Thanks for all your input, guys! I'm checking into the various sources to see what I'll find. You guys have definitely given me some good suggestions. BTW, here's a picture (a very bad picture) of what I'm talking about...something pretty much along these lines. Definitely a "home-made" car, from the early days of drag racing.

I have this idea to build a version of the Big T as a low budget, "built in the backyard" type early rail...maybe something circa 1960 or so. I plan to extend the wheelbase, maybe move the bodyshell back, add a roll cage, central drivers seat, etc. What I'm after is a bare-bones, unsponsored car...something that literally would have been built by a guy and his buddies in their garage for as little cash as possible, and raced on the weekends. A car somewhat like the original "Mooneyes" dragster, but on a much cheaper and much more amateur level. So far all I've managed to find online are a couple of fuzzy photos of a car similar to what I envision. If anyone out there knows what I'm talking about, or has a good reference source, a site where I can get photos, or any other help, I'd really appreciate being pointed in the right direction. Thanks!

I'm no fan of tuners either, but I hafta admit these two are very tastefully done. Nice job on both! The colors are great...I especially like that Mica blue. BTW...looks like they have about a 20 car garage to park in! :wink:

You can get the same effect without the hazard to your health. Go to any art or crafts store and buy a small set of pastels. There will be several colors included...just scrape off some of the pastel stick with an X-acto blade to create pastel dust, which can be used exactly the same way that cigarette ashes can...but no emphysema! :wink:

Mighty impressive work there! I'm not a big fan of these types of cars, but fan or not, your skill is obvious. I wonder what you could do with a large scale model??? :wink:

Another great place to check is the jewelry making aisles of Hobby Lobby (or similar type store). Tons of little doodads and gadgets, beads, hardware, lengths of chain and braided wire, etc. etc., and generally each product is sold in a little bag for just a buck or two tops! For instance, I found nylon braided line (for stringing beads) that, when painted with good old Testor's silver, looks exactly like scale braided line...at a cost of a few pennies per model. A bag of assorted size doll "google eyes" can be used to make eveything from headlight buckets to hubcaps. There's a lot of stuff to be found there!

You can also dye the kit glass with RIT fabric dye. The advantage is that you're actually tinting the plastic itself, instead of spraying color on the surface...so you'll never get any dust specks or other imperfections in your tinted glass.

I like that a lot. It really says "Firebird". I especially like the chrome bumper...a little "retro" touch looks just right!

The back half of yours looks a lot like a Challenger...but then again, the back half of mine looks like a Mustang...

Here ya go...a quick idea, not too much time spent on it, but I think it could work! Obviously based on the Mustang platform...I lengthened the Mustang's wheelbase and gave it styling cues from the classic late 60s Cougar. I left the Mustang wheels on it, though...I think they work pretty well on my "Cougar". Slightly thicker C pillar...
