  1. I would be interested in some opinions on the best putty to use. I’ve tried regular old Testors, green stuff, and even Bondo.
  2. I did some filling and sanding. It’s going to take a LOT of that. You can still see the lines aren’t spot on yet, because I have to do it in short sessions due to my hands. I think once it all lines up and gets new door lines carved in and sanded, door handles, hinges, etc., it should be ok. Ways to go yet...
  3. Doors fitted. Lots of sanding and trimming to do. It’s not easy. The hardtop is not fitting well, but I think with some putty it will be ok. Was going flat black for the top, but will try and make it as close to this one as possible. My friend is trying to win one like this for her business, so I figured I’d make her this one ha!
  4. Doors fitted. Lots of sanding and trimming to do.
  5. Some additional progress. The chassis has been done in flat black and will get some gray dry brushing for highlights. I’m on the fence if I want to make this one dusty and slightly muddy...will have to ask the new owner. The scratch build is a challenge. I’m going to have to start making actual measurements instead of eye balling and trimming, but what you see here is going to be puttied over and sanded, and I’ve used some very thin sheet styrene for new doors. I’ll make hatches and door handles the same way.
  6. Gman, thanks so much for all the info and resources. This is a one off for me, as I like to do them for friends. I either do their first cars or favorite cars, and this one she wants the new 2018 four door. I don’t know a thing about jeeps. I figured I’d cut up and amend this one into something she’d like. I hope it turns out ok. I’m still learning but I love to scratch build or customize builds. Thanks again!
  7. Some progress today. A test fit to see how much flor board I would need, and to get the measurements for the hardtop.

  9. Here’s another scratch build fun project using the kit pictured, since to my knowledge no four door hard top late model kits have been made. Maybe Tamiya? I’m not paying that, and scratch building is much more fun. I cut the body, chassis, interior tub to allow for the black doors. Right now it it’s rough, but will get the putty and sanding treatment to look original. The hard top will have to be entirely scratch built.
  10. Thanks much! Stand by for the ‘66 Coupe!
  11. Thanks much. No I did The interior in flat red and the body of course is gloss. It’s an exact replica of my high school buddy’s 289, with the traction bars and all.
  12. Here’s the motorized promo toy that I removed the chassis and motor and scratch built a chassis, rear end and shocks, traction bars. It’s 16” long for those unfamiliar with these promos, roughly 1/12 scale. I wanted to super detail it and make it a static model instead. I plan to do the ‘66 Coupe next in similar fashion, although I may keep that one motorized. I’ve learned a lot with this build, and would like to do more conversions to order for Wen MAC or Mustang enthusiasts in general.
  13. Thanks fellas. Starting on the ‘66 Coupe Wen MAC now.
  14. Finished this, will move final on the street photos to Under Glass section. Had some trouble with the white letter decals. I followed a tip and used Dulcote under and on top of the decals, but they still split. I have more so I suppose I could strip them and try again.
  15. Ok. I could have sworn the kit was 1/18 or 1/20, but everything I’ve seen online is 1/16. I just assumed this was the Nichimo kit, which is 1/16, but those were generally motorized and this one isn’t. I may have something entirely different here. I think I may break out my old ink jet printer and try doing a few with those Testors decal sheets. Thanks for looking into it for me.
  16. I can just cast two wheels in resin using a mold of one of the others. Truly a needle in the haystack of the world. Probably never find one, let alone two. That’s why I love scratch building though!
  17. Well this is a 1/16 kit. I do have a pic of the actual decal sheet, attached. I really only need the bottom stripes and the letters, but I guess it’s just easier to make the whole sheet?
  18. Thanks I finally got around to making it. Wish I had it back. I will own another one day I hope. Following your build!
  19. I had that same experience with this one!
  20. Scratch built side mirrors on. They’re ok. My first attempt. I’m not that happy with them but they’re not too bad. Just too small for my old shaky hands to make well.
  21. Thanks to both you guys. I built the Cobra 427. It’s in under glass section here. Luckily I have the alternate pieces for the motor so I will refit. Thanks!
  22. Really nice work! Would you be able to make some replacements for me for this kit? Either that or tell me how?
  23. I’m restoring this beauty and looking for a source for reproduction/replacement decals and front wheels. More to come...
  24. Awesome! Will you do it original color with the wood grain? I found some great wood grain decals I can share with you where I got them.
