  1. Scott, Google Cameo Silhouette". It is a machine designed for cutting out shapes in paper, but also has several model related capabilities. David
  2. It's pretty simple. I use a white tri-fold "project" board that kids use to do displays for school(Walmart). You can get a few large sheets of colored paper at the art supply store (Hobby Lobby or Michael's). A couple of big box store clamp on reflector bulbs and you're in business! Here are a few pictures taken with this setup. David
  3. A readily available and inexpensive way that I replicate polished aluminum is Duplicolor Universal Chrome sprayed over Krylon gloss black. This is what it looks like when done. David
  4. May be a long shot, but was wondering if anyone out there has used one of these machines to cut out their decals? I make my own, and was considering buying one of these for making masks and such. As it is a "special" function, didn't expect to find info on it on the Internet. Specifically, can you set it to cut out an image a particular amount away from the edge of that image? Kind of how you would specify an object's "outline" width in a graphics program. Thanks for any info!
  5. I totally understand where you are at Andy! Just know when time and spirit permit, there are folks interested in following your build. In the mean time, enjoy these years. Before you know it, they will be off on their own... David
  6. Jeff, Are the springs and differential molded as a unit, or are the springs separate? My reason for asking is there may be slight differences in frame width and need to adjust for same. Thanks for posting this info! I know I could use a few. David
  7. George, Awesome! From the nice bed cap, paint and details - one fine build! Are those rear spots from the Jeep Rubicon light bar? They look sharp! David
  8. Steven, The Lindberg kit is 1/25, while the Monogram kit is 1/24. Were you planning on using the Monogram kit as well? For some builds, the difference in scale is no big deal. In this case, I think you would be really disappointed. I would suggest using whatever base kit you want and modifying it with Evergreen sheet and strip stock. Good luck with your project! David
  9. Dan, I don't know if this is what Alan was referring to, but Duplicolor Perfect Match "Universal Chrome" sprayed over Krylon Gloss Black will give you a polished aluminum look: Sorry that the first picture is a little blurry... David
  10. Aaron, Here you go: http://public.fotki.com/cnaind/mas-resin-price-lis/ David
  11. Just curious. My Meng F350 kit that was a Christmas present arrived today. So many ideas are flowing through my mind as to the possibilities. I am considering cutting down the crew cab to a regular cab. Wondering if anyone has done this yet. I don't expect that it would be difficult to do, just looking to see what others have done. Thanks in advance! David
  12. https://www.shapeways.com/shops/DownRangeProductions1-35th-scale He is doing some great things! David
  13. Aaron, I know that Alan from Ma's Resin has at least one vintage wheel/tire combo. I too would love to learn how to master 3-D drawing! Somehow work, life, and "honey do's" get in the way... Good luck, look forward to following your journey! David
  14. If you mean the one in the "2013 CAMA " video, it looks like it would simply be a matter if using the Monogram kit, making some cardboard templates, and "gittin er done"! The lines are mostly all squares and rectangles except for the hood, which does not appear to be original. I am not an AC expert, I just like 'em. David
  15. Do any resin casters sell just 1/32 tires/wheels? I have several of the Monogram Mack fire trucks to convert. Could really use some better alternatives without buying full kits for just tires/wheels... Thanks! David
  16. Charlie, Another masterpiece in the making! Did you modify the wheel openings to accommodate the larger wheels/tires? The reason that I ask, is I plan on doing something similar to this rig - already sporting Bear FD colors. These Jada Durastars are a good base point for any number of conversions! Recently though, their prices have skyrocketed! Good news though - Dave "Models by Dave" Carey is working on resin versions of extended and crew cab Durastars! Don't know his timetable( new Dad, holidays, full time job) but like all of Dave's products, they'll be worth the wait! Here is a conversion of mine " in progress" from the same cab mated to an SSB Resins ambulance box: I will be following your build as I do appreciate your process and explanations! David
  17. Don't know if this is what you mean by "closed", but all of the 1/24 Mack AC Bulldog kits have both the closed and open cab options. Hope this helps. David
  18. For those of you into off road rescue vehicles, I wanted to share this with you. One of the rescue squads near where I grew up served a heavily wooded area of Southern New Jersey. They outfitted a Ford Bronco to hold a Stokes basket. They removed the front passenger seat and adapted the space to mount brackets to secure the Stokes basket. A side facing seat was mounted behind the driver to allow for an EMT to care for the patient. Brilliant! Now that a few 3-D printed Stokes baskets are available, I am planning on doing both a Bronco and a Jeep Rubicon this way! David
  19. George, Awesome! I especially like the bed cap! Really adds a nice touch! Many chiefs vehicles today have a similar setup. The rear contains incident command equipment as well as gear. PM me at your convenience. I might have some things to help you. David
  20. George, Nice work! I like the scratch built utility body! These are so much fun to build because you can customize them any way you wish. Here is one of mine undergoing a refurb. David
  21. George, Nice job on this project! I especially like the color scheme! Are the stripes paint or decals? Look forward to following this build. I like your other F350 projects! Centerville Maryland also has a sharp Ford brush truck. I have one of these kits on my Christmas list : ) David
  22. Really nice job on this build! Beautiful paint finish! David
  23. Clemens, Welcome to North America! There are several options when it comes to pickup based fire trucks. Some are brush trucks, rescues, mini pumpers, rapid intervention vehicles(airport fire fighting), etc. It really depends on what you wish to model. Both plastic kits and diecast make good bases for a build. Brush trucks can have pickup style bodies, flatbeds, or compartments as shown in your photo. Many of the other types have compartments as in your photo. In addition to "policecarmodels.com, Don Mills models, mdlbldrmatt135(https://www.shapeways.com/shops/DownRangeProductions1-35th-scale), and SSB Resins have many accessories that you might find helpful. In addition to the board here, the Scale Firehouse is a model forum specifically for the larger scale emergency vehicle modeler. PM me if I can answer any questions for you. David
  24. Hi Gang, After spending a great deal of time searching Youtube to find videos indicating how to replicate smoke and flame. I found a couple that showed how to make smoke and fire markers for gaming. I adapted this technique to address diorama or vignette purposes. This may be a review for some, but hope vit is helpful/ I began with a 6 pack of battery operated tea light candles - $2.50 at Walmart. The "flame" looks like clear silicone. But, when "lit" it glows yellow. I painted it with Tamiya clear orange and red. I then took some Gator grip glue(white glue would work as well) and secured a section of polyester fiberfill(used for stuffing pillows) to the base. Work your way around, covering the base and working your smoke into a "plume" shape. This can be aided by using a {pick or other pointed instrument. I inverted the "plume" and used ultra hold hair spray to help it maintain it's shape. I have yet to break out the airbrush to apply mist coats of various colors to enhance the effect. Again, this is a first effort. As" practice makes perfect", I hope to improve my technique. One final note: A few years ago I began a thread called "Planned Project". It was one of my fire company's first fire houses. The project has been on the back burner for a while. Historically, the station only lasted a year, before it burned down. I thought this might be a neat opportunity to see my little "experiment" in action. Below are the photos and a poor quality video. I hope to learn how to edit them in the near future. Let me know what you think! David http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w171/hooknladderno1/FireSmoke01/th_FireSmoke01.mp4
  25. Any suggestions for removing Tamiya masking tape adhesive residue from "window glass" treated with Future? The residue is on top of the Future. Thanks in advance! David
