1972coronet Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 I am trying to find a Stinger hood for the Revell "COPO" Nova , as I am replicating a Dana Chevrolet version of an L78/L89 396 SS model. Does the Yenko version of this kit include the Stinger ? If so, then I will inquire about purchasing a hood directly from Revell . If Revell does not offer the hood , then who does ? Thanks for your replies and links.
Casey Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 I am trying to find a Stinger hood for the Revell "COPO" Nova Does the Yenko version of this kit include the Stinger? No, just the cowl induction hood. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=97789&hl=stinger#entry1342673
1972coronet Posted June 2, 2015 Author Posted June 2, 2015 So,even their "Yenko" replica has the incorrect SS hood... Arrrg!!http://www.hotrod.com/cars/featured/1312-1969-chevrolet-nova-ss396-l78-dana-light-heavyweight/ This is the Dana I'm going to replicate (sans the vinyl top.)
Mike Chernecki Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 So,even their "Yenko" replica has the incorrect SS hood... Arrrg!!http://www.hotrod.com/cars/featured/1312-1969-chevrolet-nova-ss396-l78-dana-light-heavyweight/ This is the Dana I'm going to replicate (sans the vinyl top.) The Yenko Nova originally came with the stock SS hood, so the kit is correct. The Baldwin Motion cars had the Stinger type hood.
Rob Hall Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 (edited) I got a stinger hood from a resin caster. Can't recall who though. Just to clarify--by Stinger, you mean the '67 Corvette 427 style hood (scoop and spear)...like this: Edited June 2, 2015 by Rob Hall
freakshow12 Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I have one too. It needs a bit of work but if you want it...
1972coronet Posted June 2, 2015 Author Posted June 2, 2015 @MIKE: I have never seen a Motion-prepped Nova;I can only guess that Joel employed an L88 hood. @ROB: That's exactly the hood I'm referencing! Such a gorgeous piece. Dana's alignment with Don Yenko, Bill Thomas, et al., is enshrouded in mystery; little info available about Dana of South Gate... @FRED : I'm assuming that you have a resin hood ?
Snake45 Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I've seen photos of at least one '68 or '69 Motion Nova with the '67 Stinger hood. I don't recall ever seeing one with the L88 hood but I suppose it's possible. Remember, the Baldwin-Motion cars were complete custom cars, built however the customer wanted them. The '67 Stinger-type hoods were used as early as '67 (on Camaros) by several of the "Superchevy" dealers--Dana, Bill Thomas, Nickey, etc. Someone was apparently making that hood in fiberglass--or at least the stinger itself was available in 'glass. (I remember seeing it in JC Whitney catalogs in both bolt-on and bond-on form.) Someone in the (model) aftermarket makes a BUNCH of stinger hoods for various Chevy kits. I don't remember who, sorry. Maybe someone else has that information.
Rob Hall Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 (edited) Check eBay...I'm pretty sure I got the one I have from an eBay seller, but it's been 3-4 years. Lots of resin hoods pass through there.. Edited June 2, 2015 by Rob Hall
freakshow12 Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Yes I do have one. I just gotta find it! I will track it down and snap some pics. If you want it you can have it
Mark Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 A&A Fiberglass manufactured the "stinger" hoods that were used on the Novas. Besides Motion, Dana, and Bill Thomas, Dickie Harrell prepared a few Novas with that hood. I made one years ago for the AMT kit, but it doesn't come close to fitting the Revell kit.
Casey Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 John, I swear Drag City Casting made this hood, too, so you may want to try sending Ed an e-mail.
1972coronet Posted June 5, 2015 Author Posted June 5, 2015 Thanks all for your replies. After digging around I found some pics of a few MOTION Nova's with the Stinger, one of which was in Martyn Schorr’s "Tales of a Muscle Car Builder..." book. I'll have to check Drag City out...
