't help that there are fewer and fewer modelers out there to buy the kits.
