1980's Toyota Celica-Supra WIP *engine bay/firewall detailed!*
brodie_83 replied to brodie_83's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Good call! So I uploaded all the other pictures I took, plus a few I just took while I was doing the ignition wires. I finished clearing the hood, firewall and rear bumper. I started painting the body with one mist coat, going to go downstairs and put down the 2nd coat. Here's what I have so far... Roof in primer: Firewall and rear bumper in primer: Rear bumper: -

I'm starting back to the beginning on the body/hood/rear bumper/firewall. The firewall I completely forgot to paint, so that's included in the re-spray. I also forgot about the moonroof cover, so I glued that to the roof, and took a lot of the roof down to the plastic. I already primed everything, but I just primed the roof of the car, the rear bumper and the firewall. The hood I just scuffed and painted. The first coat of paint went on the hood, firewall and bumper. I'm not going to paint the body yet...I'm going to wait for primer to completely cure and sand it down, apply one more coat of primer, then paint the body. I'll get everything else painted/cleared today though. Primed: I'll get some painted/cleared pics up later. -

I also found someone that is going to trade me my Fujimi Celica 2.8GT "High Mechanism" kit for another MPC Supra kit so I can make a replica of my 1:1 Celica GT-S with some modifications. I'll have to build a front bumper from scratch and remove the Supra headlights, and I got someone to make me an 22R-E engine/trans, so it should be a fairly simple custom build. -

Yeah, I plan on getting 1200, 1500 and 2000. That should be enough with some good polish after sanding. -

I'm going to have to respray the hood anyhow, so I might as well do the roof too. I tried wet sanding the hood today...problem is, I only had 800 grit and I went through to the plastic on the very back of the hood. C r a p... -
I absolutely LOVE the color of those cars! Great job and an awesome replica of your brother's '72!

I'm actually saving the turbo parts for a future build...sorry. If I find another kit, I'll part with one of the turbo parts from one of the kits. Well it's been awhile since I did an update (still trying to figure out what I want to do with the roof of the car, and waiting on parts). The Parts Box parts finally showed up and they look great! I'm going to finish the engine with the wired distributor and such, and hopefully finish the body. I'd like to be done with this build this weekend, but we'll see. I'm going to start working on it again in a few minutes, so I'll be updating this later. -
One this I'm picking out on this build...you shouldn't use a black permanent marker to black things out because they give off a "purple" hue that looks terrible. Other than that, the build is looking good! I for one like the Centerline wheels, but the GTA wheels look good as well. Keep it up!

Eh, it's already cleared and everything...I think I'm just gonna leave the roof. Won't be able to see it unless you're playing with the ###### thing. LoL it's the first mishap of the entire kit, which is a miracle! Now I have to get a polishing kit and sand the clear down to get rid of the rough looking clear finish. I washed the model with dish soap and water, air dryed it, then used all Duplicolor products on the body/bumpers...primer, color and clear. I thought it was a safe bet, but apparently I was wrong. I'll have to do the Future coat before priming next time. -

Oh I'm going to...I already made a "WANTED" post. I'd love to build another one with a 22R-E engine/trans (which I already found and will order) and a scratch-built Celica front bumper. As far as this build goes, I'm still waiting for my package from "The Toy Box" and I have to buy a polishing kit for the paint. I don't know if I really care to fix the roof...I'll post a few pics of what happened. -
Simply astonishing! Great job! Looking forward to your next build sir!

Because I wanted to build this stock, plain and simple. Now that I bought my '85 Celica, I wish I would have thought different about being stock. I have some plans for my 1:1 car that I'd like to test on a model to see if I like it or not. -

Thanks! I like realism Well I got the body/bumpers/hood painted and cleared. One thing I'm a little upset about is that the roof had one of those lines through the plastic when it was cast and it showed where it is through the paint. Dang it anyhow! Oh well...when the clear cures, I plan on wetsanding it and polishing it out so it'll look alright. Then I'll have to paint the flat black on the side mouldings and the bumper and whatnot. I didn't get any great pics (my camera died) so I'll have to post pics tomorrow. At least I got some progress done and on my way to finishing this thing! Oh yeah, and the distributor is finally on it's way from The Toy Box. -

Oh, and I'm about to go start on the body. Not sure if I'm going to try the Future method for primer or not...I bought the Duplicolor primer, so I might as well use it. Pics up in a bit! -

Alright guys, sorry I haven't updated this...mostly because I haven't done any updates on the kit. I've been preoccupied with a new purchase...a 1:1 1985 Toyota Celica GT-S with 120K miles and rust free! Bought it for $2250 locally and she's a bad-a$$ machine! 22R-E 4cyl with 5-speed manual and clean as can be (besides the odd dents and dings around the car). Here's what I got last Sunday: -
Wow, incredible details to the engine, interior and chassis! I love the wired firewall as well. Great build, and glad you stuck with the 455...love the air cleaners on them!
-
The GN is a great first kit...they fit pretty decent. Only thing I remember having issues with is the chassis on the body/interior tub, but I got it quickly without too much trouble. Looks good so far!
-
Wow...that is kinda a neat looking kit! I wish they made a kit of an 88-90 Cavalier Z24. It was my very first car and still wish I had it. Thing was gorgeous and decently quick. Good luck with the build! I'll be watching you...I mean the build

Thanks Ken! I actually wanted to do a key in the ignition...but funny thing...the car didn't have an ignition on the steering column! Bummer...oh well. Today I'll most likely get the car in paint...after I get back from garage saling. -

Thanks Bill! Means a lot coming from Mr. Obsessive! I have a few q's for ya...I'll PM ya. Needs some tips on painting bodies and such. -
I always use Testors Metalizer "Aluminum Plate". It's a buffing paint, so you spray it on and it comes out dull like aluminum, but take a piece of toilet paper or facial tissue and rub the paint after it dries, it gives a "polished aluminum" look. I use this all the time on exhaust. I leave the dull look on the piping and polish on the mufflers to make them look like Magnaflow stainless steel polished mufflers. Works awesome! Unfortunately I don't have any pictures, but if you try it, you won't be disappointed. They have all sorts of different colors. http://www.testors.com/category/145623/Metalizer_Enamel_Paint

Naw, I got one from an old Integra model that I'm never gonna build. Thanks though! The Integra shifter looks great and right at home Well the interior is finally finished (minus gluing the dash in place) so now I guess I get to move onto the body. Here's the interior pics... New Integra shifter: -
I realized you're the same one who did the Italiavette and the other weird looking 'Vette...both are impressive. I have faith in you!
