  1. Great job. Makes me want to finish up the '56 Nomad I started about 6 months ago.
  2. I received MCM issue # 165 in the mail yesterday... We'll call it The Chuck Most Issue, since he's got 2 articles in it. Congrats Chuck... Great article on the Hudson by the way. Makes me want to work on mine... I am in NO WAY picking any nits here... Just trying to be funny... but... The driver of the Hudson should take the Lake Pipe caps off since they are the only exhaust... and if so, it'd be a bit noisy too with no mufflers... Again, congrat Chuck on great articles.
  3. OK... forgot to answer the second part of the question. I like cars that have style.. and chrome.. Todays cars don't have either.
  4. I like cars from the 20's through the early 60's. Rods & Kustoms galore...
  5. Just for future reference....when you are trimming either the front or back clear plastic glass from the runners that connect them, don't use clippers or scissors... Use a razor saw to cut them apart. That way you won't crack either piece of glass that you want to save.. I learned this the hard way myself a long time ago.
  6. You mentioned that you were looking for wheel spyders... I believe that The Modelhaus makes those... You also said that you wanted a photo-etched grille for this '36... You can get that from Model Car Garage... Hope this helps.
  7. I started using Duplicolor paints and Primers about 10 years ago when I got tired of all the hassles with enamel spray paints. I've also used the Testor's One Coat paints with mixed results. My biggest hassle with painting is that I have to wait til the weather is good outside. My wife and daughter complain about the smells when and if I paint in the basement or garage. I don't use an airbrush and only use rattle can paints.
  8. I'm looking forward to the Chrysler 300 and the '50 Olds. I've got an Ecto 1 in my stash. The Orange Crate would be cool, but I'd probably just use the chopped sedan body for another Street Rod build.
  9. Guys, FYI just be careful when you're swapping those kit parts. The '40 Pickup is 1/24th scale and the Merc & the '32's are 1/25th scale. You "could" run into fit issues...
  10. You could try using different colors of earth tones (sand, wood, leather, browns)with a dry brushing technique. Or you could use wood veneer paper found in some cigar packaging. Or, you could use the woodgrain decals found in some woody kits.
  11. IMHO that's some of the dumbest looking stuff I think I've ever seen done to cars. To each his own I guess... whatever rots your socks, or floats your boat, or whatever... YUK...
  12. Absolutely Bart. I find that the high E guitar string is perfect for antenna's and the round wound D guitar string makes a great fuel line on a chassis, and also curb feelers. Even though I played Bass, I never thought of using Bass strings for radiator hoses... Great idea. I have used transmission seal springs and girls spring bracelets for radiator hoses... They sort of look like Cool-flex hoses.
  13. Well... You could make your own open wheelwells... Trace the outline of a tire where it lines up on the rear quarter... Make your own custom...
  14. And not to ruin this party here on this Thread......... But I haven't read anything about modeling here, or saw any model pictures.... LOL... Even the Moderator chimed in on it... Cool... Rock on "dudes"...
  15. I have a Fender Precision Bass and a Fender Bassman 100 Amp. Used to have a Fender Jazz Bass and an Ampeg SVT amp, but sold them a long time ago. I played in a bunch of different bar bands and garage bands from the late 60's thru 2000. Played mostly 60's & 70's Rock, Southern Rock, and I really love playing the Blues. I haven't played at all since June of 2000 when I had several TIA's or small strokes. I miss it a lot.
  16. My original thread was not intended to pick on or attack anyone. I just was interested to see how often other people come onto this Forum. Obviously some people come on more than others. I think I'll be starting a new project very soon as I'm feeling the urge again... I knew the doldrums wouldn't last long. I just have to pick the subject.
  17. Sorry, but that's one of the posts that I skipped over... IMHO I didn't feel that the subject had anything to do with modeling. You know what they say about Opinions & butt-holes...
  18. I come onto this Forum pretty much every day since I joined up, looking for some inspiration for my next build. I started to wonder if part of the reason that I'm experiencing the "modeling doldrums" is that between watching Speed Channel and Velocity Channel, and looking in here a couple of times a day, I'm really not leaving myself a lot of time to actually work on something. I've also noticed that while I think that I spend a lot of time on here, there are some people who seem to make it their job to post new Thread subjects, and, to make comments and/or suggestions on almost everyone else's Threads. (Not that there's really anything wrong with that...) I know that I am retired and have a lot more "free time" than probably most of the people on this site, but at least I sign out for most of the day. How often do you come on here, and, do you find that doing so cuts into your modeling time...???
  19. Great diorama... very realistic... Dynamite work on the truck... Love it...
  20. Hey Monty, can you do us older guys a favor and enlarge your FONT size A LOT so we can read your posts without using our Optivisors... Thanks buddy.
  21. It's good to know that I'm not the only one who goes thru this. I'm not into planes or military stuff (although I used to burn them and blow them up way back when...) and I'm certainly NOT into the Zombie thing... I DO frequent the Internet looking at different cars and I pick up Street Rodder and Custom Rodder now and then. It's just that lately nothing has "grabbed me". I know that this will eventually pass, as it always does. One of these days a light bulb will go on and I'll dive into something... Thanks for all the input and suggestions guys.
  22. I know that some guys might disagree with this, but, IMHO for your first few tries I would recommend that you pick up some pre-wired distributors available from an aftermarket supplier. Drill a hole in the engine where the distributor is located and glue in the trimmed stem of the pre-wired distributor. Then drill holes in the cylinder heads where the spark plugs would be located. You can strip the insulation from wire that is a size larger than the spark plug wire, cut a short length for the wire boot and insert the spark plug wire thru the boot leaving just enough wire sticking thru to glue into the hole you drilled in the cylinder heads. After the glue has set, try to drape the wires realistically over the valve covers. Look under the hood of your own car to see how the plug wires lay. For fuel lines in the engine compartment I use Radio Shack diodes which you can pick up at Radio Shack, getting a bunch in a package for a couple of bucks. The diode will look like an inline fuel filter. Drill a hole in the fuel pump and the fuel bowl on the carburator and bend and shape the diode wire to run from the pump to the carb. For older cars you can leave the diode as is, and for newer cars you can paint the diode with aluminum metalizer for a more modern look. Hope this helps you.
  23. You're right on this Harry. I wanna know if the DR. lays awake at night thinking of new threads to post......
  24. At the moment I have several WIP (don't we all) and a stack/stash of unbuilt kits. I have plenty of ideas for lots of different models floating around in my mind. I just don't feel like working on anything. It's not like I'm experiencing burnout after a long build, I just can't decide what to work on. Nothing is "grabbing my attention". I put together a snap kit to give to my grandson for his First Birthday, but even that didn't get me going to want to build something else FOR ME. I watch SPEED Channel and Velocity looking for ideas and/or inspiration.... I go on this FORUM a couple of times a day looking for ideas and/or inspiration.... I'm looking forward to going to NNL East in a couple of months, but at the rate I'm going I won't be bringing anything with me to put on the tables. Nothing has worked for the last several weeks, since the last project I WAS into wound up back in the box after 3 trips in the stripper. What do YOU GUYS do in cases like this...???
