Greg Myers Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 Originally, (back in the day) they were called "Recognition stripes" * used by many different racing teams, especially those with more than one entry, to identify certain cars on their team. "I'm sure it came from the factory that started it, Mopar. " must of missed that one somewhere. * Jon, I hadn't heard "Pit Stripes" But that very well may be.
Greg Myers Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 also , from Joe on the Shelby Forums : "The fender stripes are known as FIA stripes. They were first used on a Cobra (CSX2128) at the 1963 Sebring FIA race. The stripes were painted on 2128 to distinguish it form the other team Cobras (all black painted body's) that were racing. The color chosen for 2128 was yellow. To answer your question; yes it started with the race cars."
Greg Myers Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 (edited) Jaguar had a style all their own. No "Back in the Day" here , Mike, from a site called "Old Skool Racin'" Edited June 3, 2015 by Greg Myers
Tonioseven Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 I don't get it either. I guess everyone got bored with the peel and stick port holes? Those are awful!! Most of the cars I see them on aren't even BUICKS!!!
Tonioseven Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Those Jaguars are beautiful cars but the #6 car reminds me of this...
JTalmage Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 I find that no stickers/graphics on the body is even better. I'm not even really a fan of pinstripes. All of my cars are either 1 single color or two toned at the bottom. Well.. unless you count my truck.... which has a different colored truck cap lol
Tom Geiger Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Those are awful!! Most of the cars I see them on aren't even BUICKS!!! and the funny thing is that my Buick doesn't have them!

Greg Myers Posted June 3, 2015 Author Posted June 3, 2015 "and the funny thing is that my Buick doesn't have them! " on ebay right now.
Danno Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 and the funny thing is that my Buick doesn't have them! A Buick with no portholes? What's this world coming to??
Jon Haigwood Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 "Back in the Day" whenever we spotted a "4 Hole" Buick we would shout "4-holer" and punch our buddy in the arm. Now I guess they do "Slug-a-Bug"

Quick GMC Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 The C6 Vette with the front fender stripe is the Ron Fellows edition, comes from the factory that way. http://www.supercars.net/Pics?viewCarPic=y&source=carGal&carID=3729&pgID=1&pID=817436
Greg Myers Posted June 4, 2015 Author Posted June 4, 2015 That's the point. Just about every factory is putting out something with the pit stripes, fender stripes, what ever they're called.

Jantrix Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 That's the point. Just about every factory is putting out something with the pit stripes, fender stripes, what ever they're called. I've no problem with the stripes and I like the look, but they need to be on both sides.
