buffing finished cars
sno_man80 replied to sno_man80's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So is it worth my time to clear metallic colors?? Or just go straight to polishing it with no clear?? Thanks for all the tips. -
I used this 1970 Mustang for a guinea pig that I messed up on the paint work. I used a hobby knife to remove the doors, and the interior doors and the trunk lid. That part was easy now its doing the hinging for the doors and lid. Then I need to build the trunk compartment. Then making the interior the same size as the door itself. This will be work for spring and summer when I have more money to buy all the required stuff and get a little more knowledge on it. Heres the pic on the "test" car. Comments on progress and what to do next is appreciated! Just remember this car is done for, its only a test car.

I'll post pics this weekend with the progress of what I've done, I'm using an body of a car I screwed up, I was able to cleanly get the doors off and so far got the interior off, the negative is the interior isn't scaled to the exterior, so I need to build it up somehow, I'm guessing plastic bondo will do the trick. I'll post this weekend along with my progress there after. Thanks -
P.S. Yes its Grabber Green, I seen it and fell in love with it!! I think it may have turned out better with either a primer or a lighter flat shade of green as a base cote, but thats for next time.

I completely messed up the paint on a 70 Boss 302, so I used the body as a test piece, for colors, I cut the doors to practice, and I just built a 289 GT350R, and the motor in the 1965 standard mustang is a 289, and it deserves a Boss 302, mostly because I had one sitting in a box! And its not typical so I decided to mix it up a bit and drop one in there, it fits perfect. I am putting the 289 headers on the 302 so it hooks up to the exaust properly. The motor itself doesn't offer the detail of the 289 but I think it'll puzzle people and thats why I did it, and to me the only 289 worth having is a tri-power, this isn't that so I figure its my world and its the only 1965 Boss 302 I'll probably ever see more less ever own!!

Bill, I started cutting the doors off of a car I messed up, (the car itself I messed up, not the removal of the doors, well, not yet anyways!!) I'll post pics this weekend on this forum with my progress. I am using an exacto knife to cut it out, I know threading works better, but to me it seems the knife is an easier place to get the feel of it. I'd also like to know how you built up the jams rocker panels and the hinges, I seen the steps for the rockers but there not quite as clear to the "build up". I'm assuming its an epoxy or resin build up. Thanks, your the king!! -
I recently built a Revel 1965 Mustang, I beleive the detail is great on them compared to AMT. One of the Hobby shop guys is working on an AMT 66 Mustang (same car basically) his exaust it not seperate not the emblems. What is better in terms of detail is better in your opinion??

Dave your such a sissy!! Sure even I don't care for below zero weather, but come on, it beats that crappy humid, sweat while doing nothing weather!! Hey any other Wisconsinites and friendly Illinois Buddies get around to the Dells Automotion Car Show its the third weekend in May, they have model car contest, its a small affair and we need to make it a better one, so if your from near there, submit your model, make it so Dave stops winning against the other 3 contestants!! J/K Demo Dave has great demo builds in his collection!! -

I hear alot about buffing paint jobs, how does one go about buffing the finished product? What do you use and what precautions do you have to take for any decals?? Basically what are the steps??
-
thanks for all the tips I'll try it on the next model

I built a few in middle school, kinda lost base with it, then I built the 442 last year, I was 25 and I just completed the 350R now 26 so you see pretty much all my experience, I'll def. have to look into the foil, thanks.

I seem to have problems getting the hood flush with the quarters after its all done, what can I do to fix this problem, besides hood hinges that keep it permently raised?? Thanks
-
I'm pretty new to model building so please take it easy on me!! Heres my two in the colloection. My Olds 442 Grape Pearl on Purple Mettallic and the more detailed 65 GT 350R, I did finish off the roll cage in this car and added wires. I'm working on a 65 Mustang that can be seen "on the bench", thanks for looking, any tips would be great thanks.
-
I almost feel out of place in here!! Heres my 65 Mustang so far, I'll be dropping in a Boss 302 that currently is getting the detail of plug wires. I'll still be doing more engine paint detail as I go, I guess I get too excited as I get part accomplished!! If theres any tips for a better job any where I'm waiting for replys, thanks for viewing.

WOW!! Talk about detail an patience. What are you using for puttie as a filler?? I often see after people cut the doors out I see a body filler, what is it?? Greta job, I look forward to watching the rest of the way. -
I was looking through and came across the tip to warm rattle cans under hot tap water, how does that work and what exactly is the way to go about it? And also another tip was to spray clear coat on two tone for better color seperation, is that the best way to go?? Thanks for any help and other tips.
