  2. The Hollies doing a fantastic version of Procol Harum's "Whiter Shade of Pale"...
  3. Linda Ronstdt was the Queen of the Cover. All of "her' big hits were covers... Poor, Poor Pitiful Me... I Can't Let Go... It's So Easy (to fall in love)... Silver Threads and Golden Needles... You're No Good... When Will I Be Loved... Love is a Rose...Heat Wave...That'll Be the Day...Carmelita... and on and on and on. All covers.
  4. Apparently you don't understand the difference between looking at a photo on a computer screen and looking at that same photo in a printed magazine, I don't want to get too technical and lose you, but seeing a digital photo online and seeing that same photo on a printed page is not comparing apples and oranges, but comparing apples and pencil sharpeners. The way color is reproduced digitally (like seeing a photo on a computer screen or a digital camera's viewfinder) is completely different than the way color is reproduced in print. Like I said, I don't want to bore you with the technical details, but if you want a full-blown, detailed explanation of why a photo may look different on a computer screen vs. a printed paper page, PM me.
  5. I saw that model on the internet but didn't have the guts to pull the trigger on that price! Beautiful work! Amazing! How cool is it to see a large scale model of a car that you would never expect to see in model form!
  6. One of the reasons the "good enough" philosophy seems to have taken hold among many of the domestic kit manufacturers is partly our own fault. Car modelers are cheap SOBs. How many times have I read posts here about how someone would never spend more than $10-20 on a kit? Answer: many times! They complain about the cost of a kit at $25, and the model manufacturers know that most of their customers are very price-sensitive... so in order to keep the retail price of a new kit low enough to not upset the cheapskates, certain compromises must be made. Time is money, and the less time the manufacturer spends on creating that new kit, the less they can sell it for and still make a few bucks profit. I'm pretty sure that every American model car manufacturer could turn out better kits if they could do their work without being constrained to meeting a certain price point, and were allowed to do what it takes to make an accurate kit and let the MSRP be what is has to be to reflect that amount of work. Maybe it's unfair to call car modelers "cheap." Let's say they're "price-conscious." And the reason for that, IMO, is that the vast majority of today's active model car builders are adult males in their 40s and beyond... the people who remember when a new model kit sold for two bucks. So to them, today's kits on the shelves with prices in the $20-30 range and beyond seem outrageous based on their recollections of what a kit used to cost. So remember... if you are unwilling to pay the price for an accurate kit, don't expect to get an accurate kit.
  7. This week's car is a 1959-65 Hongqi CA72 (with the ultr-rare optional all-terrain parking brake system)... And seeing as how it looks like the car is actually on a street that's sloping uphill, the fact that the front wheels are locked to keep the car from rolling is even more amazing... 8. I just copy the url showing at the top of my browser window and paste it here. Works for me...
  9. This used to be one of my favorite Rod Stewart songs... until I found out it's actually a Cat Stevens song!
  10. "So goodbye, I'll be leaving... I see no sense in this crying and grieving. We'll both live a lot longer If you live without me"... Hint: Harpsichord solo...
  11. No way will a truck be within 12 inches of the vehicle ahead of it. No way. Not under any conditions, not under any circumstance other than imminent collision,
  12. Extra credit: Who was the "guest vocalist" on that track?
  13. Even trained stunt drivers would have a hard time keeping less than 12 inches between them at highway speeds. In the real world, it just doesn't happen.
  14. Tom, you sound like you're doing your best to justify the "it's good enough" mentality. Are you suggesting that today's "business model" doesn't allow for scale fidelity? Sure sounds to me like that's what you're saying. I think that's a pretty weak excuse for mediocrity.
  15. Wow! Not bad for a first car! Mine was a ten year old '67 Belvedere with the indestructible "Leaning Tower of Power" 225 slant six. I loved that car.
  16. You rarely see ballpoint pen used as an art medium. Nice work on both.
  17. Just a suggestion... skip Alclad altogether and get Spaz Stix in a spray can. I have never seen any spray paint come this close to actual chrome plated parts. Is it the same as kit plated parts? Not quite... but 95% there. And so simple and convenient in the spray can. I'm so glad I finally tried it. It's fantastic!
  18. "The apples of the valley hold the seeds of happiness. The ground is rich from tender care, repay, do not forget"...
  19. "Ahhh... caught you smiling at me, that's the way it should be, like a leaf is to a tree, so fine."
  20. No you haven't. Less than a foot between vehicles? Even the Blue Angels can't fly in that tight a formation. And if you have seen it... where exactly were you when you "saw it?"
  21. A pretty trippy version of REM's "The End of the World (as we know it)"...
  22. There's no way a truck in traffic will be less than a foot off someone's bumper. That doesn't happen.
