This is a pic of the disassembled model after several days in the Strip bath. This is what I mean by Totally Awesome Cleaner. Not only does it Strip the paint, it actually loosens parts from decades old Testors glue. From here I will sand and primer then make it like the box art, with one exception. The goofy wheels that came with the kit will be replaced with big sand rail wheels (rear from a 1/24 monster truck kit and front from a 1/24 auto kit)

Thanks much. I enjoy a challenge and I learn a lot with the hard ones. -

Thanks very much! I used a combination of the putty and Miliput clay. I like the Miliput because you can wet it and shape with your fingers. I’ll post when sanded. Got on a coat of Of flat white before the yellow. The hood came out pretty nice. That white shows I need a little more sanding over the fender louvers. -

Some initial sanding and putty work. The spoilers were fairly easy to cut off and sand. Had to put a thin backing of sheet styrene to build up the stock front wheel wells. -

I’d like to see that Ron -
I usually use a whole bottle, but now I think I can use half and half water and get the same result.

Making this straight Camaro for a buddy, another “high school car” project. The only kit I could find to use was the Monogram Midnight Z. Lots of cutting and putty work ahead.

After a 48 hour soak in Totally Awesome. It goes back in for another 48, then a toothpick to get in the nooks and crannies.

Try that Totally Awesome from Dollar Tree. $1 and it’s unbelievable!

Thanks! I thought about a big blown engine, but I think I’m just going to change out the lame wheels and paint it like the box cover. More to come...

Brake fluid is much too expensive and hard to dispose of. Here in the US, there’s a very cheap cleaner called Totally Awesome that I buy at the dollar store. Works better than anything I’ve ever used, including brake fluid and oven cleaner.

Wow thank you for the great feedback. Now I’m definitely dropping it into the strip bath and doing it right. I’ll have to make the surfboards. Thank You!!!

I have this vintage built Hawk model that I was thinking to strip, disassemble and restore, but was wondering if anyone knows anything about this kit? I found a vintage Hawk ad with it in it and it looks like it had surf boards too.

I since found this very listing. That’s the route I’m going. Thanks!

Well this is a real head scratcher. No plastic kits made, resin bodies available. I thought about taking this kit and “fixing” it by un-chopping the top, making the trunk normal with no spoiler, fixing the rear wheel openings, etc...then I realized this kit is a Crown Vic drag version. I’m thinking to try it anyway and change the slanted pillar and all. Any other ideas?
