  1. This great, well executed. Shades of Ira, well done padiwan, well done.
  2. Pete, I wan't going for total coverage, I just wanted to get a grainy effect.
  3. Thanks guys. I sprayed from about 3' away and it works great. I'd post some pictures but my cell phone doesn't do it justice.
  4. How can I recreate the cast metal look on engine blocks, rear ends. etc..
  5. Here is another small tip. I found, after losing a few parts down the drain, a cheap way to clean and rinse small parts safely. In the drug stores tooth care isle pick up a box of denture cleaning tablets and a denture cleaning tub, for lack of better word, they even have scented tablets so your parts smell minty fresh. The 'tub' comes with a basket to lift your parts out of the bath, no scrubbing, no lost parts,
  6. How about modelmasters interior paint, it has a sandlike texture.
  7. Hey Dave, I like where your build is going. Before I retired I would do most of my building and a lot of painting at my office during my lunch break. Do you only build a work or do bring it back an forth? I started off carrying my stuff in a tackle box but ended up finally using a rollaround computer/office bag. I worked in a cubical and spraying was relegated to the outside fire escape landing during lunch.
  8. Thanks to both of y'all for your suggestions, but I got some money for Christmas and decided to just buy one. Most probably from Wally World or H.F.
  9. Does anyone know of plans, tutorials, whatever on making a homemade dehydrator.
  10. John I feel for you man, I know what you went, and are still going, through was tough. Two years ago I tried to do a manicure on my left hand, with a table saw! Needless to say that did not end well, limited use in three fingers and the middle finger does not bend, permanent bird. Keep up the positive attitude and don't let it limit you. Also if they recommend p.t. take it, it helps.
  11. Pat I have one I'm want to get rid of, send me a PM if your interested.
  12. Thanks guys, ya'll gave my brain a jump start. Ray, a quick question or three. What did you use for your fan belt, what size wire did you use for the ignition wires and did you shorten the radiator?
  13. I need help with this model. I'm looking for aftermarket tires (typ. street rod) to replace the two peice rubber things in the box and rims to match. I normally build 1/24-1/25 cars, I need help with general detail stuff like ignition wires, rad. hoses, etc. what sizes should I use? Any help (good, bad or indifferent) will be appreciated.
  14. Harbor Freight has thier dehydrator on sale, http://www.harborfreight.com/5-tier-food-dehydrator-66908.html, and I am thinking of getting one. How good is it and what is involved in modifing it use for painting? Any info would be much appreciated.
  15. Dave I feel for you buddy. A long time ago I tried to strip a model RR engine, key word try, with brake fluid and it stripped the paint fine. It also stripped the bonding agent from the plastic leaving it in the shape of an engine but a rubbery, crumbly mess. That being said, I'd say your problem is the plastic. I now use brake fluid exclusively with no problems. Besides its cheap, a buck at the dollor store, and I can't find purple power around here.
  16. Chris, HELP! I'm going thru Mooneyzs withdrawls, and I need a fix bad. I have followed your build since the beginning and have been blown away by your phenominal attention to detail. Please get back to the bench, for your own sake, I'd hate to see this project end up in a box on a shelf, yoyu got too much invested in it.
  17. Bill E. ---- Thanks for the link to the Craig Stansfields 2011 R & M catalog. I'm building Revells Datsun 510, with the moulded in tail lights and would like to keep the surface detail. Joe ------- Thanks for the suggestion, but like I told Bill E., the tail lights where moulded in and I cut them out without any thought as to what next. Bill G. ---- Your links were older than Bill E.'s link but include pictures. Thanks anyway. Buy the way, I like your YouTube channel. Snake45 -- Thanks for the tip on the epoxy, I see what you mean about rubbery, the 5 min. stuff I used has filally hardened (only took 4 days). I'll let y'all know how the next batch turns out.
  18. Like the title and tags state, I got two questions. One, does anyone know where I can find a picture referance to the latest Replicas & Minitures releses. Two, I have tried casting taillights with 5 min. epoxy and two drops of red food color. The results where OK but nothing to write home about, too dark & opaque. I only need two, I want them clear red & I don't want to spend money on bottles of resin dye, I'm cheap. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  19. Great model Rick, I know how you feel. Back when I was 16 I totaled my moms '63 Buick Electro 225. lost it on a wet street and slide sideways into a phone pole, digging a 3' trench. I got my drivers license 2 days before and the car just returned the day before from the upholstery shop with new seat covers, mom was NOT happy.
  20. Thanks guys, was thinking of making a set of headers for a double dragster build, but decided go with plastic rod and drill out the end instead.
  21. Is there a tutorial or could someone tell me how to bend small dia. tubing without kinking it?
  22. Thanks guys. The goggle search was a big help and Bill I only saw one "chassis" (wink, wink) in that ad!
  23. I am starting the AMT dbl dragster rail kit, single engine, and was wondering if there is a 1:1 equal for the frame. Any info will be helpful
  24. Carl, (great name) I'm sorry to here about your problem, I can relate to to your plight. A little over a year ago I was doing some work on my table saw, with a dull blade, no guard and in a hurry. The outcome was not pretty, all the fingers on my left hand where damaged, almost severing my index finger. After two surgeries and countless hours of p.t. I am permenently flipping the bird at the world. This past year has been rough, looking at all the great works on this forum and trying and failling to do the simplist task, I just now feel comfortable enough to mess with plastic again. The reason I'm telling you all this is don't give up, I really can't give you any personal advice about foiling except to try some of the excellant tips that you've been given and learn and adapt.
