Agreed. That is top notch. I picked up a new body for the '49. I wasn't happy with the chop and have decided to leave the top alone. More soon.

AMT kit, you know, the one with the single exhaust molded in. :o One of the members of a local club had a 1:1 '55 out back, not much left of a race car. I though a similar build with the chrome removed and mounting holes exposed would be cool. Lots of notes, where all the holes were and what size and here ya go. OK..."or it can be something that's been camping out on your shelf for 10 years, 95% complete."

Isn't that the definition of a "Hot Rod", Bill ? :P

When building a car with the trim removed and the mounting holes showing it pays to drill the holes through the trim before you shave it off.

Kind of obvious but something I only thought of doing the second time I tried it.

Way back when I built a decade of Chevys all finished in satin black - '50 to '59.

Well, the owner of this kit that I was originally building it for has arrived back in the family landscape, so I guess I have to finish it for him. So this will have to be stripped and repainted in the appropriate color. More soon on the '49 though.

Well, actually, I do have a Superbird that I think is a Johan... Already partially started it a while ago, but might as well finish it. The glass is broken, however...

Anyone have an instruction scan for said kit?

Still here ,....still workin' on 'em

Cheers

IMO, I think the Merc should stay that way. Maybe a little pin striping. It would look really cool.

This could be the motivation I need, this little thing has been sitting like this for over a decade. You can tell by the yellowing.

I have half a mind to make it a "in progress" build to tow behind my uhauler. Seems like the perfect mini truck show vehicles to me..

Plan is to finish the body work and finish it in primer, undo some of the hacking I did when I didn't know any better, abd build a new chassis. Might not even do a engine or glass.. We will see.

Growing up in Tucson AZ in the sixties we had a term for a dark hued primer that I don't hear much of anymore. "Hot Rod Primer" , maybe it was like "racers tape" (duct tape) or 200MPH tape. :oflat_black.jpg Not black, not gray, Hot Rod Primer. Nice work Al.

I've got a new body for the '49 Ford. I'm going to throw some putty tonight and do some clean up. I plan for a flat burgundy primer paint job.
