The name's Pete!
mysterj1 replied to mountaindewd's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Wow...that looks STOUT. I bet that they couldn't build those fast enough if they built them on 1:1... -
I love that Vega's paint scheme...

1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018

Chris, Amazing work, I have to say when I look through the "master" works to get ideas (and motivation) I usually wind up looking at this thread. Looking forward to seeing the chassis w/ some color and this bad boy sitting on some rubber while the engine gets its due diligence. -

Jim, Thanks for reminding me. As soon as I saw his name I remembered it. I'd love to find another of those kits, was a great build. -
Chevrolet Titan 90 build
mysterj1 replied to cavejohnson's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Nice kit, glad to see the finished pics. Mine is in the works (finally)...amazing what starting a business will do to your schedule. I looked at a few of the Titan's here, I decided to go with the square fuel tanks, too. I have the dayton's on it for now but might swap them out for some 2 hole budds if I get the urge. Again, nice job! -
Great rig, Danno. I was a vol for a few years myself and have the bug to build some engines myself. I am just now taking the time to look back in time and enjoy those open cab rigs, I have been looking at some gorgeous LAFD Crown's that you likely have driven. Here's the question I have, though: What was the intent of having an open cab in the first place? Were they just intended for fair weather places? Or did you just rough it in cold weather? I can't imagine making a long response in sub-freezing weather - then again, I can't imagine riding tailboard to a call like that, either! Again, great rig!

Chevy Titan 90 and Tanker Trailer

Good stuff! I think it looks good hauling that fuel trailer! I like that you swapped out the dayton's...but I like those, too. -

Beautiful job on a great subject. Didn't he paint this ride blue at one time? I seem to remember it on the circuit, even recall seeing a 1/16 kit at some point in time. Maybe that was the Marine Corps car? -
Ramcharger, Thanks so much for sharing what I think is (at least to me) the coolest line up of classic cars ever raced. I began following drag racing in the late 60's, and I used to love seeing the Ramchargers car - whatever version - on the start line. Looking at your cars was a trip back to those days...thanks!

Thinking of donor kits for this...
mysterj1 replied to mysterj1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hmmm...I am thinking of something more modern looking than a half-track or a tank. Never really looked but I'm sure there's a kit for snowmobiles...or will have to fabricate something... -
I am thinking of making a high-tech "school bus" of the future...but it will still be ground based. Want to honor all our relatives who walked 50 miles uphill each way in the snow to school...so I'm thinking of going half-track rear end and multi axle front end, big block ford powered (thinking staying true to the old Ford gas v8's of the truck categories). I know the old S'chool Bus of the 70's, anyone have any ideas that would make an interesting start?

Very nice build! You must have better eyes and hands that I do!
-
Tom, this build captured my attention from the moment I laid eyes on it. As a lifelong devotee of Detroit "Heavy Metal", I have to say the car you're building completely typifies the hot rods that I grew to love. Pony cars? Meh. Gimme ladder bars, air shocks, straight axles, and deep dish Cragars any day! (But I do love "chromies" and baby moons, too. I still think mag wheels are better looking than any of the crud that is sold today!) Don't keep us waiting too long!

You are quite the artist, Chris! I am amazed at the dedication you have put into this build and the details that you continue to draw out. As someone just getting back into building, your ideas have motivated me to no end. As much as I have enjoyed the new details, I have really enjoyed your posts SHOWING how you do your work. To me, seeing how others conceptualize and create new "technology" is every bit as valuable. Thanks for being an awesome teacher! I can't wait to see this build coming together! -

This is one of the coolest builds i've seen since I've joined this site! You really have an eye for "lines"; this car looks 225 mpg standing still! -
Looking really good. Can't wait to see where this goes! I'm following this thread!

mysterj1 replied to 1320wayne's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Looking great, Wayne! I think you really have captured the "attitude" that this car could bring to the track. I admit I liked the chrome on the rims, too, but that's just my $0.02. I'll be following this build, can't wait to see the finished work. Ford blue would look pretty sweet too. -
I'm with you there. I'm searching for a '67 SS fastback for my dream car.

Anyone heard anything new on Gordon? Hope he's recovering and doing ok. -
Saw this on Flickr and immediately wanted to build it. Very cool historical truck. http://www.flickr.co...57630775686712/

Chris, I've been following this since I saw your original post...amazing build of one of my favorite cars of all time. Your "scale" pics (of the penny) made me roll my eyes...not saying i WOULDN'T or COULDN'T do it...but, holy smokes! that is Small! Looking forward to seeing more on this, and hoping your summer will allow you a little bench time! Joe -
I vote for Rat Trap too. Love those front wheels, are those Halibrands?
-
Nice build. Were those rims stock w/ that kit? Very nice realism, it sure looks to scale. Love that raked stance, cool hot rod.
