kelson Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Since my Miata was so close to being done,i decided to start this kit a couple days ago,it's been in my stash at least 20 years. The plan is to paint it Chrysler Electric Blue, not a stock color, but I think it will look good.
kelson Posted May 20, 2015 Author Posted May 20, 2015 So after scribing the body lines deeper,i then used Vallejo Model Wash and then masked off the body trim and put on a couple coats of primer, then 5 coats of the Electric blue paint. It looks dull cause there is no clearcoat on it yet.
935k3 Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Looking nice, I have built the racing version. They were a really nice looking wagon.
kelson Posted May 20, 2015 Author Posted May 20, 2015 I painted the chassis body color as well, the engine block, the brakes and the front suspension were painted with Plasti-kote Cast Aluminum, but still need more detail painting. The rear suspension was painted Tamiya Gloss Aluminum.
kelson Posted May 20, 2015 Author Posted May 20, 2015 The shocks and a couple under chassis parts were painted with Tamiya semi-gloss black and guards red,I should have some more updates in the next couple days
kelson Posted May 20, 2015 Author Posted May 20, 2015 Thanks 935K3,i think this kit sat in my stash so long is,i just couldn't find a color i liked, then i came across the electric blue paint and had a AHA moment!
chunkypeanutbutter Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Ooh! Been waiting to see a build of this Volvo kit!
Bumblebi Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Cool to see this kit being built! I have both the sedan and the wagon in race trim, and this would be awesome to have along them, too bad they are a bit pricey.
superbike-shaun Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Not too off topic, can I ask how much? I can't find anywhere? Superbike-shaun
kelson Posted May 20, 2015 Author Posted May 20, 2015 Shaun,I bought this kit 20 years ago and I paid $39.55,i have seen the wagon pop up on Ebay, but like Bumblebi said they are very pricey now.
kelson Posted May 26, 2015 Author Posted May 26, 2015 Hi,back with just a small update, the chassis has all the suspension parts added,it all goes together really nice!although it doesn't show to well I added a decal to the oil filter to add a little detail.
Casey Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 I've used that color before, too, and it always looks great. Put it on a wagon and you've got yourself a doubly great combination.
kelson Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 Hello again, thanks for the compliments guys!back with more updates:flocked the interior with less than good results ,think i'll be redoing this one.Luckily i used white glue so stripping it in hot water should work.
kelson Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 The interior is pretty much done now,i painted the dash a combo of semi gloss black/gunship gray, the decals for being 20 years old held up well,i just need to detail paint the radio/air conditioner dials on this one.
kelson Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 Here are some pictures of the interior, the rear cargo area was painted with a primer/sealer gray, while the seats were painted with a hot rod grey primer, the top edge of the back seat was left in the grey plastic it was molded in,i thought it gave it more contrast.I used a wash for the vents and cargo handles. The 3rd brake light was Bmf and painted with a couple coats of clear red paint.
kelson Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 A couple pictures of the doors and the front seats and the console. The doors were painted in the combo of hot rod grey primer/gray primer sealer and a couple light coats of semi gloss clear and the door inserts were left in the molded grey plastic. The front seats were painted in hot rod grey primer and given a couple light coats of semi gloss clear. The console was painted gunship gray/semi gloss black and needs a little color detailing the breakup all that black.
kelson Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 Was finally able to get some pearl coats on the body, but a couple fuzzy's got on the roof and hood ,but i'll sand them out with a 1500 grit sandpaper and recoat.Camera isn't quite picking up the shine, but it does look nice!
Twokidsnosleep Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Nice clean build so far You are doing a great job!!!
