1980's Toyota Celica-Supra WIP *engine bay/firewall detailed!*
brodie_83 replied to brodie_83's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Well I got one side of the doors/rear panels done, as well as the rear seat cushions and the seat belts all black. I really like how it came out. I think the lighter gray could be a little darker, but overall I'm happy with the results. I also gave the heel pads on the floor a semi-gloss clear to make them look more like vinyl. Thanks for looking! -

I took a trip to Hobbytown and picked up some Tamiya flat light gray paint and some clear styrene sheets for making my own windows. I'm gonna get to work on the seats here soon, so I might be posting some pics up later. -

Thanks! Well I just got back from my girlfriend's house, replacing the brakes on my Dynasty...ugh...so back to the model. Right now I'm assembling the frame and suspension and waiting for the glue to dry. Then back to the interior. I have to find my filler so I can fill the seams on the front seats and paint them. If not, I'll just have to move to something else like the dash. I also got my girlfriend into building a model. She's obsessed with El Caminos (she has a '79 Royal Knight clone) so she's going to build a '65 I believe. I showed her my interior tub all flocked and she got excited to build a model. LoL -

Thanks Joe! I was surprised as all hell that it came out that good! Flocking this kit is a must for the die-hard detailer. I went downstairs and painted the luggage straps semi-gloss black with a flat clear (didn't have flat black) and added a semi-gloss clear to the heel pads on the floor to simulate vinyl. It looks pretty good. I'm going to have to wait for the 2-tone interior because I don't have any gray, so I'll have to go pick some up this week sometime. I wish I could trade all of my Testors paints for Tamiya. I love their stuff! Very decent coverage for acrylic and dries very fast. I hate how long you have to wait for enamel paint to dry. I do like the Testors Lacquer Clears though...they dry very fast and can coat over acrylic with no issues. -

The last picture is what I used for flocking. The small brush I used for getting around the details in the luggage area, the longer brush is what I did for the majority of spreading the clear enamel, and the fan brush was used for brushing away the stray flocking from the tub. I'm so ecstatic on how it came out! I've never done a flocking job this detailed before. Now I'm trying to figure out what other color I should do on the doors/seats. I'm thinking a lighter shade of gray... -

Alright, so I got home from my father's b-day party and had an itch to flock the interior. Well, an hour and a half later, here's what I got. I'm very pleased with it! -
Bump for this topic...I just tried this on my 80's Supra with the exception of Testors Lacquer Clear Flat Enamel and it worked splendidly! It probably took me a good hour or more to get it done (details in the luggage area with a small brush) but it was well worth it. Thanks for the awesome tutorial!

Tamiya has a kit? I've never seen a kit from them of a Celica-Supra. Also, the MPC wheels have the ribs between the spokes. -

Well I got some progress done...not much, but I got the engine totally done (besides the distributor, which is on it's way) and I painted the frame/suspension pieces and I sprayed the interior tub, then detailed the little things like seat belts and the rear luggage harness loops. The part I'm really happy with is the exhaust manifold. I used Testors silver on it and just globbed it on with a wide brush, and it gave a very realistic finish to the heat shield to make it look like brushed aluminum. I've got my father's birthday party to go to tomorrow, so I don't think much will get done. Sunday will be a different story...anyways, on to the pictures: -

I know! I'm excited to build it! So I went down to Advance Auto Parts and picked my colors for the car. I got Duplicolor GM Gunmetal metallic for the body, Duplicolor Charcoal Gray Vinyl & Fabric paint for the interior, and Duplicolor Flat Black Vinyl & Fabric paint for the chassis and suspension. I'm gonna get back to work on this in a few minutes, so expect an update before the night falls. -

Joe, thanks a ton! I got the part in the mail today, as well as another Celica kit that's pretty rare. It's from Fujimi and it's a Celica 2.8GT "High Mechanism" kit. The cool thing about this kit is it's got an engine/trans and not a curbside! The actual car's detail is very lacking, but I have to say, the engine is very well detailed...much more so than the MPC kit I'm currently building. Here's a few pics of that kit (which will be built sometime later after the MPC kit is built): Box art Metal "exhaust tip"...nice. Fujimi body vs. MPC body Fujimi wheels and nicely detailed Pirelli tires Open lug holes! So cool! And the part that I lost and that Joe sent me...thanks again dude! Now I can get back to work on the kit. I'm going to run to Advance Auto Parts and get a can of Duplicolor black for the chassis/suspension and maybe get the engine mounted in today. Then I have to decide what colors I want to do my interior in. I bought some light gray and charcoal flocking from the local hobby store. I really like the charcoal color, so I may go with that. Anyways, hope to have some more progress pics up later today! -
I love this! My dad had a '72 in a color very similar to that, but a lighter shade. White 'vert top with white interior, chrome-vented hood and wire wheels. The car was gorgeous! What kit is this? The '72 Cutlass kit I saw looked like it had the W-30 hood. Does that kit come with both flat and W-30 hoods?

Interesting color combo in the interior. Makes it kinda look like an '84 GN. I like it! I had a 1:1 '87 GN back in 2003 and they are a blast to drive!

I almost picked this kit up at the local Hobbytown store, but I passed and bought a Revell '70 Chevelle instead. It was pretty tempting though! Looks like it's a good kit...yours looks fantastic in all black!

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but I have this kit and a 1991 GTP kit as well and this one is very different but very cool. I haven't seen man of these kits built so I was curious. Great job!

Sorry Joe..."JOE sent me the part I need". Thanks buddy! I absolutely love those wheels you have on yours...I was thinking about those same ones, but I'm gonna build this completely stock. When I get my Fujimi kit, I'll probably do the 2JZ swap and a few other things (seats, wheels, suspension, etc.). -

Yeah, so far it's a fairly simple build with some good detail (one of a few that I've seen with seatbelts molded in the rear seats). I definitely recommend this kit. -
######...suck-o. I wanted to see this thing built! Bummer.

I do have a 2JZ from a Tamiya Supra, but I think I'll save that for another kit. Thankfully a guy on here said he has the part I lost and I can have it due to an LS swap in his, so as soon as this part shows up, it's on! Till then, it's on hold. -
Looks good! I have this kit somewhere...I didn't like that the wheels/tires are smaller than the 1:1 scale. Other than that, the kit looked pretty good. Pretty cool that you're making a vert out of it. Good luck!

Alright, I'm a little angry...I washed off a few parts that I de-chromed and accidentally dropped the upper intake manifold into the drain! SOB! I'm not sure what I'm going to do now...probably have to scratch-build one unless someone here has one they don't plan on using...in that case, I'll take it off your hands! I glued the seats together and need to get some filler to make them seamless, then paint. All I can do now is move on to something different. -
Love the '70 Bee's! You did a fantastic job at restoring this kit!

Wow, impressive...and a very cool concept! I love the engine detail! Those intake hoses look so realistic!
