  1. Today's Irk: the miraculous ability some folks have of denying objective reality. There seem to be a large number of people who can look in the mirror at this... ...and apparently see something like this... ...and it's not just what these people see in the mirror that has no similarity to anything observable by a rational mind.
  2. "Youse" doesn't rhyme with "louse", though it looks like it otter.
  3. Seven is supposed to be "lucky", but six always comes through for me.
  4. Cook a haggis with tatties and neeps for Hogmanay.
  5. Restaurant eating has diminished appeal, as I can usually eat better for a fraction of the cost if I cook most meals myself.
  6. Brews'll do, but I'd prefer a single malt Scotch.
  7. Motto rhymes with blotto, slang for a state of extreme inebriation.
  8. Best line I've heard all year, and completely true and relevant.
  9. Looks similar, with the big servo in the right place, same overall shape, but the model is missing the tailshaft housing... Known as "Super Turbine 300", it came only with the BOP bolt pattern, so don't bother looking in Chevy kits. Here's the other side:
  10. Courses in logical thinking should be mandatory in elementary school.

  12. Bowling with Bozo has a nice bit of alliteration.
  13. Reaching for the stars is the opposite of being focused on the gutter.
  14. Paints spilled can be the devil to clean up.
  15. I've used Mirka products and like them. I'll have to see if those pads are available here. Thanks. And...who's the babe in your avatar?
  16. Much of the strife in the world is due to people on both sides of any given issue failing to switch their brains from "mindless rebleating" mode to "listening and thinking" mode.
  17. Trying to communicate in a world where average reading comprehension has deteriorated to the point that the "point" of anything written (if it's more complex than "see Spot run") is regularly missed. EDIT: I crossed out "reading" and "written", because comprehension of strings of spoken words are regularly misunderstood as well, and phrases and single words are often taken entirely out of context to be twisted into something the speaker simply didn't say. This is regularly done by "intelligent, educated" people. Hmmmmmm...
  18. Clearance between moving parts varies depending on function and location, from a few thousandths of an inch to large fractions of an inch or more.
  19. Excellent advice.
  20. Ankles barely exposed were once a thrilling glimpse into the mysteries of women, but now there seems to be no shred of modesty.
  21. Daisy chains can be romantic spur-of-the-moment gifts if you find yourself in a field of flowers with a beautiful woman.
