I picked another one of these kits up, because I think there fun little kits and have a bunch of possiblities. I'm going to make this one a day cab. I've gone ahead already and cut the sleeper away from the cab. I then cut the back out of and old AMT Pete to put on the Revell cab. I did this so I would'nt have to try and make my own window opening. http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...ab/MVC-055F.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...ab/MVC-056F.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...ab/MVC-057F.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...ab/MVC-058F.jpg

I like what you've done with this so far. Nice weathing job also. Looks real. I don't know about that color though.....lol  . I'l have to wait and see what it looks like when finished. Might change the look of the paint when everything else is on the truck. Great job so far and keep us updated!!! -
This thing is looking good!! I like you attention to detail. Can't wait to see you dump body for this thing. The pusher axle looks good sitting under it as well. Very nice! I'm waiting on another order from Jamie as well. He has some very nice stuff for these trucks. Keep the updates coming. I like this one!!

Flamed Pete 359
rottin1 replied to dieseldoc's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Very nice job!! I like how you did your bumper guide lights, Looks pretty realistic. I like how you represented the bumper bolts as well. Nice touch. What did you use for the air cleaners? They look good. Those aren't the stock ones that come with the truck. The flame job is great as well. I have an airbrush and compressor and only wished I could paint like that! Very, very nice job on this one so far. Can't wait to see what else you have in mind for it!! -

Here's another update on my Snap truck. I have the stacks mounted. The bumper and the visor are also mounted. I have only a few other small things left to mount, such as the bunk work lights, pogo stick, air lines rear light bar and license plates. Thanks for looking. http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...59/MVC-030F.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...59/MVC-031F.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...59/MVC-029F.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro.../MVC-030F-1.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro.../MVC-029F-1.jpg -
Dave:$500.00!!!! With a buy it now of $1000 Unbelievable!! I'm really surprised there are no bids on it! LOL I'm trying to score a few of the old AMT kits. I want both the COE Kenworth and COE Pete. The most I would spend on them is right around $50.00. I've missed a few because I refuse to go over the 50 mark. I could kick myself in the azz, because I had EVERYONE of these kits when I was younger. I eventually GAVE them all away. They were all built of course, but still wished I had them today! Speaking of COE's, is the Revell Kenworth COE a setback axle or is it a forward axle. I've only seen pics. I have never seen the actual kit in person, and from the boxart it kind of looks as if the axle is set back. Does any one know?

My old truck!

Greg: As a matter of fact I have seen that Marmon running around here. If i'm not mistaken , I think he lives a couple of minutes from me. At one time it said Tiger on the door. I think he runs for somebody different now. I like that truck. It's a good looking ride. I was (and still) a big Marmon fan. I used to run with a bunch of guys out of PA than all they ran was marmons. Both COE's and Hoods. East Penn to be exact. I'll see if I can't snap a pic of that Marmon around here. 8) -

Jim: You guys would probably cringe when I tell you how I paint! I have an attached shed off the back off the house. It's mainly a storage shed with no heat at all. It does have lighting. When I paint, I usually get a bunch of parts ready to paint , all at one time. I then put a kerosene heater in the room to warm it up for a while. When I think it's warm enough to paint, I remove the kerosene heater, then paint. I bring all my painted parts inside to dry. It's a crude place to paint, but so far (knock on wood) I've had some pretty good results. One of these days, I am going to construct a paint booth in my build room, so I won't have to worry any more about painting in "the shed". Brinx: You know, your right! I never thought about that! It's almost Cletus's color!!!! I had a friend with that same paint job as "Snowman's" ride, and it was a beautiful looking ride for sure. Old albion: If it's any consolation, I never thought I was that good at painting myself untill people like you guys compliment it, then you know your doing well!! Thanks for all the compliments you guys!! Much appreciated for sure!! -

Thank's Jim for the kind words. I really like this kit and just bought another to make into a day cab! I'm going to work on that and the Chrome tanker for this one. That was my whole point in building this model, trying to make it not look like a snap kit. I'm glad you like the results. I'm sure yours will be as nice!! I'm looking forward to completing this, this weekend!! -
My 2nd project
rottin1 replied to rottin1's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I managed to get a little more work done on my Little Big truck. I've gotten the roof lights and horns glued on. I also stripped the chrome off the antennas, coiled some wire around them and then painted them Black. After the Black had dried, I dipped them in Red paint to represent the antenna caps.I used BMF around the windshield trim, bunk vents, door handles, hood and fender extensions. I mounted the air breather and lubrifiner. As for the back of the truck, I added full deckplates right from the back of the sleeper to the end of the frame. I also added some spot light mounts to the back of the bunk to kind of hide the spot where the bunk snaps into the truck.I put in a couple of pics of the side of the truck so you could see my fuel tanks and straps.I cut off one of the sleeper steps, because they where to long. I managed to blend in the seam on the tanks so you can see them anymore. All I have to finish is putting on the visor, bunk work lights, mount the bumper, mount the straight pipes and battery box mudflaps. Hope you enjoy! http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro.../MVC-011F-2.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro.../MVC-008F-2.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro.../MVC-010F-1.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro.../MVC-007F-2.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro.../MVC-009F-1.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro.../MVC-005F-2.jpg I also need to scratch build a light bar for the back of the truck. I should have this all done by this weekend. I'll also add a pic of the motor detail when finished. -

Ok I managed to get a few things done on my Pete snap truck. Like I said before I stripped the Chrome plating off the tanks because I wanted painted tanks instead. I finished the tanks by clearing then and then adding the straps. I wet sanded the front fenders and then cleared them. Then I glued the fenders in place.I also added a chrome strip between the fender and the hood. I want to wet sand the rear fenders and shoot them with clear again. I also painted the air breather Black and added straps to them also. I'll post pics of it tomorrow night. The bumper you see in these pics is the one I will be using on this truck. I did some shopping with Mo'aluminum! Thanks Jamie!! Thanks for looking! -
Revell Peterbilt Alaskan Hauler
rottin1 replied to Harvezter's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I say buy it . I bought 2 of these from Fantastic Plastics as well. I bought one to build as a regular twin screw and the other will be the tri axle version. As everyone else said, you get extra parts as well. I just wished someone would start making some scale 48ft and 53ft trailers!!! -
Welcome to MCM, big truck style!! Can't wait till you post pics of your Pete!!

Here's my 3rd build. I bought one of these Revell snap trucks just to see what it was all about. I kind of like this kit! The motor is a nice looking Cat with some nice detail to it. I chose for the color, Duplicolor Camel metallic with Black fenders. I added a set of resin full rear fender and painted them Black as well. I've taken the fuel tanks and stipped the Chrome off them. I'll be painting them Black as well with aluminum straps. I'm in the process of filling in the seam lines on the end of the tanks right now.I'll be making a texas bumper for it with bumper guide poles. No bumper lights in this one. In the pic you'll see the mocked up version of the bumper. I'll build the the one for this truck later. The one I'm building will be a touch shorter. I use that as a reference. I've also mocked up the stacks to see what it would look like. Those are the stacks I'll be using on this truck. I'll also be adding a visor, battery box mudflaps and deckplates. After I get this one finished, I have the Revell Chrome tanker to build to go with this tractor. Thanks for looking! Johnny

Here's my AMT Cattle Trailer I built to put behind my KW. I took and added 2 additonal sections in trailer to lengthen it to a scale 50ft. I scratch built the spread axle suspensions, using the chrome wheels from the old AMT Cabover Freightliner DD kit. The tires are from and old ERTL model. A couple little features like the mudflap weights and landing gear crank handle were added. http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...os/MVC-005F.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...os/MVC-007F.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...os/MVC-008F.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro.../MVC-002F-1.jpg

Hi folks! This is my first truck build after a 15+ years absence from the hobby. I took a AMT Kenworth w925 and stretched the frame. I used the bunk, headache rack, rear light bar, wheels and tires from a Revell 359. I made my own bumper w/ guide poles and bumper lights, cb attennas, straight pipes, rear fenders and mudflaps on the battery boxes. The air cleaners are aftermarket. The colors are Duplicolor Honda Bourduex Red and Black. All in all it took me roughly 12 months to build this. I built a AMT cattle trailer to put behind this. I'll take picks of the trailer then the two together. Thanks for looking! http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t121/ro...os/MVC-002F.jpg

Pete 359 &car hauler
rottin1 replied to bsoder's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Brian, EXCELLENT job on that! I agree with Anthony. This kit is a blast to build. I am working on the same exact one right now. I want to post pics of my build on it tonight if I can find the time. The motor in this kit is absolutley beautiful. Nicer detail on the motor than Revell 359 glue kit. With a little imagination this kit is a little beauty. Nice job brian. The car hauler and cars are a great addition to this ride!!!! -

Thanks Greg!! I hated to step out of this truck believe me! I had so much fun driving fo 23 years. With all the rules and regulations, any more it's not worth driving. That's just my 2 cents! Kudos to all that do drive for a living though!! God bless and safety to all! -
Excellent looking Kenworth!! I've been trying to score one of these for a while, but they go right out of sight on eBay!!

Uh oh! I can't figure out how to post the pic!! -
Here's a picture of my last truck I drove. This was my buddies truck that I drove for him for 5 years. I used to haul auto parts from Syracuse,NY to the metro Detroit area and back. I used to run through Canada to Port Huron, Mi. I used to get alot of compliments on this ride. It had a 550 Cat, backed with an 18 speed. She used to run right up there around 100-105. Not that I never did that!!! The truck has since been sold to another friend of ours and now pulls either a dump trailer and a garbage wagon. Someday, I am going to buils a replica of this in 1/25. Thanks for looking!
