I Took A Break From The Forum...
Zoom Zoom replied to Raul_Perez's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Next thing you know he'll make the shirt pink in your avatar If it took Pepto Bismol to fix it, that's fine w/me. The forum is much faster now. -
Whew...between finding out all the cool stuff (to me at least) coming the next few months from the Japanese companies, today I got my Revell Subaru STI (plastic), a Maisto stock VW Type 3 fastback (Dad had a white one w/red interior), and from Finland came my holiest of grails (recently), a 1/24 scale Saab 96 It has a very "Scale Kraft" feel to it. It was also ridiculously expensive, thanks to the lousy conversion rate between the dollar and euro While I got the Saab, my buddy got a Volvo P1800 and Ford Anglia...they all look pretty cool. I'll post pics of the Saab shortly, when I get them cleaned up a bit. I'd like to get it done soon.

More Goodies Coming From Japan
Zoom Zoom posted a topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Fujimi...yep, the 3rd GT-R Also a new 250 GTO This bodes very well for the future of getting the best vintage Ferraris done in plastic. Also an update of the F430 into the Scuderia I know one person who already started the conversion work, I chose to wait Also for Rotorheads, Fujimi's making a racing variant of their RX3 Fujimi's latest announcements at Hobbysearch -
Tamiya Hobby Show announcements (for May show) GT-R and etch set. I assume it's the new R35 GT-R, but no word yet on full-detail vs. curbside, or if it's the street car or JGTC racer. Now, let's see Fujimi jump in... Meanwhile, we still don't have a McLaren F1, Lotus Exige/Elise, or a good Aston or three

Something tells me this hobby has turned a big corner, as news of this kit has gone over like a lead balloon on at least one forum that used to be "Skyline Central". Not surprised at the lack of interest in the US, but something tells me that doing the latest/greatest Skyline kit isn't like printing money like it was in the past for the Japanese kit mfg's.

By the time this page loads (aka est. mid-July ), Aoshima will have the first kit on the market of the new Japanese giant killer aka the R35 GT-R. Also four new 20" VIP wheel sets. Aoshima new models (scroll down to find R35 GT-R and VIP wheels) Okay Revell, time for a ZR1 for the smackdown I didn't really expect Aoshima to have it first. Really hoped to see Tamiya or Fujimi do one full-detail. But there's plenty of time, and further additions to the lineup (Spec V next).

I spent way too long researching this. Clues...hmmmm.....aha...finally...nailed it!

Congrats on the win, great model! Thanks for the album too! Hope you can bring the Beetle (and the Caddy) to Atlanta in November Dying to see 'em in person.

Alclad II is better for separate parts like bumpers/mirrors. Plus you have to be adept at prepping/spraying the most perfect, glass-smooth black possible if you want the Alclad to be truly reflective. If you want to go to all the trouble to mask, spray black, polish it smooth, then carefully apply Alclad to all the chrome trim on a body, and hope it didn't bleed when doing trimwork, go for it. It's not going to be easy for anyone w/o much experience. BMF is not difficult, IF you have a fresh sheet that isn't riddled with fine wrinkles/cracks as most sheets seem to do these days; every sheet I've seen at the two LHS's I've been to in the past few months were not usable. With a fresh sheet and a good supply of new X-Acto blades, BMF is great. It takes a bit of practice, steady hands and good eyesight. But it will most certainly be a lot easier on trimwork than using Alclad.

Very nice detective car/sleeper

There are spy shots all over every 1:1 car website and blog of the new Camaro. The production Camaro will not be from Australia. The production Camaro will be built in North America, unlike our Pontiac G8 that is coming from Australia. At the recent Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, the new Camaro concept car in silver was sitting next to a production-spec silver Challenger SRT-8. The Challenger looked like a truck by comparison. The Camaro is much sexier in person than the Challenger.

Beautiful work, you'd never know by looking at them how much work it takes to get that result! That's why I built the curbside 904

From what I've heard, both people involved died. The first one died in November, the second a month or two later.

Does anyone remember that Polar Lights announced an '05 Mustang CV back when they announced the '04 Pontiac GTO and the Ford GT? Seems to me it would have been a pretty good seller. IIRC all of them were supposedly cancelled, and then the GTO and GT got a reprieve and went forward. Art Anderson probably could give us some insight; I'm sure he has said before how far along they got w/the Mustang before the plug was pulled. Like others have said, nothing Revell does/doesn't do surprises me anymore. We can all conjecture until we're blue in the face, and at the end of the day, where do we get? I'm sure if they think they can make more money off of it vs. something else, we'll see it. Or not. In the meantime, I think they'll have no problem moving Shelby GT350H's and GT500's whenever it is they come out.

Great model! One of the most beautiful designs ever to hit the racetrack. Nice work

Mediamix Hobbies from Singapore has them for $77/US, they have great service, and Strada Sports here in the US should get them as well. Mediamix Parts HLJ doesn't carry KA, and Hiroboy's site is down for the weekend. -
Hanging Up The #11s For A Long While

Paybacks are hell -
S27 is closer to $200; the kit is 197,600 yen, roughly $193 at today's conversion. But there's a whole lot of pro-Japanese builders out there that will automatically assume that if it comes from Japan, it's better. Or if it's more expensive, it's worth it. I'm feeling the pain of spending $160 for a very limited resin kit of a Saab 96 coming from Finland. 100 Euros is tough to swallow at today's conversion rate
-
Looks great, and I enjoy seeing the final product since I had a hand in the design of the kit. I see Studio27 is doing these soon Though it's going to be a lot more $$, but dayum...

Hanging Up The #11s For A Long While

I'm getting pretty tired of people on the various boards who think it's their job to put other people down, that it's their way or the highway. Noel, I can understand how that kind of ###### can poison your outlook on the hobby that's supposed to be fun. Take a break to clear your head if you really need it, but if you quit then they've won. You're not building models for them, you build them for you. Those who put others down the most, you'll notice they're not the ones building anything. Ten to one they're jealous, bitter, and have nothing to add to the hobby other than a bunch of hot air. Screw 'em. Plus, you can enjoy building models and take a break from the boards and the completely unnecessary strife that they manage to put into our lives from time to time.
