  1. Finally making some headway on this one. This stuff makes me go cross-eyed! Trying to use restraint and just do enough detail to bring it to life. Spark plug wires were done a while back, so this round I'm tackling the carbs, stacks, throttle linkage and fuel lines. Those bits of orange holding the linkage together will get a little steel poked onto them...but I had to use a contrasting color of stretched sprue to be able to see what the heck I was doing. lol. The super-trendy clear red fuel lines are stretched taillight sprue. The black fittings are wire insulation and will get dabbed with gold. Stacks are just aluminum tubing, slice-cut and spin-polished with a little stop light red to give the whole thing another little kiss o' color.
  2. Thank you, Niko. Retainers are better now, I think. I can live with them, at least. I think it'll all come together under paint. This'll probably be the last update for a little bit. Time to go back and finish up the '41 Chevy and get some more done on the '27 C Cab...then I'll come back to this and dig into the other end of the chassis.
  3. Much appreciate, guys. Glad you all like it. I do have to admit that I'm pretty proud of this one, even as basic a build as it is. For a nearly 20 year old paint job, it sure has held up well. It's still one of my favorite colors in my collection. Gotta love real lacquer!
  4. Thanks, guys. I did the springs clamps yesterday, but I think I'll end up re-doing them. Just don't look quite right. I'll mess with 'em and see if I can get 'em in shape and post up tonight.
  5. That came out real nice. Not a style I've been into for a good many years, but I'd make an exception for that one.
  6. The AMT green street machine '57 is a work of art, compared to the flip nose. Just a great kit.
  7. Great job.
  8. Thanks guys. Bart, I've had an old issue L700 sitting here for years waiting for me to build it. It'll be interesting to see how this "little brother" version looks sitting next to it. Almost done with the rear suspension. A little cleaning up here and there and put the welds in...and now I see I forgot the retainers around the spring packs so I'll throw those at it, too.
  9. Thanks, guys. Andy, Brad (gasser59) sent me a chunk to experiment with. It's offcut from a used plate, so when I run out I'll be hitting up one of the local printers for more. I'm sure most printers would be more than willing, so you may want to check with one in your area. I'm a little slow on the updates right now...have had a hard time with pain the last few days. But, I've got the spring pads and shock mounts on the housing, and made a pair of shocks and mounting bosses for them on the frame. Pics only show one...I forgot to charge the second battery for the cam but the other one will be in there in the next set of pics. I'm going to try to finish the mountings for the u bolts tonight, then I'll go over the whole assembly with weld beads. I think you guys will like how I do them. First pic shows how I cut deep into the axle to install mounts, rather than shaping them to fit the housing. Not only are they easier to do, they're stronger. You can also see the backing plate and finned drum that'll I'm having my brother cast up. I'll use them on all four corners.
  10. Very nice work, Joseph! I'm definitely on the white resin side of the fence. Knocking the black off the letters works very well. I'd be a happy camper if the kit companies adopted this practice, too. I think a 275-60 would be great to have along with the 235. Again, nice, clean work. I look forward to seeing some cast and painted pieces mocked up on a car.
  11. First, I'm jealous. The AMT CJ5 (Daisy's, etc) does have a good bit of flash to clean up, but once you do it's actually a pretty nice kit. Looks like that might be what you have there for the chassis? Hard to tell from that pic. If it's resin copies of the same, I think I'd grab the AMT kit and just have at it, even if the roof is too low. Should build into a real nice model with a little effort. If you want to take a look, I've got build pics of my CJ5 on my fotki (link in sig).
  12. Thanks, guys. Brad - Yeah, that stuff is great. That's another reason I switched to this rather than get back to the '41 and the '27 right away; I wanted to get my feet wet on the plate because I'd like to use it to make the carb linkage on the '41 and mech brake brackets on the '27. A bit of practice on this will help a lot there, since those parts will be small and fiddly. Rob - I know what you mean...don't even get me started on the cars and trucks being segregated. lmao. It is what it is, but to me a model is a model and good workmanship is good workmanship. I'd just assume we had one bench forum and one glass forum.
  13. Yep, it's upside down. If you can swap it around without major surgery, I'd do it. If not, I won't tell if you don't.
  14. Thanks, guys.
  15. Nothing new to report for the moment, Brad...I'm playing musical projects with this one, the '41 Chevy, and the Dodge. Check that latter one out if you haven't. I'm putting some of that print plate to use.
  16. Thanks! I'll have to keep my eye out for a good deal on one.
  17. Wait, what? Pat, ya gotta let us see that Bedford.
  18. Thanks, guys. Glad you like it. While looking for something else, I noticed that I had an extra 8 3/4 3rd member. I'm terrible about robbing parts but have been trying to be better about it and just make stuff instead, if I can...but since this was genuinely an extra, I figured I had better use it. Besides that, I got the other half of the housing shaped up, and installed the tubing on the ends that matches up with the holes in the wheelbacks. It'll get brake drums and backing plates in a couple days (my brother is saving the day on these, and casting up a few that I did for another project), so for now it's on to making the spring pads, u bolts, and getting some shocks and mounts in there.
  19. Looks like a good start to me. As for how to build it, I'd just follow your gut and a couple reference pics from google. That's all I do.
