Monty Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 I've been using these in my cars for years, so I would like to replicate the color etc in model form. What specific paints and techniques do you recommend? Any close-up pics of your work would be appreciated.
Lucas van H Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 For the round ones, I would use a couple of rubber rings in the appropriate size, and use some sort of thin paper for the filter part.
Exotics_Builder Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Haven't gotten to it yet, but I was looking at Testor British Crimson as a possible starting point for the color.
Jantrix Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 Try using a base white or silver and then brushing a thinned red wash over it. That might get close.
Foxer Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 (edited) I haven't got the color to my satisfaction yet, but there are various cast resin K&N filters around from aftermarket suppliers. Sorry I don't have a pile of links or specifically who .. but shouldn't take long to find one. And others here have better memories than me. Edited March 25, 2015 by Foxer

Many kits offer some kind of open element air cleaner, which is what I'll be using in most cases, so I don't need to source one of those. I was hoping someone on here had figured out a formula for obtaining that purplish-red color.
