Scale I Build

  1. I dug this up from last year, it needs a little TLC but its technically done...so I'm posting it here.
  2. So, after almost 10 years of celibacy, I have decided it was time to get back and build a few models. A first I was thinking about some 50's winged or finned cruisers, but then I came across Truck drivin' song by Weird Al and that song got inside my head so deep that I decided to build a truck instead. For some time I was thinking about AMT's Diamond Reo, but it turned out that there are no photo-etched details for this set yet, and to be honest, the factory grille in this set is really terrible. And since CMT ( http://www.liaznavzdy.cz/nedtrans/ctm.php ) confirmed plans to create and release the details in the future, I decided to wait for them and select a different truck instead. After seeing Auburn and Cord from Lindberg, I was very skeptical, but it turned out the mold was done by a different company (IMC), and it looked pretty reasonable to build. (Afterwards I also learned that the Auburn and Cord aren't Lindberg molds either, but you know, releasing THOSE kits under your name still tells something about you as well). So L-700 it was. Gathering information about this car is a little tricky, because more than 80% of Google finds show a built model instead of the original car, and engine details are nearly impossible to find. And if you find some, they are dirty and rusty as hell, that you actually can't even tell what the original engine color was. But I want to build a truck that just came out of the factory. I also still don't have the room to set out all the accessories (mostly pistol and compressor), so I started by cutting out the pieces, understanding where and how they fit, and some sanding. And I also glued some components together and drilled a hole into the exhaust. And got pretty upset by the fuel tanks, because they don't fit together - because the bottom part does not go straight up, it is slowly expanding to the sides. I will have to do much more sanding to get that part straight.
  3. Picked up the 09 Challenger special edition kit from Revell over the holidays and decided it needed something different. Was ging to drop in an old school Hemi from an old AMT kit and do a drag car, but decided instead to build up the modern Hemi with a scratch built centrifugal supercharger, shave off the 6.1L badging and add 7.0L badging to it. I kept the engine near stock, with the addition of fuel injectors and fuel rails. fuel lines will be added once I am satisfied with the supercharger and related ductwork. I will post images of that once it all comes together. body was clean overall and needed little smoothing before it was ready for paint. All the body pieces fit rather well. hood hinges need a little shaving down to let the hood rest in place properly, but that's typical. I did however spend some quaility time with the nose of the car. I like to open up the grill along with any other front end openings that typically just get painted in black. Typically one would just buy some photo-etched pieces for a new grill, but I decided instead to carefully shave the back side of the grill area and opened up the grill that way. It came out really nice and leaves the badges in place without having to reattach them later. After the paint sat for a week, I laid down some bare metal foil on the badges and painted the grill area semigloss black, rubbing the raised letters clean after the black set up a little. picture doesn't do it justice, it's hard to get good pictures with this dark color. The under body is left fairly mod free, with only addition of more foil to the exhaust pipes for that stainless exhaust look. I may weather the exhaust and underbody a little for that used look, but I am not decided on that yet. Going to have to either make some white stripes myself or see if any of the lesser challenger kits out there have what I'm looking for, since the red stripes supplied with the kit just arn't going to cut it. More to come as the build progresses, may be a while, I'm tend to let things sit between stages, as I ponder different ways to take the build.
  4. I'm new to this forum, i have previously been a member of the scaleautomag forum, i have enjoyed seeing the work of many talented modelers on this site and have decided to put a few of my builds here so you all can see a bit of my work, i will be posting my current in progress builds on this site soon and will be on this site often from now on. Here are a few of my 2012 builds:
  5. Hi buddies, here is my last built in 2011 - completed in November. My Dodge A-100 Delivery Van: It based on the old IMC-Kit and a Resinbody (i think you know it) from Jimmy Flintstone To this body i will say, that it fixed perfect! The quality was really good and so i had only cut a little bit on the front and backframe. Also the windows and Doorpanels fixed perfect. Well done Jimmy! That was a easy and funny built. Enought of words, here are some pics - enjoy it ...more coming up... ... ...for a look inside the van...
  6. All black vehicles. Black tint, trim, windows, lights and paint. Anyone ever do it? Let's see 'em!!
  7. A lot of you probably use or have used them hair brushes with the plastic bristles. Next time you do, take a look at them. They are basically a bunch of shifter handles with ball knobs on 'em. I've used them once or twice in die cast. Let's see how it works for plastic.
  8. The Cuda I bought after my house burned down when I was 18. It is currently under construction, it's about 3 years old. The Super Bee was an unpainted glue bomb I recently salvaged. Suprisingly it came apart clean with no breaks. It now has more detail than in the pictures. I'll get up new pics when they're done. Thanks for looking.
  9. The last today. One of my favorits in my collection, Also a kit from Revell what made a lot of fun to build. I built it in October last year and primary i bought it because of the very cool decals. But the decals were not to old, no, they broke, when i put it into the water. Irreparably. So i built it in Street legal version. Last week i took him again and made it lower to the groung. Looks better for me. Enough of words, here we go - Pictures please: ...
  10. Does someone make one to convert a '69 to a '70 Dodge Charger. If so how much? Thanks!
