  1. Easy for you to say!
  2. Final vote was pretty lopsided: 43 REAL, 4 MODEL. You guys were right on this one... it's REAL! Scroll down: http://www.marque1.com/marque1/auctions/page/4/
  3. The answer is "I don't know much about art, but I know what I like!"
  4. That's exactly why most car kitmakers cut corners... because they know that 99% of the buyers will either never know the difference, or won't care. They figure it's better to cut corners and save money and maybe alienate a tiny, tiny handful of hardcore modelers, than to go the extra mile and spend the extra $$$ to make an accurate kit just to please a handful of detail-conscious builders. That sort of thinking doesn't cut it in the military kit world. Those guys demand accurate kits, they're willing to pay the price for accurate kits, and the manufacturers know it and respond in kind. Model car builders are, for the most part, not demanding when it comes to accuracy (except for a very small segment of buyers), and are not willing to pay premium prices. So we get what we ask for, basically. Or I should say, what the manufacturers know they can get away with and we will still gladly lap up, despite flaws, mistakes and inaccuracies.
  5. Saw on the news earlier tonight that Boston is supposed to get more than 30 inches!
  6. If I had control over it, the cover date would be accurate. Every time. And by your own admission, you never build any model stock or straight out of the box, so obviously accuracy or fidelity to the subject matter doesn't mean much to you! But not everyone approaches the hobby the same way that you do. To a lot of people, accuracy does matter, and they do expect a kit to have the details done right.
  7. We liked it so much that we put it into the December issue of Model Cars. Those Read brothers can build!
  8. But don't you question at all why a newly-tooled kit of a very specific car, not just a generic '32 Ford, has so many inaccuracies? I realize we're not talking about the fate of civilization here, but considering that this is a model car forum, you don't question that? At all?
  9. I will probably buy it... but I want to see the actual kit first, either in person or an online review. But the photos I've seen so far look very promising! And of course it's great to have Pocher back. I hope this kit is the first of many more to come.
  10. For LDO and anyone else unclear of the forum rule... Mentioning a new product here is perfectly ok. New products are talked about here all the time. In fact we have a big long thread going right now regarding the new Rat Roaster kit. What's against the rules is selling any product directly here on the forum. Example: OK: I hear the new Pocher kit will be a Lamborghini, it looks pretty cool. Not OK: I have the new Pocher kit for sale at $XXX, to order it from me, click here.
  11. That's one of the old Pocher kits, before they went out of business.
  12. You don't really want to aggravate the guy with his finger on the ban button, do you? (just kidding!)
  13. Careful Donn... just because you're a "styrene star" doesn't mean I won't "enhance" your picture in Photoshop!!!
  14. Sometimes I get the urge to yell at the neighborhood kids to get the hell off my lawn. Does that make me a cranky old man?
  15. We should be glad that Revell wasn't in charge of the space shuttle program...
  16. It's not Gregg's decision, it's the publisher's decision.
  17. Yeah, that was me. I figured better not to make waves. But since you saw my post and answered, well, waves made! But to get back to your comment about drawing in more casual modelers, Chuck... Since this is an all-new kit, wouldn't it have been just as easy to get it right than to get it wrong? Seriously... the excuses about why they cut this corner and that corner and why they left out this part and that part just doesn't make sense when you're talking about a new kit and not a re-release. Why not just make the freakin' thing right and satisfy both the "casual" modeler and the "lunatic fringe?"
  18. Go to carmax.com and type in your needs. Easiest way to see what's available that fits your specs and your price range. Asking here for people's recommendations is pointless. It's like asking other people what flavor ice cream should be your favorite. All you will get is a bunch of different people telling you what they think is the car you need... and in the end, you will have learned nothing. Ask ten people what car to buy, and you'll get ten different answers. How can that possibly make your decision any easier? In the end all the other people's opinions mean nothing, you still have to decide what it is that you want.

    What if...?

Your Photoshopped Ford almost looks like a Riviera.
  20. I would love to get my hands on a Bugatti. I've built the 1907 Fiat Grand Prix car, a couple of Alfas, a couple of Mercedes, and a couple of Rolls Royces... but I've never found a Bugatti for sale for a price I'm willing to pay. I've been looking for an affordable Bugatti for years now, but so far no luck.
