  1. Hi Guy's & thanks for the welcome, Ray, The base your refuring to is in fact a turntable/stand used for iceing & decorating cakes. I use it alot for both painting & building, it allows me to turn the model without touching it. The turntable I have is about 6 inches tall, when on the bench (which is taller than the average table) I find this to be at a good working hight. Its big enough around to take a truck or a trailor with the landing legs down It was also cheep, about £8 in a local kitchen shop.
  2. Johnny (rottin 1) & everyone else, Sorry guys theres been no progress on the KW. Ive been in Hospital again. Without wishing to repete myself the reasons for my Hospital stay are explained in my "Spidermike" post. I'm iching to get on with the KW, maybe soon ahe.
  3. Ferren, I've been using KFS stacks for several years now, they are great. The photo etch is quite thick & can be tricky to roll but once you've got the hang of it its easy. Personaly, I would'nt use anything else now. Howard also stocks (I hope he still does cus I've run out) photo etch working, yeah working !, stack rain covers.
  4. I've been following this build & am mightly imperssed with it. Thats some paint job, well done. Take care when painting in your shed johnny, if you forget to remove the heater before you spray you'd make an explosion so big we'd hear it here in the UK
  5. Flameing heck !!! I wish I could paint like that, outstanding.
  6. Very nice indeed. A realy good take on the old Ford kit. Is there anything you cant turn into a fire truck ? True craftmanship.
  7. Tim, Ray, Aaron,& Dave. & to all those kind folk who took the trouble to send a personal message. My sinsere thanks. I'm doing ok, had a little relaps but nothing too major. Ray, your signature made me smile, "Hard times dont last, Truckers do", well how true is that ! Dam right, life aint all up hill in the crawler box, when ya get to the top of the hill called "hard", engage the Georgia overdrive & let the ol gal have her head, sit back & enjoy the ride. The KW is coming along slowly, I hav'nt done too much more, I'm finding it difficult to concentrate. I'll post some more pic when there's somthing to show.
  8. I'm a sucker for a well weathered model & you've got this one spot on. Excellent craftmanship & talent in spades. Looking forward to see'in some more.
  9. Aaron, The tyre chains are scratch built from chain available from KFS, but I guess any scale chain will do. I could write a short "how I built" piece if you like. Alternatively KFS sell an excellent snow chain kit with etch nickle lockers with full building instructions.
  10. Thanks Guys, I mixed rust coloured paint & talc powder to paint the turbo's, when dry this gave the texture I wanted. I then used dark & rust coloured washes & a light coloured dry brushing to bring out the high lights & to give that pale, hot look. I kept the "hot look" away from the air (cool) side of the turbo for a more defined look. The wheels are resin spiders from K.F.S with super singles on the front. Stacks are K.F.S ally mufflers & etch nickle shields. Shields are tricky to roll but well worth the effort. Scratch built snow chains & tank hangers. My idea is to build a trans mountain tractor equiped to cope with the rough mountain roads of the Northern States in the 70s. I hope I'm succeding. Many thanks for your kind words.
  11. Hi Guys, I have seen some fantastic models posted here & quite frankly am in awe of the quality of craftmanship. My Wife has persuaded me to post a few of my "work in progress" shots of the K-wopper I'm building. I started the build late last year, did some painting & weathering over the Christmas holidays, will do a bit more soon I hope. I would like to hear any comments, good & bad, I can learn from both. The frame with most of the weathering done A little more weathering required on the pipe work I think Cab is taped togeather & resting on the frame Main cab parts painted, an old rad grill taped in to give some rigidity. Thanks for looking
  12. Tim, I have Crohns disease to which there is no cure except intensive hospital treatment, surgery & the hope for remission. Its a progressive illness that comes with all the baggage you'd expect but at the tender age  of 46 I have no intention of it getting the better of me ! So, yeah I'm alot better than I was, thanks for askin, just gota my strenght back & get fit for the summer. I'm the secratery to my local model club (I.P.M.S. North Somerset) & help to run the model show which is on 17th March. 35 clubs & 27 traiders will be attending & I want to be fit enough to go myself. I look forward to talking to other modellers, exchanging ideas & the like, so I'll proberly be gooffing around drinking tea & beating me gums all day

Of all the "Convoy" trucks Spider Mike's is the one that I think will give me the most headache's. It'll be nice to put them in a dio......think I'm go.na need a bigger house though

  16. Dave, Thanks for the info, I,ve just realised that I miss spelt Spider's handle. Dohe! Its not easy to get a good look at the truck on video. Maybe if I get the film on DVD I can run it frame by frame on the PC. I've got the VC running the film as i type this.......You could well be right...it does look like a Reo. Cheers.
  17. Fantastic work ! Am lovin the Vette & Tona but what is the other car. We dont get many like that in the U.K.
  18. A little help here please guys. I've been collecting kits & parts to build some of the trucks from the film Convoy. I've got a few now & am starting to builb them up. Trouble is I can't identify the tractor that Spidermike drives. I think its a Pete but I'm not sure. A source for the parts needed to build it would be great too. Thanks for your time.
  19. Hi Guys from here in the sunny south west of England. Forgive my ramblings as I'm new to the forum. I've been building models since I was a kid in the `60s. Trucks are my primary subject but I like building other subjects too. I've purchsed many great kits and accessories from Guys in the States &, hand on heart have always had good service. In return I thought I'd recomend to you a company here in the U.K. that also prides its self on its service, its called Kit Form Service (KFS). They do amazing resin transkits of American C.O.E.`s as well as European & Aussie trucks. plus loads of great truck accessories too. Here's the link:- http://www.kitformservices.com
