pcm1977 Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 I purchased a junkyard lot off the internet and this engine came in it. I like how the engine looks and was considering fixing it up and detailing it to place in a car or truck. However I know nothing about it. I do recognize that it might be older because of the air filter on top, I also believe that it is a I6, but that is about all I can tell. I really don't want to put this engine in a VW when it is a Cummins or put it in an F-350 when it is meant for a model T. If anyone could also help fill me in on anything it might be missing to make it complete that would be much appreciated also. Thank you in advance for any help
chunkypeanutbutter Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 My guess is that it's a Jimmy-Six GM engine or a Mopar. Someone will know for sure.
Longbox55 Posted March 29, 2015 Posted March 29, 2015 That's the 3rd generation Chevrolet inline 6, 194, 230, 250 cubic inch displacement, from the Trumpeter '63 Chevy Nova kit.

Thanks Longbox, that is a great help. The only other question I have is that it appears to be missing part of the transmission and maybe something from the bottom? I really have no real desire to "restore" it back to original, but more or less just want to put it in something that it would look cool in...maybe even soup up the stock engine.
Longbox55 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 There is supposed to be a "pan" on the bottom of the transmission. The engine itself would be correct for just about any Chevrolet from '63-'76 on cars, and up to the mid '80s on trucks.

That's the engine my '79 Nova had in it.

That engine/trans is a bit on the crude side, having that "kinda close but squared off in a lot a areas" look, which is typical of most Trumpeter automotive kits. The trans from behind either the AMT '50 or '60 Chevy pickup kits would be a better looking choice/replacement, but might not be 100% correct for a passenger car application. Bill would know for sure.
espo Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 That's a nice little Chevy 6. The transmission doesn't look like a factory 3-speed manual, more like a "racing" type transmission with the tail housing missing. If you have another transmission you might want to use that. I also noticed it has a power steering pump, not something you often see on a six.
Longbox55 Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 It's supposed to be a Powerglide, sort of. The 3 speed from the '60 Chevy truck would be fine, as would the 3 speeds from pretty much any Chevrolet kit post '55. The V8 bellhousing would be more accurate to that engine than the one from the '60 truck, as that engine did use the V8 bolt pattern bellhousing.
pcm1977 Posted March 31, 2015 Author Posted March 31, 2015 Thanks all of you for your input, this is a lot of helpful information.

Though there are several variations, this is a pretty good generic representation of a Powerglide. Nothing at all like the model part.
