  1. Yeah, that part was pretty obvious. Hadn't seen a partially obscured (clear) shot of the transmission before.
  2. I'd at least flip the valve covers right side up. Holy cow, is that a split case transmission in this kit?
  3. For some reason or other, I'd cut out the front flares for larger tires. Whatever I was doing didn't go as planned and I built this instead. I'm currently redoing this model and a handful of others. Since the price of new kits is out of hand, I'm redoing alot of my old builds. Kinda like George Lucas.
  4. Older toolings, or cheaper kits commonly don't have rearview mirrors.
  5. Put the convertible on top, That would make the upper deck an open air cruiser. Kind of like some double decker busses.
  6. Stand back and behold! I was sober, when I did this, although I may have been exposed to fumes. It was also the first car I attempted to paint with an airbrush, and has orange peel to spare. I think I used half a tube of Squadron green putty on it as well. It later sacrificed some parts and an A-pillar to repair a fist editon of the same kit.
  7. Excellent work, this does not look like a first attempt. The only suggestions would be the wheels look too clean. Also, I believe thestock wheels would be silver, maybe mismatch them? Also the running boards are metal covered with rubber skin. Maybe sand them smooth, paint them rusty, then recover with ripped masking tape or other material to represent the ripped rubber.
  8. These are simple, but excellent kits. I have two that I built when I was a kid. Tamiya rarely dissapoints. What are you going to do for the missing lights? The kit could be buitl with them up or down. Here is one of mine as the Decepticon, Breakdown.
  9. Airsoft ammo, dollhouse accesories? Other than that, super sculpey sounds like the way to go.
  10. Beautiful work. Looks pretty intimidating in that livery.
  11. Nice job! I was half expecting the red-head girl from the cartoon. I haven't painted miniatures in years, and it's a whole different approach dealing with things so tiny. (I have a bunch of Cyberpunk & Shadowrun figures)
  12. Awesome Work, Rodney. I'm in awe of the working hinges and plow. I suck at fabrication like that.
  13. Awesom rig, Jerred. I agree with the horizontal saw being more effective. For your engine, a good wash and some highlights should help bring it out. Running engines don't get that rusty. Also, those tires are directional, they should all be facing the way the left front one is.
  14. I don't think that's going to help here. I don't know how old this kit is, but I built 4 differnt Gunze Sangyo kits in the late 80's, early 90's and the tires rot and split in a few years, so your probably ahead of the game having to replace them straight away.
  15. Awesome work! I never noticed where the headlight is on this bike. I'm gonna have to share this with my Mad Max friends. (I carry a "Get out of Jail free" card in my wallet because of this scene.)
  16. That's cool.I know all about fudging... I also know several people out of their minds.
  17. I was going to post the Caddy monster, but Unicorn beat me to the punch. To me, the extra cabin is what looks the most out of place. But then again, hippies would make double decker busses by stacking VW busses on school busess.Pherhaps this will be a personell carrier? You can fit 6-7 peopel in a regualar Caddy, why not go for 12-14? I would have made it lower, like a desert racer, or pre-runner truck.
  18. The cooling fan on VW is driven by the fanbelt which turns the gen/alt. The cooling fan is mounted opposite of the pully on the back of the gen/alt. (except on Type 3 & 4, those are driven off the crankshaft) An intake scoop cannot make it spin faster to cool more, the mechanically driven fan will always spin in relation to the speed of the engine. It would, be a source of clean air, but the intake is usually directly behind the body in a low pressure area, which should be plenty clean in the first place. OK, its all coming back to me . I've never seen that kit in person before. It looks similar to the Shalako buggy, but with no headlights. Again, not trying to slight your build, the work your doing is great. Just saying an elaborate intake like that would be better suited feeding the intake system, not the cooling system.
  19. Not to be a dick, but that air intake into the cooling system won't accomplish much. The cooling fan runs off the back of the generator, you can't force more air into a fan. Now, if you had the intake going into an airbox that fed the carburators, that woud work. That's only a 36HP engine, what VW kit is this from? I'm sure you probably mentioned it, but I can't find it. The oldest 1/24 Beetle I can think of is the Gunze Sangyo '56 kit, thought it was a curbside. I'm just rambling now.
  20. No. Not since I was kid where I'd finish a model in 1 or 2 days. And they looked like it, too. It's not uncommon for me to be working on 5 things at once. Right now im shuffling one brand new AMT/Aoshima time machine, the Revell tuner series 510 and a glue bomb of one of the Revell Datsun trucks. then there's the two GI Joe vehicles I'm customizing and a pile of figures to fix.
  21. Truth & honesty wont make you popular. It's all about tactfull delivery and constructive criticism. Now, where did i leave my tact?
  22. I'd like to see someone attempt the Skyline sandrail stunt car, and the Mustang-Skyline hybrid. I've been to Universal Studios Ca, and got to see one of the black Chargers, and the Monte Carlo from Tokyo Drift. There was a bunch of other wacky stunt cars, but I couldn't recognize them.
  23. "cough" Madmaxmodels.com, madmaxmovies.com, "cough". I know, I was partly joking cause you werent using your usual screenname.
  24. Awesome work on a horrible kit. I've built a few of these, and you did an amazing job with what the kit had to offer. Unfourtunately, this is the part where I have to be a dick. Beetle roofracks generally have have 6 legs, yours should have a pair in the middle, which clamps to the driprails. You used the front turn signals for the taillamps, If I remember, they did this on the boxart, too. Also those fenders would be fiberglass with those flares. No offense intended, I just know the subject matter, and offering some things to look out for.
  25. I have this kit, I bought it when i was a kid, and started to "restore" it. haven't gotten far, but the hood part was bugging me. Wasn't sure what year this truck was or if was old enough where the hood might have been metal. Not an expert on trucks.
