Question for anyone who's built one of these things before:

Is there any reason why I can't attach the front and rear panels to the body before paint and before installing the chassis/interior? I don't see anything that would cause interference, but I don't want to do it and then find an assembly problem later.

If I remember correctly the chassis is longer than the opening left once the front and rear valances are attached and at the front the frame is underneath the body color part. There might be some creative trimming that could be done on the rear of the chassis so you can slide the front in under the installed valance and then pop the rear in. You would probably have to trim the rear wheel wells down so they don't stretch the body so much going in and trim the back edge of the chassis behind the fuel tank, just play with it and see if the mods are worth it. And if you go this way be sure to strengthen the mounting points of the valances so the don't pop loose when shoehorning the chassis in.

I built one years ago but don't remember how I handled what you're talking about.

Another solution would be to attach the panels in question to the body with tape on the inside, paint, then remove them for assembly and reattach them later. I've done this on other builds.

If it's like the revell 70 boss 429 then you shouldn't nave any problems assembling before paint. It worked for me.

Ditto on that! I built mine that way as well, over 30 years ago.

My variation is that I install the front first. I usually leave the back off until final assembly, so there is some wiggle room.

I took this while I was building and you can see the chassis will fit with the tail panel on.
