  1. The tubs are roughed out. First I made one long tube, fit it to the interior tub and then trimmed it to fit the body. Then I cut two side pieces to the tube, cemented them in place, then cut out the center section.
  2. Not sure where I'm going with this, but I'm definitely going somewhere.
  3. I had thought of using the Rivvy lights, but decided against it in the end. I got a little work done on the interior tub, at least it's not flopping all over the place now. The wheel tubs are next.
  4. It's now a hatchback. I made a frame for the back window and cut the body along the window trim line and down the trunk. I cut the back out of the interior tub and made new sides for the rear hatch section. I need to figure out the rear suspension, before I can do the rear floor for the interior. I also cut out the hood and started on a firewall.
  5. Why would we need a smaller back window?
  6. A little more work, the grille openings are boxed in and I'm working on some projector beam headlight housings. I'm not sold on the lights yet, and yes, I know one side is drilled crooked. I'm also trying to figure out the bottom body line. I like what I have on the front, the back needs some work. This is after the first round of filler.
  7. The driveshaft tunnel is in and the engine is getting some attention. I had to drop the engine to clear the hood, it tucks in nicely.
  8. Yes, there is a slight and intentional wedge chop to match the wedge section of the body. One of the vent window uprights has already broken off, but I'm putting it back on. The remaining one is vertical and the window tapers at the top, how could it not work? As for the windshield, the one from the donor was toast along with the cowl. I'm currently looking for new donor pieces. So the windshield won't be huge. I do think I might have to shorten the body a bit once the windshield goes in as it will make for a really wide cowl.
  9. Strip the wire from some small gauge insulated wire and you have some tiny airlines.

  12. The fit is good, finished the other tub and made a filler panel from the fireball to the Elky body, The tailights have also been filled. Filler pieces for the trailing edge of the roof. These will need a while to dry before I can sand them. Time to cut up a chassis and work on some suspension. first up hack off the back half. For a rear I found another gluebomb piece from an Olds. I cut the trailing arms of along with the axle tubes. New tubes are made from 1/8" Evergreen tube. I repositioned the trailing arms and gave it a test fit. I used a 1/2" tube, cut in half for a tunnel to clear the rear. Here's how she sits as of now.
  13. I'm stalled on the 442 Monkee Mobile, until some parts come in, so instead of being smart and finishing one of my other shelved builds, I just had to cut up a new acquisition. First step do something about that nose heavy look, a 1/4" wedge section should take care of that. Much better! Now sometimes my imagination does stupid things. For some reason I thought turning the nose upside down would be sleeker looking, boy was I wrong! I wouldn't even take a pic of it. Glue the nose back on how it belongs. Other than I wanted something different, and I thought the windshields and trailing body work would be cool on another project, I had no reason to remove them. Off with the top of the body. I put a roof from a 58 T-bird station wagon I'm building and loved how it looked. I didn't really want another longroof project, plus I had no donor roofs. What to do? Then it hit me,,,,,,,,,,,, El Camino! I have this horrible glue bomb 65 Elky laying around, time to cut. Now this has potential! Lets clean things up a bit. The cut down interior tub. The chassis is going to need a LOT of work. Some marks for cutting. The front inner wheel wells are put to use as tubs for the rear. I had to make a new front bulkhead as the plastic on the one from the Elky was melted from so much glue. .010x .060 strips were used for the ribs. The top of the tailgate section has been shaped to fit the Fireball body. A test fit before moving on.

  16. Your two seater came out great Jim! It might be just enough inspiration to get back to work on my 4 seater T'rantula.
  17. I got some primer on most of the body, I left the nose bare as I will be redoing the headlights. Threw the taillight lenses on to get an idea of how it will look.
  18. The license plate box is gone and I continued the center design to the roll pan. A much cleaner look.
  19. This thing still just falls together. I looked at the the pocket where the chute fits and decided to fill it in, in hope that would be just enough of a styling point and match the overall design of the car. I layered some strips to get the contour, Sanded it to shape, and then added a strip of half round to the top.
  20. A little more work, I filled the exhaust outlets and built up the area leading into the chute pocket.
  21. This build has a name, Quicksilver, so far it has flowed together effortlessly. This will also be a tribute to another fallen friend. My friend Pete had me pinstripe, letter and do graphics on everything he owned, Cars, trucks, boats, snowmobiles, excavating equipment, kitchen cabinets, and yes even his last ride, a casket. All of Pete's fun stuff was painted silver and blue and named Quicksilver. So this one's for Pete. Closing the hood would entail a lot of work, the area front to back of the engine compartment drops about 1/4" at least. I would have to slope it, and I doubt that would look good, or raise the grill, again I don't see it looking good. I will play off the engine opening to make some kind of cool looking induction system. Something like the one on the Sillhouette I did. I'll go check out the Merc.
  22. This is gonna be SWEET! I had my doubts of the dark lace on that base color, but once you said you were laying candy on it I saw where you are heading. I can't wait to see this progress. BTW, that lace work looks excellent.

  24. Thanks guys. I honestly don't see how a boat tail could be incorporated into this roof. I think the beauty of this merge is the body line from the 442 that comes off the back window and becomes the peaks on the quarters blends perfectly into the peaks of the MM. Wow, that was a long sentence! What I might do is subtly extend the pocket the chute sits in upwards into the trunk about half way to the window.
  25. A nose job to keep things in perspective. Laying out the cut, I'll take 3/16" out of it. Off she comes! The results.
