Hey Daniel, This hobby does put us in an isolation to a certain degree. Spending many hours at a time bellied up to a bench, chin deep in small tools and parts under a flood of bright lights with obnoxious headgear providing visual assistance is kinda like being in a bubble.
We must like some part of the isolation or we would be involved in more social settings like billiards, darts, bridge, poker, church, bingo, etc...
I joined a model club a while back and realized that it was not really my bag. It did introduce me to some great people with some over-the-top building skills.
MCM Forums keep me in contact with others who have the same vice. (from a distance )
The isolation just seems to go along with the hobby.
PS...There are far worse things to do with our spare time
