Harry P. Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Remember, don't post any hints or answers here. PM me with year, make, and model. The answer: 1958 Opel Kapitän.
Harry P. Posted May 11, 2015 Author Posted May 11, 2015 Come on, John... keep trying. You can do it...
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Too easy. Kid I went to high school with had one.
otherunicorn Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I had reason to search for a similar car yesterday, for my own interest. Of course, I found this one several times - before this Auto ID started!
Harry P. Posted May 13, 2015 Author Posted May 13, 2015 Too easy. I could make this quiz a lot harder.

chunkypeanutbutter Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 Too easy. Kid I went to high school with had one. I was completely stumped on this. I thought it was kinda German-y looking, but couldn't place it. When I saw this comment, "Opel Rekord" immediately sprang into my head. A short trek from there and I arrived at Opel Kapitan.
Sixties Sam Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 A friend of mine had a 1960 Opel Kadett when we were in college at Penn State, circa 1970. We had a snowstorm one day, and he opened the trunk, and I sat in the trunk with my feet hanging over the bumper to get out of an unplowed parking lot! Good times! Sam
matthijsgrit Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 I never realized these were in the US as well...
Ace-Garageguy Posted May 16, 2015 Posted May 16, 2015 (edited) I never realized these were in the US as well... I don't think they were officially imported, but my friends father was Air Force, and brought the car back from Germany. It was pretty easy to bring in cars in those days of pre-emissions and crash BS. Living close to an AF base, I saw a lot of unusual (for the US at the time) European cars. Another kid's mom drove a Borgward Isabella cabrio, and somebody had a Humber Super Snipe too. Edited May 16, 2015 by Ace-Garageguy
