Few years back I started doing two similar swaps, '41 nose on a resin '48 4-door based on the Revell kit, and another '41 nose on the infamous IMC/Testors '48 that was getting lead-sleaded. Neither one seemed to be particularly difficult as far as I can remember, which is as it should be, 'cause in reality it's almost a straight bolt-on...other than the running boards. Just measure carefully and work slowly and pay attention to fit as you go.

Yeah...sad state of affairs with most "American" brands having devolved into cheapo offshore junk. The plastic-parts-failing-early issue is common across the board with just about everything now, too.

Cool fix. Applause. Really. Mine was a really simple one. No display, just a timer knob. A friend brought it to me, got it at a thrift store for $15 way, way back when my whiz-bangy one dumped. Clean one-owner, looked new. I figgered I'd replace it with a nicer one, but it's worked like a a champ for years, so I just kept using it. It's been feeling its age for a while, though. Not too far back, the door interlock failed, easy enough to repair. Last few days the turntable drive has been rattling, sounding like gravel in the bearings...and then it got better. But when I went to heat a cup of coffee this PM, it would start and stop when the turntable apparently bound up, then finally started smoking from where the turntable motor apparently is. Anything's fixable, within reason, but at this point I need to stay focused on paying work and just get a cheapo for the interim. The house out west has a nice one.

Not an irk so much as a profound sadness and sense of loss. Another old friend that served me faithfully for 20 years bit the dust. I'll salvage his magnetron and transformer to live anew in something else. EDIT: Third kitchen appliance to check out in the last six months or so. Wonder if they know something I don't. Cue Twilight Zone music...

Dry wine and martinis and beverages in general usually appeal more to my taste than the sweet stuff some prefer.

Absolutely correct, but a very large percentage of web users accept the first thing Google vomits up as gospel, or whatever is repeated most often on social or other media. -
Autoquiz #602 - Finished
Ace-Garageguy replied to carsntrucks4you's topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I owned a '69 Italia Spyder for a very short time. Powered by a Ford 302 and covered in awful white paint to hide a fair bit of rust, it was stolen from a closed gas station I'd rented to store some cars short-term while I moved my shop....Sports Car Engineering...from an industrial area close to Ga.Tech up to the ritzy Buckhead suburb. Uninsured theft, and I always kinda thought the guy I got it from was the one who stole it, as he was, let's just say, a little on the shady side. Most people, even "car guys", had no clue what it was, with some thinking it was a Corvette, the rest thinking it was a Ferrari. (not my car...AFAIK ) The lines of the Italia were what inspired me to build what was, at the time, the world's only 240Z convertible...which disappeared from a "friends" property while he was in the midst of a nasty divorce; another uninsured loss. EDIT: I honestly think the Italia was the most beautiful of all the limited-production Italian semi-exotics. -

"Perfected" is something the self-driving-car mavens thought they would have achieved some time ago, but it turned out to be one whole jelluva lot harder than most folks thought, even engineers who should have known better

Just in case you (or anybody else) missed it, Randy Ditton has done something similar on his Birdcage Maser build... -
Privileges are often assumed that simply don't exist, along with other ridiculous ideas, like believing all business-owners have boxcar-loads of cash sitting around.

Finally learning not to rise to things that tend to provoke my ire, staying calm, standing my ground without anger, and walking away when it becomes obvious the provocation is from the clueless who will never get it. It sure took long enough to get to this point, but better late than never.

What Did You Have for Dinner?

Spaghetti w/ homemade tomato sauce made with ground beef and chorizo, heavy on the garlic and onions and peppers, topped with fresh basil and feta, and a decent Merlot. -
